<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Robert Swift caught the pass mid-lane on the left block on what turned out to be the final play of the scrimmage last Friday. Swift made his favorite move - a turnaround jumper over his right shoulder. As Swift turned, he suddenly realized that he was going to have change the arc of his shot. He put a deeper contour in his back, but there was nothing he could do to get the ball over the outstretched reach of Mouhamed Sene. The final play of the scrimmage exemplified what was strikingly obvious throughout; Sene is long, amazingly long, almost inconceivably long. After the game broke up, I chatted with Swift and Noel Felix. Both had huge, wide open, stunned eyes as they said, "He is long, the longest I have played." "No one affects that shot except Sene," added Swift. Throughout the scrimmage, which included Swift, Felix, Nick Collison, Denham Brown, Yotam Halperin and Patch Morlende, Sene's strengths made it obvious why the Sonics drafted him with the 10th pick. On one play, Halperin got free on a gorgeous backdoor cut and rose up on the right side for what seemed to be an uncontested layup until Sene came from the left side to send the shot against the green pads on The Furtado Center's wall. Sene?s most impressive play of the day was when he was defending a pick-and-roll on the left wing. The ballhandler went from the wing to the baseline off a Swift pick. Sene slid down and cut off the path of the dribbler and, when the pass went back to Swift, he was able to recover in time to eliminate any driving angles for Swift. That is big-time agility for a big man. Both his length and his surprising quickness made the play possible. Sene?s length is so awe-striking it is hard to notice anything else. Couple his length with his quickness and it makes him seem even longer. He was surprisingly quick going from block to block defensively. On more than on occasion he was waiting for a rebound on one side of the rim, but was able to corral it on the other side. </div> http://www.nba.com/sonics/news/locked_jul06.html
lol @ "awe-striking" Saer sounds pretty good, though. Seems like all he'll need to play at least spot minutes is some strength and experience.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"No one affects that shot except Sene," added Swift.</div> Yep because Swifty's turnaround over his right shoulder has often been called unblockable along with McHale's fadeaway and Kareem's sky hook Seriously though, he's sounding promising.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Roland Hood:</div><div class="quote_post">Yep because Swifty's turnaround over his right shoulder has often been called unblockable along with McHale's fadeaway and Kareem's sky hook </div> Wanna fight about it?
Did you guys watch some footage of him on FSN Live last night? It wasn't anything special...just showed some rebounding and blocks. Oh and he made a few jumpers from about 15ft along the baseline. It's sort of like Petro during last years summer league...fouls a lot and is just raw. Upside is huge though...
Yeah Locke wrote that he fouls a lot and pretty much everytime he put the ball on the floor it was a turnover. Still, his defensive potential is scary.
When it is all said and done I believe that Sene will be the best big man to come out of this draft. In my opinion he is already better than Patrick O'Bryant--who I don't believe would last in the NBA w/o a guaranteed contract--and I think that in time he could develop to be better than an overhyped (and somewhat one dimensional) LaMarcus Aldridge and a solid but not spectacular Shelden Williams. This kid is an unbelievable shot blocker and from what I'm hearing he doesn't have any punk in his heart. What most Africans lack in skill they make up in desire. In my experience African athletes are rarely timid and the first and only time I saw Sene play (Nike Hoop Summit) he challenged every shot and tried to make himself as assertive as he could offensively. I'm very excited about our roster for next season. Barring significant injury (or a series of brain farts from Bob Hill) I predict that we could have a 47+ win season. Wilcox will be back and I hope that he plays with a chip on his shoulder knowing that he was low balled by Sund and company. If I was Rick Sund I would offer him a 5 year 38-40 million dollar deal just so he won't sign a qualifying offer but I remain optimistic that the deal will get done eventually. Can't wait for the Rocky Mountain Review.
i really wanted sene in minny, and now it looks like he is going to be a really good center, at least servicable anyway.
Gelabale is around 6'8 I think, while Sene is bang on 7'0. Bear in mind Gelabale's hair adds another 2-3 inches and Sene's head is tilted. Check out the arms though, monsterous.
