Suns and Raptors Interested in Salmons

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While the Sixers and Suns are reportedly discussing a sign and trade for guard John Salmons, <font color=""Red"">the Raptors are looking at acquiring the Philadelphia guard </font>to replace Mike James, who has agreed to terms with the Timberwolves.

Salmons, according to the sources, is weighing offers between the Raptors and Phoenix Suns and is expected to decide which team to sign with today when the NBA's moratorium on signings is lifted.

It's thought the Suns are offering a first-year salary of about $3.7 million (all figures U.S.) ? all they can offer under the league's arcane salary cap rules ? while Toronto, who are desperate to sign Salmons according to sources, can offer a much greater financial package to the 26-year-old guard.

However, the Suns are seen as a much more attractive playing situation, having advanced to the Western Conference finals in each of the last two seasons; the rebuilding Raptors may have a more promising future today than they've had in years but they've also missed the playoffs in each of the last four seasons.</div>

If we let Salmons to the Suns I guarantee he will have a break out year just like Boris Diaw did, and we will be kicking ourselves in the a** for letting him go. Salmons received a lot of criticism last year for taking shots he was not suppose to take down the stretch, and thinking he was a star. However, to be honest with you he was one of the few people out there who actually looked to score, and did not just stand around watching AI. We need more people like that.

Everyone who is big with ball handling skills can flourish in the Suns system. This is no exception with Salmons. If he goes to play for the Suns he will have a breakout year. He would get playing time because he is versatile and can play three positions.

We should keep Salmons. He's versatile and it shouldn't be hard for him to find some time off the bench this season. It might be hard to believe but I want Carney coming off the bench early in the season and give Willie or Salmons a shot to play the two. Carney worked off the bench in Memphis and I see no reason why he can't on this level.

It looks like this trade is going to happen. I wish the best for Salmons though, but I think he definitely needs a change of scenery. I don't really like what we are getting for him though, a 2nd round pick and a trade exception.

Yeah, same here. I would have liked a player in return, maybe another shooter? Anyways, a 2nd round pick has a high chance of being a bust, and we all know Billy King isn't going to use the trade exception. We might as well just keep him and let him come off the bench.
