Anthony and team officials refused to comment. Anthony is set to sign an $80 million, five-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Police said Tyler Brandon Smith, who identified himself as Anthony's friend and roommate, was pulled over late Sunday in this small town 20 miles northeast of Denver and cited for marijuana possession and three traffic infractions.

Police said Smith was driving the 2005 Dodge Magnum, which was registered to Anthony's company, Melo Enterprises. Police said two other men were in the car, but they were not cited and their names were not released.</div>

Can we ever go one off-season without a headline that gets Melo in trouble?

Anybody want to tell what Anthony did wrong here? How is this any different when the same thing happened to Iverson a year ago?

Didn't Michael Irvin have a similar incident when the police found a crack pipe in his car? This doesnt mean anything, even if its his stuff he can just say its one of his boys' and everyone will forget about it in a week.

Yeah, except Irvin was in the car. Melo wasn't even there.

lol, did the guys that said Carmelo did something wrong read the article? He wasn't in the car, it was his friend. That doesn't really mean it's his or his friends. But, I'm guessing it's his friends. But, if you know your friend does that, don't let him drive your car that's registered to you.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hours before Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was expected to sign a contract extension, he had to defend his judgment for loaning his car to a friend who was pulled over and cited for marijuana possession.

Tyler Brandon Smith was stopped for traffic violations late Sunday and given a summons for misdemeanor marijuana possession. Police said Smith was driving a 2005 Dodge Magnum registered to Anthony's company, Melo Enterprises.

"I cursed him out a little bit," Anthony said as kids from his basketball camp scurried through drills in the background. "He understands. He almost broke down apologizing."

Smith had no listed phone number and could not be reached for comment.

Anthony's agent, Calvin Andrews, said he hopes the incident won't cloud what "should've been one of the happiest days of his life."

"For the last two years the guy has been a rock-solid citizen, unbelievable on the court, doing everything he needs to do," said Andrews, who said the two sides were still ironing out some of the nuances of the contract deal Wednesday afternoon.</div>

And how is that? The car was only registered to him. He wasn't in it, it wasn't his weed. Have your parents, or you ever let anybody use your car? Get over it man, Carmelo did nothing wrong here.
