<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dwyane Wade could be following LeBron James' lead.

Wade, who reportedly agreed to a five-year, $80 million max extension with the Miami Heat last week, is instead expected to sign a three-year deal with a player option for a fourth season, ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported Tuesday.

Earlier this week, sources told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith that James had agreed to a three-year extension worth approximately $60 million, with a player option for a fourth season (rather than what was reported earlier as James being able to opt out of a four-year deal).

On Monday, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported that Carmelo Anthony was also considering signing a contract extension with the Denver Nuggets similar to the deal James intends to sign with Cleveland.

Wade is under contract for next season with the Heat, who will try to defend their first NBA championship. Wade has repeatedly said he wants to stay in Miami. Other than coach Pat Riley saying that getting Wade to agree to an extension is Miami's top offseason priority, the team has not commented on the negotiation process.

Wade was the fifth pick in the 2003 draft, and his rise to stardom was quick. He averaged a career-best 27.2 points during the regular season, making 49.5 percent of his shots, plus averaging 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds.

In the playoffs, he was even better, averaging 28.4 points -- and 34.7 in the NBA Finals, when he led the Heat past the Dallas Mavericks in six games.</div>

Weird, I don't quite understand this move, I guess it makes it a lot more flexible for Wade in case he wants to leave Miami after Shaq is done for, I don't see why he would want to...

Wade did once say "I want to be a Heat player for life"

Im kind of shocked that Wade did this (if its true) but I truly believe Wade will still decide to stay, he has shown his love for this city numerous times and I can't picture Wade anywhere else..

I think he'll stay, but it's most likely just for more money.

That is true but its more about money than anything. If he opts out after the third year then he can sign a max contract for up to 150 million dollars (thats an estimate that I've heard) instead of the 80 million he can make if he signed a max contract now.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI (AP) -- Dwyane Wade may continue wearing a Miami uniform through the 2010-11 season, and if all goes according to his plan, he'll stay with the Heat even longer.

Wade signed a long-awaited contract extension on Wednesday. The deal is for three seasons, beginning in 2007-08, and has a player option for a fourth year -- much like the one agreed to earlier Wednesday by LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The exact value of Wade's contract will not be known until the next salary cap is set in July 2007, but based on some cap projections, it could be worth in the $63 million range.

"We tried to figure out what would be best for the Wade family, the Wade name and actually for the Miami Heat also," Wade said. "So I'm excited. I got an opportunity once again to sign back with the Heat, the team that drafted me, and I'm looking forward to a bright future."

Wade -- the MVP of this year's NBA finals -- will make $3.84 million next season, when Miami will defend its championship. He'll make considerably more in 2007-08, when he'll be eligible to earn a base salary of 25 percent of the league's salary cap. </div>

So how many players out of the 2003 draft class do you think will follow this trend?

    No Worries

Sorry, I don't have a link, but heres what Wade said in the paper this morning:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I'm a Heat man," "I was drafted by the Heat, there have been alot of moments with Miami that I love.

"I'm looking forward to when I retire, still being a Heat, This is not me looking to get out of Miami, theres no reason for me to look to get out of Miami. I'm a Heat and I'm going to continue to be a Heat as long as they want me."</div>

    Thank God. [IMG]
