I think I might have made an inference that we had Hall of Fame center Nate Thurmond in '75. That was wrong. He was replaced by Clifford Ray, I believe. We still must have had one hell of a backcourt and a decent set of bigs, though. Rick Barry pretty much willed the warriors to a championship with his unstoppable scoring, passing ability, and 90% underhanded free throws. It's bad we couldn't even win one with two of the most gifted centers in the league (Wilt Chamberlain and Nate Thurmond). WTF? I think we also traded away a guy named Robert Parish. Warriors historians are definitely welcome to correct me if I blow something. It's hard to find basketball history websites...
Yep, We traded Parrish in 1980. The Deal was Robert Parish & a #3 first round draft pick to Boston for the #1 & #13. Parish was already an awesome center and the #3 pick that Boston got was used to draft Kevin McHale. With that #1 overall pick, The Golden State drafted (drumroll please) Joe Barely Cares! I still call this the worst trade in NBA history.
The Warriors website has a pretty comprehensive history of the team in their media guide. Here's the link.
