<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Several NBA teams have called the Orlando Magic about acquiring point guard Travis Diener, who has a make-good contract with the club for next season. The second year of Diener's deal is only partially guaranteed. "There's been some interest," Magic General Manager Otis Smith said. Diener said he has heard the same through the NBA grapevine. He served as Orlando's third point guard last season as a rookie and will be back in that role behind Jameer Nelson and Carlos Arroyo if he makes the team. Diener has "made it tough on us," said Smith, with his stellar summer-league play. Diener, 6 feet 1 and 175 pounds, has averaged 15.6 points and seven assists per game while committing just two turnovers in three games. After playing spot minutes as a rookie, he said he has been playing freer. "The way I played in college [at Marquette]," Diener said. "I just didn't play that way last year. I got down on myself. I got nothing to worry about. I can't put pressure on myself. You play with that deer-in-the-headlights look, and coaches recognize that." Diener said he wants to remain with the Magic, but added, "I understand the business of basketball." </div> What'cha think, keep him or not?
With Jameer, Arroyo, and Dooling ahead of him on the depth chart, I say trade him away. It would be the best situation for both parties. He isn't going to get any time buried behind all those talented point guards so we should at least see what we can get for him.
He's a good 3 point shooter, but like Swish said too many before him. Its unlikely he'll see light unless some injuries start happening
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">He's a good 3 point shooter.</div> Yup and a three point shooter isn't a need right now after drafting Redick.

We still need more guys that can hit the 3. 3 pointers is still our weakness.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Swish15:</div><div class="quote_post">So are you saying we should hold onto Diener?</div> No, we should get rid of him, since he likely will never play for us. I just didn't like your explanation of "We got JJ for 3 pointers so we don't need Diener anymore".
I think it all depends on Arroyo, I know he wants to be a starter in this league and he will get his chance if he plays like he played last year. So if he plans on leaving then I say keep Diener but if he will accept being a backup then trade him. (Nobody will convince me that Dooling is a point Guard)
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheHighness:</div><div class="quote_post">I think it all depends on Arroyo, I know he wants to be a starter in this league and he will get his chance if he plays like he played last year.</div> As long as Jameer is here and healthy, he will be our starting point guard.
Thats what I mean, Arroyo may not want to play behind Jammer for the rest of his carreer and he is IMO a starting PG on alot of teams right now.
The Magic are set at the point guard spot with Jameer Nelson and Carlos Arroyo. If they want, they could also add Jerry Mcnamera to the roster as the third string point guard relatively cheap since he would not command any more than the minimum. Diener deserves an opportunity to play he has light it up all summer league; he went for 34 I believe against us today. He has solid point guard skills he just needs an opportunity.
We are loaded with a 3 headed monster including Dolling, Arroy, and Nelson. I love Diener, but now we signed Mcnamerra, we literally have no ROOM. So as much as i'd hate to see himn leave, at least wed get something outta him. I bet a draft pick
