Toronto Accquires Salmons In Sign & Trade

Don't have the link yet (it's not on espn.com) but Rogers Sportsnet JUST confirmed that the Raptors accquired him in a sign and trade from Philly. Will confirm and update when the link is up.

    Edit:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
The Raptors have worked out a sign-and-trade deal with the Phildelaphia 76ers for guard-forward John Salmons, the Philadelphia Daily News reported Thursday.

The 76ers will receive a second-round draft pick and a $2 million US trade exception.
Salmons, 26, has reportedly agreed to terms on a $23-million, five-year deal with the Raptors.
    </div>

4.6 million a year. Not too bad of a deal. I know he'll help the team out so I don't mind at all. Some of you guys are extremely stingy. You don't get role players for whatever money you want now. Not only does he build the strength of our bench, he contributes furthermore to BC's vision of a balanced Raptors roster.

I don't know why so many of you are so pessimistic, I have loved every single one of BC's move so far, no matter how much of a gamble they have seemed. Give the man a break and let this team come into fruition. It's not like he disarmed a dynasty team (ala 2004 Lakers) and created a completely new team. He disarmed a losing team and armed it with a bunch of role players that can help us win and most importantly, provide sufficient support for Bosh. On top of that, we have ourselves a pass first point guard in TJ Ford. The future looks bright for Toronto. And I haven't even mentioned the development of Andrea yet.

No, it cut to commericial right after. They said they'd update after talking about MLB and Michelle Wie [IMG] so I thought it'd be up on espn.com but it's not so far. They'll probably announce it soon though.

I like this signing. If he can improve his shot selection, he'll be a solid player.

i prefer eddie house. this move might be a signal of things to come- u have five or seven guys who play the same position now: parker, mo. pete. salmons, joey g, pj tucker, (bargnani), (garbosa)

I don't think Colangelo is very happy or confident in Joey Graham right now...he kinda called him out before summer league started. Just gives us depth and options....I see this team becoming more and more like Phoenix's... two lines of interchangable pieces, that is quick and competant at shooting/handling the ball, and will run no matter who is on the floor...just stay back Rasho...

honestly i've never been impressed with salmons game. over the years he's had ample opportunity cause ai has been injured often over the years and salmons has had to fill in. he hasn't done anything to separate himself from the rest of the bunch.

I really don't understand why they got Salmons for.. I mean lets say our lineup goes like this

    Rasho/Humphries/Garbarosa <-- doesn't have to play C just gets the C minutes
    Bosh/Bargnani/Garbarosa
    Parker/Graham/PJ Tucker/Garbarosa? Salmons?
    Mo Pete/Graham/Salmons??
    TJ Ford/Calderon..

I'm pretty sure Sam would play Calderon and Ford on the same time too at times.. but i don't really see a lot of minutes given to Salmons to see why they acquired, i believe Raps could of added an extra 3 million we still had to get a player like Bonzi Wells or a Al Harrington..

I'm pretty sure Garbajosa is strictly a PF. Joey Graham isn't quick enough to play SG. Salmonds will be the backup for Mo Pete and should get 15-25 MPG. I think it will look something like this:

    PG - Ford/Calderon
    SG - Mo Pete/Salmons
    SF - Parker/Graham/Bargnani/Tucker
    PF - Bosh/Garbarosa/Bargnani/Slokar
    C - Rasho/Humphries

EDIT: Forgot about Bargnani, and now Slokar.

I think Garbarosa is somewhat like Donyell Marshall from what i see in the scouting and what people say about him. I think he has the range and the "height" to play there too not to sure about quickness but he does have the toughness. Plus Mo Pete was getting like 38 minutes a game last season.. but whatever.. We will just have to wait and see.

Still doesn't prove the fact that Raps could of gotten someone more proven even though they have a little baggage with them.

LOL, Bobcats, you completely forgot about Bargnani, cuz he will play C/PF/SF minutes and Graham will get SG minutes too, doesn't mean he will play SG.. a player like Parker or Mo Pete could play there with Graham on the floor too..

    Where's the rook?

But that lineup doesn't look too shabby, aside from a somewhat weak looking 2nd unit of course.

Quote from TSN. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Spanish forward Jorge Garbajosa is expected to join the team over the next couple of days, and Colangelo said he'll likely bring in Slovenian forward Uros Slokar. The second-round pick in 2005 will replace Pape Sow, who is out indefinitely after fracturing a vertebrae in his neck. </div>

So there's where the news of Slokar coming over but damn.. thats a lot of international players. Now all he has to do is bring an asian player.. then they'd have a global team.

Doesn't Salmons paly a bit of the point?

My one beef is it seems the raps cap space is getting eaten up by marginal players who defintly won't bring a championship to Toronto. I mean Salmons, A. parker and Garjbosa all avg. 4. mil or more a year. I just know we are going to have to re-sing t.j ford and I was really hoping for us to sign a stud from the 07 FA class.

Well.. i say give them 2 seasons together before they really make a splash in the NBA/playoffs. With Toronto hopefully getting top pick in 07 draft class which is said to be as strong as the 03/96 etc classes.. Then hopefully they really show how much of a team they are.

I always thought Salmons had pretty good tools and overall skills to be an above average player. I see him as a mini Joe Johnson kinda with his ability to play the 1-2-3. If he can combine fundamentals with his skills here and Toronto to go with consistent PT. Too bad theres no really here to really teach him. Maybe Sam...maybe...or Anthony Parker can help him.

i knew somebody was going to throw out the joe johnson comparison but the difference is that joe johnson is a lot more atheltic and a much better shooter. salmons has to rely on basket ball smarts a lot more than joe johnson who can elevate above a defender and shoot.

HAHAHAHAHAH! I agree, I think that Japanese guard who played for the Suns should come to Toronto.

As for the Salmons deal, it doesn't really bother me much because it's only a filler...but I was really hoping we could have grabbed someone like Al Harrington or Jared Jeffries. I really hope B.C. doesn't sign Eddie House- he is undersized and we already have Andre Barrett. I'm sure B.C. is far from being done and I hope he can bring an impact player sometime before November.

Barett was waived already. I don't think you have to worry about us signing House, I don't think we have any money left.
