[imgl]http://realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Mourning_Alonzo_mia.jpg[/imgl]AP - Alonzo Mourning waited 13 years to win his first NBA championship. Now, the Miami Heat center wants to see what defending a title is like.

Mourning said late Saturday that he intends to return to the Heat next season.

There are still some contract details to be worked out. Mourning has had interest in recent days from several other teams, including the Spurs, but he rebuked that offer and said if he was going to play anywhere, it would be in Miami.</div> Source

    Yes!!! ....[IMG]

I really hope Zo comes back..we are gonna need a big defensive presence like Zo next season. Not only does Zo bring that heart and energy to this team but he is just a beast on defense and can swat anybody in the league, he was huge in our title run this year, and hopefully he can be a big part of our run next season.

This is great news. We get the best backup center in the league back and GP says he wants to come abck as well. Looks like we may be making another run for a title.

I hope he has some energy left in him. With Earl Barron tearing it up, who do you guys think that Pat Riley would play more? I love Zo and hope we see him as often as possible.

I still think Zo should get more playing time, Earl will get his chance to shine, but for now we should take advantage that we have Zo on our roster.

    GO HEAAT!!!!!

More time for Zo means less for Shaq. Better not take Shaq for granted. [IMG] It's still Shaq's team.

Shaq gets his playing time, thats not a problem. Plus Shaq needs his rests, we're just saying that Zo is the perfect man to back him up and he can help contribute alot everytime hes on the floor. No one every mentioned starting Zo over Shaq...

Zo is doing just fine in Miami, he has stayed loyal and he has been great for us. The last thing he will do is screw us over, he might have done that to NJ, and Toronto, but definitely not Miami.

Mourning would if he was younger and the team was losing.

Ever since he was diagnosed, Alonzo will betray anyone to win, including the Heat back in 2002. However, he is probably too old to betray anyone again, so if the Heat suck he'll just retire during, or, at the end of the season.

I'm a bit(...or very) bitter about Zo and the TO incident, and while I do think he betrayed Miami in 2002, that move was when 'Zo didn't think he had much in him, and was basically business. What he did after that everyone knows.

But hit ss moves ultimately shows who Zo is and what he is about. a person who loves Miami. I don't think he'll get alot of minutes, but he'll get very valuable and sginificant minutes.

Oh the Spurs....that team that got knocked out second round.[IMG] I aint trying to be mean, but common, this isn't directed only to TimmyDMVP; this thread is about Zo returning to Miami...absolutely nothing to do with the Spurs, or about Zo being a traitor.

I think Zo is going to get about 20 minutes a game this year, just like last season. Im just glad hes back, hes the perfect guy to back up Shaq, and hes one of the best blockers of all time. Here are his stats from last season:

    Points: 7.8
    Rebounds: 6
    Blocks: 3

He was a major part of our team last season, and I expect him to be just as effective next year.

    Zo Celebrates Decision

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI (AP) -- More money couldn't lure Alonzo Mourning away from Miami. It was the fans who convinced him to delay retirement and play one more season with the Heat.

The 36-year-old center said Sunday he declined high-paying offers from other teams, including the San Antonio Spurs, to help the Miami Heat defend their NBA championship.

"I had received lucrative offers from other teams and it was very difficult to turn those down," he said before the start of his annual Zo's Summer Groove charity basketball game at the Heat's home arena. "I've invested here in the community and I expect to spend the rest of my life here with my kids. I didn't feel it was worth leaving."

The game -- which also featured Heat teammate Antoine Walker and other NBA players -- is part of a weeklong series of events he organizes to benefit underprivileged children.

Mourning announced late Saturday at his charity gala that he would return to the Heat next season. It will be his 14th in the NBA -- not including a year he missed because of kidney disease that necessitated a transplant in December 2003.

He got a standing ovation Sunday from the 15,000 fans at AmericanAirlines Arena when he repeated his decision to return to Miami and promised another championship run.

"Zo coming back for another year makes everyone smile," said Heat teammate Dwyane Wade, who arrived to watch the game wearing a soft cast on his right wrist.

"I need to put my wrist to rest a little bit, so any time I'm not playing I've got to keep this on. Doctors' orders," said Wade, who sprained the wrist before the All-Star break this season.

Mourning averaged 7.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.66 blocks in an average of 20 minutes last season, making 20 starts as Shaquille O'Neal's backup and ranking third in the NBA in blocks per game.

"I think it's only fitting I retire in a Heat jersey," Mourning said. "I just felt I would have let so many people down. This is home for me. I love Miami, I love the fans."

With Mourning's decision to return, all eight primary members of the Heat's playoff rotation will likely be back next season.

All five starters -- O'Neal, Dwyane Wade, Walker, Jason Williams and Udonis Haslem -- are set to return, along with sixth man James Posey (who exercised a $6.4 million option to stay in Miami at least one more season) and guard Gary Payton, who intends to play a 17th season and second with Miami.

Mourning hopes to coax coach Pat Riley, who has not yet announced whether he would be coming back, to return as well.

"We've got enough voices to weigh on that decision. As soon as he gets back (from vacation), we've got to work on him," he said.</div>

Zo might have played some other teams, but Zo truly does love this city and this team. He turned down huge offers so that he can stay with Miami, I love it [IMG]

Vets sometimes take less money when they want another championship. It's not surprising. He's 36, he wants to enhance his legacy by getting another ring, he doesn't need money. I'd say it has more to do with that.
