Which big three do you guys think is better

    cassell, spree, KG
    or
    james, RD, KG

i would have to say the first one, but the second is close. I would take RD over spree, and james brings almost everything to the table that cassell does. The only advantage cassell has is his clutchness and leadership, but i think the mike james will be better statistically and be a smarter player than cassell. KG wil be the same KG imo.

Our role players and bench are much bettert than that years team that made the WCF, so why are we not even considered a playoff team?

I don't think James is a smarter player then Cassell. Just based on expirence.

Cassell during their good year did pretty good:
    19.8 PPG
    7.3 APG

    Spree averaged 16.8, 4, and 4.

    KG 24,14, and 5.

We'll have to wait and see how James does in Minni along with Davis and KG.

smarter as in shot selection. i know people are gonna be hating on this, but cassell takes the dumbest shots ever for a vet. He acts like he is a rookie and needs to score a billion points just to stay on the team. He shoots when we have NO advantage ont he break, and when other players are open, he will just chuck up a stupid shot. He never helps the flow of the game. I am not sure about james entirely, but i think he will be a little smarter in that sense than cassell

Cassell is a lot better than Mike James. He is one of the best point guards in the game. Mike James doesn't really have that great of point guard skills. He is a scorer, but that's about it. He doesn't make his teammates around him better the way Cassell does. Just look at what he did to the Clippers. If Cassell was on the Raptors last season, they could have made the playoffs. Bottom line is, James is nowhere as close of a talent as Cassell.

As for Spree and Ricky Davis? I have never been much of a Ricky Davis fan. He puts up good stats and is extremely athletic, but he has never really won anywhere. Spree may not be as flashy, but he is a smart player and can score just about as much as Davis can. Also, back when they made it to the WCF, they had Wally, who was a great scorer, and at times, he could even be the 2nd option on offense.

Cassell does have that winning factor, but KG just needs some scoring help, and someone to stop all the double teams, i think that this roster can do it for him.

You think Mike James has good shot selection?[IMG] Have you ever seen him play?

James is all scoring and nothing else. Trust me, Cassell > James, by a landslide. James isn't even that good of a playmaker. And like Bobcats said, Mike James doesn't have good shot selection either. Cassell is a better shooter, playmaker, passer, and he does things to make his teammates better. Unlike Mike James.

The role players are generally the same, if not worse, because of one name - Wally Szczerbiak. As unpopular as he may have been, he was a solid contributer off the bench for the Wolves WCF run, and is legitament scoring threat that the opposing teams would have to watch.

Comparing our current "Big 3" (I wouldn't even consider them to be a big 3), to the one that made the WCF is a joke.

I hope Henacy doesn't see this thread. Comparing Mike James to Sam Cassell is almost an insult to Sam. I don't see what grounds you can say that Sam's shot selection is poor. But in comparison to Mike James, Sam brings expierence (especially playoff), clutch, leadership, and stuff we can't even measure. Big men love this kid, we know his current situation with Elton Brand, and while on the Wolves, I don't think Garnett had as much fun in the NBA, ever.

Now comparing Sprewell to Davis, I think pretty much the same thing appeals to this combination as it did the James-Cassell one. As volitale as they both are, when on the floor, Sprewell has nothing else on his mind but to win. Sprewell can contribute on both ends, offensive and defensive.

You didn't just seriously just say that Mike James was smarter than Cassell, did you? It's not that hard to know how to jack up shots, that doesn't make you smart. No way does this "big" three even compare to your previous big three. This one is no where near being a threat.

Combined, this "big" three has a stellar 9 all-star appearances...oops, I made a mistake. Combined, Kevin Garnett has 9 all-star appearances.

Your previous and legit big three had a combined, 14 all-star games. If Sam Cassell got half the respect he deserves, that number would be near 20.

It's a joke to compare these two trios, and as a fan of the Timberwolves, I understand your hopes are high, but you need to come back down a little bit and realize what players you've got on your team. This trio will struggle to qualify for the play-offs, once again.

I said smart shot selection, not player. and i understand this team isnt good yet. But, Mike James was a 20 ppg scorer. Why wouldnt i have high hopes for KG to have a 20 5 5 player and a 20 6.5 pg? I know that people seem to not like mike james, but KG wanted him, and all i've heard is that he wants to win, period. plus we have two young guns in foye and mccants later that can come off the bench and give us a huge spark. Blount is an improvement over olowakandi and EJ. and hassell only got better. On paper the two teams are very close, we will just have to see how this team gels together though.

On paper, is just that, is paper. You say talent, when what you should say is potiental.

Cassell and Sprewell were proven, and have been on some very well developed, playoff deep teams. Proven talent, proven playoff series winners.

Foye hasn't played a NBA game this season, he is all potiental.

Ricky Davis is very talents, but hasn't seen the playoffs. He is on the path of Stephon Marbury, very talented, but bounces from team to team, not able to find his grove to win.

Mike James scored big for a losing team, a bad losing team. Yeah Kevin says he wanted him, but if it came down to it, I think he would take Sam any day over James.

Like I have stated many times before, our team has great POTIENTAL, and we look good on paper like you said, but for the future, not now. We will games based purley on athletism, but this team is not contender ready.

Mike James doesn't bring the clutch, the smarts, the leadership, the ability to relieve stress off KG down the stretch, nor does Mike James have the defensive abilities that Sam Cassell has. Their two totally different players. Doesn't it strike you odd that Mike James, before last year (his contract year), has never averaged more than 12.4 PPG and 4.4 APG, but in his contract year he puts up career numbers. Does Eric Dampier ring a bell? Until I see James producing halfway through next year, consistently, this team is a lotto team.

i hope you are wrong about james, and you really think cassell is a better defender than james? Like i said i have barely seen james play, but from what i hear he is a pest, and sammy just let people go by him, he plays BAD defense. it is smart, but he is way too slow. he just leaves a huge cussion hoping not to get burned.

Obviously D isn't Sam's strength, but its not like either him or Mike James is making the all defensive team. When coming down to the skeem of things Sam fit into the Wolves defensive skeem when he played to not be as vunarable to the team as you would expect. Yes he might let some of the better NBA faster more althetic gaurds get past him, but 9 times out of 10, he would burn them just as bad on the other end of the floor. But if you give Mike James the nod in that, he loses in so many other ways to Sam as previously stated. So in the end, Sam is more valuable to a team than Mike is, but Mike James has a lot of room to grow.. but it falls back under the potiental thing I was refering to.

Mike James is 30 years old. With that being said, I don't really think he has a lot of potential, and I don't really see him improving much from last season.

I'd rather have Sam Cassell taking dumbshots than Mike James jacking up threes every chance he gets. Honestly I do think both have a pretty bad shot selection but overall Sam is the better player. I'd have Sam over Mike James, and as for the big three, I respect history and I respect spree, so Im going with the old big three over the new big three.

Like i said, i take the first one, but this one looks damn good on paper. Obvioiusly sam over james, but if james is just as effective as last year, then is would be close, same with ricky. i fhe goes 20 10 5 and KG has his usuall monster year, this team will be a very solid team. Making us possible a great team 2 years from now.

Mike James should never ever be compared to Cassell. The old trio is better, but if you substitute Foye for James then you might have an argument (depending on how quickly Foye adjusts).
