<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As the Phoenix Suns continue to search for a backup point guard to play behind MVP Steve Nash, their latest quest may lead them to Minnesota free agent Marcus Banks. It would take a large chunk of Phoenix's $5.2 million midlevel exception to close the deal but probably would not be far removed from the $3.7 million salary that John Salmons turned down Thursday, according to the Arizona Republic. Banks attracted initial interest from the Los Angeles Lakers until they signed Vladimir Radmanovic, Minnesota until it signed Mike James and Atlanta until it signed Speedy Claxton. Cleveland's interest also has cooled, leaving the Suns to duel with Houston and Miami. The Rockets also have all of their midlevel exception remaining.</div> Source
Banks is a great player. Put him behind Nash and the Suns back-ups with Barbosa and Banks are better then some teams' regular starters.
wow we're getting more and more stacked. Ive been saying its going to be miami and suns in the finals.
this is great news for the suns. they got slammed for not drafting, they got slammed for not signing thomas. now the get marcus banks. you know why? great orginizations understand when the draft sucks and when the free agent market sucks. never make moves just because dumb ass fans and media are putting pressure on. make moves that make your team gell, and make them better. way to be patient phoenix. hope it pays off.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting deception:</div><div class="quote_post">nash is greatest mentor in the game for any upcoming pg</div> As a C's fan, I know that this kid was once GP's apprentice, and he literally took nothing away from that relationship, so I'm just going to hope he can take the ball to the basket and play some perimeter D, like he's supposed to, and that's it. I don't expect him to improve marginally, because he's always had the circumstances to do so, and he never has.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting deception:</div><div class="quote_post">nash is greatest mentor in the game for any upcoming pg</div> sorry, but what is your reasoning for this? I would think that he is nowhere near the greatest mentor, because the way he plays can hardly be mimicked. if a pg tries to play like nash, they're going to struggle because IMO only he can pull it off.

Steve Nash is more flashy than anything.
steve nash is the man lays up on people alot taller them him is better on paper just generally better than Jason Kidd or Brevin Knight.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting cokersimon:</div><div class="quote_post">steve nash is the man lays up on people alot taller them him is better on paper just generally better than Jason Kidd or Brevin Knight.</div> He may be extremely talented and able to fill it up, but his style of play is not one you would teach to players who are struggling with even the most basic of gameplans. Marcus Banks is one of those guys. Keeping it simple doesn't work with him, because he still doesn't grasp a team philosophy. Based on that observation, I would not want as complex and subtle a style as Nash's being taught to a simpleton.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting deception:</div><div class="quote_post">nash is greatest mentor in the game for any upcoming pg</div> Hell ya to this! I'm sure Banks is all smiles knowing he'll be able to pick Nash's brain for the next few yrs. Great player with skills. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Jason Kidd or Brevin Knight would be better mentors imo. ( there's players way more than he is at being flashy ) But guess what, he's get the job done.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting LRVBADASSBALLIN:</div><div class="quote_post">LMAO, Nash is a two time MVP, hello? Hahaha. I don't recall those guys winning MVP's. Do you??</div> No they haven't won MVP's (there's been at least one season where you could debate the relative merit of Kidd winning one), but they play straight ahead, intuitive, intelligent basketball, and with extensive time around them, you could pick up how to run an offense. Not so with Nash, his game is far too complex to want to teach to someone like Banks. Were I Banks, I would be far more excited to play with Kidd than Nash, because Kidd could teach me where to look on the court to make a play happen, while Nash would just make it happen (as he is wont to do), not necessarily with a rhyme or reason.
I doubt banks cares at all who his teammates are. He didnt seem to listen to KG at all. He was one of the guys jokin around after we go smoked and kg went off on em.

His style is too flashy especially with someone like Banks to comprehend. Its too complex for him to grasp imo. Kidd is a fundamental type guy. Not so much flash just straight to the point but just as effecient as Nash if not 10x better. If Banks was to have a mentor I'd pick either Knight or Kidd over Nash. To judge a PG's abilities on an award is pretty ignorant.
