Right now, it's 50-50 between Golden State and Indy. It's probably less but I'm trying to be optimistic. Now there are rumors Detroit is interested in AL. It makes it likely the Warriors aren't going to get AL. Besides Atlanta is asking for too much and taking their sweet time about it.

So what are some other moves the Warriors should consider?

Corey Maggette? He would be a nice pick up, but doubtful with Mike Dunleavy Jr. being BYC.

Chris Wilcox? He's been discussed a lot, but Seattle is asking for too much. Wilcox is asking for big bucks and would take minutes away from Ike so pass on him.

Jared Jeffries? I like his D and size for a swingman, but we need scoring up front so he's not the answer. Still, a good man to have on the bench. Maybe the Wizards would take Mikael Pietrus for him if they have trouble signing him?

James Posey? I'm not sure if he's available but he would be a good fit. He can certainly give the Warriors points up front. But he would be tough to get as Miami probably wouldn't be interested in Troy Murphy. They already have Udonis Haslem and Antoine Walker.

Sasha Pavlovic of the Cleveland Cavs? Maybe they would be interested in Murphy if Gooden goes elsewhere. I like him, but can he be counted on as a regular scorer?

Rashard Lewis? He would be good to have but at what price? I hate to see what Seattle wants for him if they want an all-star for Wilcox.

Shareef Abdur Rahim? It would be great if the Kings would want Murphy enough to trade SAR to a divisional opponent. Don't hold your breath.

That leaves some of the malcontents like Carlos Boozer who's another PF. There's also Reuben Patterson, but he's not with the Trailblazers anymore.

What the Warriors really need is someone like Boris Diaw as mentioned elsewhere on this board, but who is that guy? Diaw didn't cost an arm and a leg when he was traded to Phoenix, but instead of getting a Diaw you would likely end up with another mediocre salary filler at SF.

Yes to Maggette, Yes to Rashard Lewis, Yes to Posey.

Of those I like Rashard Lewis the best because he's an all-star, he could be a legit scoring option for this team ahead of Jason Richardson. He's pretty well rounded for the most part and even has a post up game for when he can't outquick somebody. He can also shoot over most small forwards causing mismatch problems. He's probably due for a big pay raise though. So if we trade Richardson for him, we may lose a guy who can finish big inside and with contact. I haven't seen much of Lewis lately, but I've always thought he was kind of soft to start out with. Tended to shoot more than using his steps and his live dribble. I actually like Ray Allen more than him because he gives more than just scoring, even though he's kind of soft as well.

Maggette I like just because it gives us an option that teams would want if either him or Richardson were to move later. The thing I like about Maggette is that he's got a mix of strength to take it all the way to the rack and shooting to his game. I don't like the fact he doesn't make teammates better and he tends to turn the ball over a lot while trying to hold onto it. He's a pretty good defender and makes a lot of points at the foul line. He doesn't spread the floor that well or help the ball movement IMO. But he's still a very above average player compared to Harrington who I think is good, but a very bad fit for the Warriors and what they need.
    Maggette is injury prone though.

I like Posey even though he is a streak player. He's effective as a defender, a shooter, and some times playing as a tall guard. I don't think he's a good fit with Richardson, but he is a reliable player most of the time when he's healthy. I wouldn't expect him to shoot well with limited touches... but he does add depth, he knows when to defer and can finish in transition, collect rebounds very well. He does whatever needs to be done. He's also been hurt.

If the deal falls through. Stand pat or find cheaper contracts or work on other trades.

The time to not stand pat was last season, but he wound up re-signing Dunleavy and then stopping everything because he already had much salary committed in '04 to waste it on anything in '05. Plus BYC status was a pain with Murphy, which is why Dunleavy's will be horrible if he can't improve.

Agreed, if theres nothing that Mullin can find that will help the team immediately he should stand pat. I'm sure most fans will be frustrated but we'd probably get more value or an expiring contract at the all-star break and we're almost surely not making the playoffs even if we make some neutral trades this offseason.

Well, it's like the only moves we can make are lateral moves or moves that take away from the unique values that Murphy and Pietrus can give us in a trade. If Harrington isn't the answer, how do we find value for this guy when he could be possibly overpaid and not as effective as he was on Atlanta playing on a crappy team in the worst division. He played mostly power forward and he's not nearly as good as Murphy IMO. Plus, he doesn't solve the Dunleavy situation because he doesn't play anything like a real small forward does and he doesn't undo Dunleavy's deal. I'm afraid to see Mullin make a signing in the offseason, he's been absolutely horrible. How much more can this franchise take when we're so close to recovering?

Plus, flexibilty is the key. We've never had breathing room because we can't decide on the right guys and we're not distinguishing between good risk and bad risk. I do believe in more veterans that fit together, less rookies to develop all at once. Two euro projects in a row offered promise, but it probably wasn't the best way to go... not all these guys learn how to play ball in time to reach their potential and play their intended positions the way they are supposed to. For instance Pietrus was supposed to be a shooting guard and Biedrins was supposed to be a power forward. What happened? They lacked the skills and the instinct to immediately play those positions. They got the brawn, but not the brains. I think one out of the two is capable of learning, though, and that is Biedrins. He'll have more impact as a big guy IMO.

If the trade he originally wanted wasn't there, I'm glad he didn't force the action or settle for less. He's done enough damage. Just like Isiah Thomas when he decided to add another overpaid ball-dominating guard next to Marbury, Francis, Crawford and ignoring things like team chemistry, defense, rebounding, and all the other stuff teams need to do in order to win.

It's like both we and Isiah's Knicks keep thinking we're better than the other team just because we have more stars. If the team don't fit, it doesn't win. It's easy as that. I've got faith in a guy like Channing Frye much like I do with Ike Diogu, but I don't know if it's enough. Maybe both teams need more and they need the ability to make the right trades rather than small impact trades because they don't have the flexibility in their salary situations or the right contracts to give in return.

I'm not sure about Jared Jeffries anymore. It's rumored Isiah wants him (he's passing on Jackie Butler for Jeffries???).

    W's prolly shouldn't get him.

Even if our entire team is made of SGs and SFs, I will do Maggette for Dunleavy any day.

Jefferie? Nah, he will probably cost a ton, and the last thing I want is to increase our payroll.

Posey and his last year's contract? Sure thing. Only problem is that we have nothing to trade.

    Pavlovic? Who's that?

Lewis. Eh. I mean, he will cost a ton, and he will opt out from his contract next year anyway.

Mmm Rahim... It's really funny, because if we didn't resign Murphy early, Abdul-Rahim could have been a Warriors, because he asked Warriors first. I don't think he is on the market though.

It would be nice if we can get a cheap SF...

I say go out and sing jumaine jones as a free agent with part of the mid level .... the guy can play the 3 and 4, can board, hit the three and D up.

Then sign STacey Augmon for veteran presence and defense.

Stay pat .... see what happens come all star break.

I think the loss of Fisher is a significant improvement. No more stagnant offense. And the liaiblity on defense is gone.

Those are ideas. I like Jumaine Jones.

What about Keith Van Horn? The only problem is the softness has to stop. No more soft players! But somebody needs to shoot... That's our dilemma... we need guys like Fisher, Murphy to shoot, but they are slow as hell and don't do too many things outside of finesse.

While I don't know half as much about the Warriors as all of you guys do, I think Trevor Ariza would be a decent fit, wouldn't he? The Magic are very willing to let him go, and he probably wouldn't cost much given that he's still young and offensively underdeveloped.

His lack of an offensive game sort of plays into the Warriors' hands though. As a team that already has a lot of reliable scoring threats on offense, Ariza's shortcomings on that end wouldn't be exposed. He's good at just staying out of the way and being an 'energy guy'.

The one area where I think Ariza would most improve the Warriors' is in transition though, on both ends of the floor. His transition game is actually very advanced offensively compared to his half-court game. Most importantly though, he's a strong transition defender, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that one of the Warriors' biggest areas in need of improvement at this point?

This is a good one, VC. Ariza would be a great look for the Warriors for the points mentioned. He's 6'8" and athletic. We could use his quickness and tough defense at the SF position, especially with Pietrus potentially leaving at some point. If he comes cheap, all the better. He's the kind of prospect who's assets are easily mined: hustle, defense, rebounding, and quickness. He could shoot 2 for 5 from the field but still give the Warriors a nice boost in the areas not measured by numbers. They need that.

    ESPN Report on Ariza:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">An outstanding find in the second round of the draft, Ariza's athleticism made him difficult to contain in the open court and helped him earn above-average rebounding numbers despite a lack of muscle. Ariza also defended well and figures to only get better with time. He's long, can leap and has good quickness, so he could become a top-flight stopper down the road... </div>

Sounds good to me! Oh, and about the transition defense: YES, the Warriors need some help with that too. They have trouble even yelling out "Stop Ball!" let alone actually picking up or defending the 3 on 2 properly.

Dunleavy and pietrus to the Bucks
    Magloire to the Warriors
Negative we are left without a SF starter and back up
Positive We get rid of Dunleavy killer salary and get cap space relief for next year.
By the way i did this trade on espn trade machine so it does work salary cap wise. Now if only the Buycks would bite.

The Bucks still have well paid Simmons and overpaid Michael Redd to deal with, plus now they need a point guard and some free cap to re-sign Andrew Bogut and Charlie V in three years. Maybe the Bucks can handle their financials better than the Warriors can. They at least make the playoffs. If we ever got Magloire as a rental, we'd need to dump one of the centers.

I wouldn't mind getting him for Murphy and platooning Andris, Ike, and Magloire between the PF and C positions. Biedrins/Magloire on the floor together would be a nice interior presence.

I also wouldn't mind resinging Magloire if he came here. I always liked him in NO. What shocked me recently when looking at his stats is just what an iron man he's been in his career. Here are his games played:

    00-01 Cha 74
    01-02 Cha 82
    02-03 Nor 82
    03-04 Nor 82
    04-05 Nor 23
    05-06 Mil 82

Wow, look at that. Other than 04-05 when he was out with the broken finger (which is not a conditioning injury or structural "poor frame" injury but a random injury) he didn't miss a game in 4 out of 5 years and only missed 8 his rookie year.

    That's damn impressive.

Shawn Marion is my candidate for Iron Man [IMG]

The guy plays lots of minutes, plays physical, and he never gets hurt.

The most dynamic starting trio on this roster seems to be Baron/JRich/Diogu. If this is the plan, then bringing in someone like Magloire would be very interesting. Add in Dunleavy and Magloire with that trio, and it would be interesting to see how they perform. All five of those players would beable to score. Then on the bench, there would be possibilities, depending on who would be dealt for Magloire, to have some strong defenders there in the second and third units. I am not sure how a deal would work out though... Maybe this is why the Warriors seemed like bidders for Magloire in the past.

I think maybe someone like Brendan Haywood, would be good as well. Then there could also be some improvement at the SF position, but that seems to be difficult with Dunleavy's contract.
