    <font size=""4"">J?nmundur Sigurbjornsson</font>

    Height: 196 cm <font size=""1"">(approx 6'4")</font>
    Weight: 88 kg <font size=""1"">(approx 194 lbs)</font>
Date of Birth: June 19, 1991
    Place of Birth: Hverager?i

I'm sure that none of you have even heard of this kid but you will in the next few years or so. J?nmundur Sigurbjornsson, or "J?nsiggy" [Jon-sea-gee] is absolutely extraordinary and one of the top youth talents out there. I first caught eye of him when he was brought in as a future talent by the Icelandic federation for European scouting through major promotions. I was able to catch him play a game against European league pros in France and he ended up scoring 47 points in two 20 minute halves. The kid shoots well beyond the NBA three point range with relative ease and can block shots taken by guys that are twice his age, strength, and at least 6'10". I was flat out stunned at how he played. He wasn't subbed off once, never got tired, and continuously kept assaulting the basket with no let up. He's stellar at defense. He ended up with I believe at least 7 steals, 13 blocks and 6 defensive rebounds.

After the first game I thought perhaps that was it and he was really lucky but then two weeks later he was back in the city and ended up with 54 points in the same amount of time. He also tallied 10 steals, 6 blocks, 13 total rebounds, and 4 assists. He isn't much of passer but I never seen someone that young do so much damage to professional players' images. He made everyone look like dirt. I would assume that with his ability to get up and block shots like he does that he can dunk but he never did. It's always some type of amazing shot or a strange drive in the paint where he'll let off some crazy lay up to draw a foul.

He's very bright and makes best of intelligent scoring opportunities. I saved the best for last. His ability to shoot equally sharp from either hand. The way he was dribbling and shooting I had absolutely no idea whether he was left or right handed.I really had no idea that type of talent could come out of Iceland, though we've seen one pro come from there years back even through he didn't do anything in the NBA, really. The next time I get the opportunity to watch him in a game I'll be sure to take pictures or even better yet, shoot a video on it and post it online for viewing splendor. As much as I can write about J?nsiggy being so good so young it has to really be seen to be believed I figured. But I still thought that many of you here would've loved to read something about this new talent so that's why I'm writing about it. I will be looking forward to the next five years when he's eligible for draft. If he keeps this up or naturally improves, I can only believe he'd be the first pick that year bar none.

Well I learned a bit Icelandic so I spoke to him the best I could after the second game. I asked him if he was planning on moving to a big European league like Russia, France, or Italy when he's eligible. He said he "did not know because he is not sure whether he will want to stay in Europe or move to the United States and play college basketball." I asked him which colleges he likes; he said he "did not know although some have offered." When I asked which he didn't remember any of the names because he's "not familiar with any of them though he's heard such great things." My final question was if he had a favorite basketball team and he responded with, "yes I enjoy CSKA, Bulls, and Heaters." I would assume he meant the Miami Heat but probably in his country they pronounce the name as the "heaters."

I don't think he can compete in the Worlds because of his young age. But you never know with kids like Freddy Adu and Theo Walcott making noise over in football (soccer).

You can learn Icelandic, I learned it from this site and it's well done. - http://www.icelandic.hi.is/

Next time you plan on watching one of his games, bring a camcorder [IMG]

I was like wtf when I saw "shoots:switch", and the fact that you couldn't tell whether he was left or right handed must mean he is very talented.

Have you seen anything on him on the web? I googled him and found nothing [IMG]

J?nmundur Sigurbjornsson aka Jon Jornssson/Mundur Sigurb for short.

No I searched for a few days once I seen him play and found nothing what-so-ever. It's probably because he's only still a student and he is from a small country that isn't really known for producing good basketball talent. I would assume that once he makes it to a college in the states or a European club whatever he decides, then we'll have some information on him other than what I received at the games. And yes, I will definitely take a camcorder with me next time. I wrote that right in the first post I believe. Then once I get some footage I'll get it on the web after altering it. Hopefully he'll be brought back again and playing around the southern region of France during the fall, winter, or spring.

    I would believe so.

    * EDIT: Any other questions just ask. I'll answer them when I get back I need to step out and drop offf some clothes for a friend of mine.

Man, at 15 years old it's unpredictable really. Technically for most people we don't actually stop growing until we're 22 years old. But from any guess based on most peoples' growths I'd say he could get as tall as 6'7" and with the skills he possesses right now that'd be scary. I would actually hope he comes to the States because this is where to be if you're going to the NBA with a choice. After all it is a league based in North America so why not come here if you're after a future within basketball.

I think what would probably sway his or anyone else's decision is based on immigration laws. It may depend on if he has any relatives here or not because otherwise it's almost impossible to live here without a working visa, school program visa, or fianc?/marriage visa. I'm not too familiar with the fact if marrying an American female works the same for him to be able to live here as vice versa. The best bet for him would be school program visa but those aren't easy to come by these days no matter who you are unless you have the cash.

I think he should be in the Memphis college game where Sene and Dirk got noticed. I hope he gets into that and colleges can see him. He needs to start playing pro soon I think if he isn't coming, guys like Andrei Kirilenko started @ age of 15

Yeah I agree, he needs to find his way to the Memphis College Game.

A good way to tell how tall someone will be is their feet size. Your feet usually grow faster than the rest of your body and then the body catches up.

Yes you're right. We'll all have to see where he goes from where I last seen him though I'm sure he's making the right choices. Remember that he was brought to mainland Europe by the Icelandic federation for European scouting through major promotions so he must be an important prospect in the eyes of European countries and other scouts. He was one of the few kids at those games that was actually allowed to play as well. Of them only two others that shown up in the second game really impressed me. The Valverde brothers of Spain; Saturnino and Francesco.

Did you ask him which was his natural hand? And does he use only one hand from beyond the arc or does it matter what way he is going or if he's left of the basket he uses his left hand and same with the right side and right hand.. lol probably didn't pay attention to that.

I didn't get to ask him much, he didn't have the time. I only asked what was posted before. From what I've seen he shoots the majority of his shots with one hand, switching off depending on the situation. I think he does this to attempt to fool the one(s) guarding him. Making them think which hand he will use to take the shot before they go up for a block attempt. That can cause a lot of stress on a defender not knowing where the shot will come from and how he will take it.

In terms of defense, does he have the proper technique? What I mean is that, against younger competition, players often use their athleticism for blocks, quickness for steals, etc. But a lot of the time, they are gambling and getting away with it against weaker competition. Does he have good footwork/positioning and does he stay out of foul trouble, etc?

It sounds as though he isnt playing against great competition at the moment, I'm guessing he plays centre or power forward having just turned 15 and being 6'4 (racking up all those blocks and rebounds), but regardless of that, he does sound very promising. Do you know when is he tipped to turn pro?

This kid sounds amazing. I really can't wait to see some video on him and learn more about it. I can't believe he can shoot great with both hands.

Nope, I doubt Walton will be able to say that. [IMG]

Yeah he used proper technique. Though in Europe they don't call pity fouls every second like in the NBA. He would have to adjust to that but otherwise as I've mentioned before he's very bright. I don't think that after new training for rules he would have much trouble. He responded to everything his translation coach was blurting at him to do.

He played against some of the top players from the Italian and French leagues. Those of which from clubs that produce some of the top European player NBA properties today. I would assume he would play center or power forward at home, but he isn't labelled as either. I would believe he'd turn pro sometime soon as many have suggested here thus far, or at least prepare himself to go to the US for college if possible.

Yeah it's really great stuff. One of the best youth talents I've seen. I'll travel some good distance if it takes that just to get a video. Just as long as it's not in his own country I couldn't afford going there as much as I'd love to. [IMG] Iceland is a beautiful country to visit.
