C: Yao ming / Deke PF: Juwan / Chuck hayes SF:Tmac / Kirk Snyder / novak / ryan Bowen SG: Shane battier / Luther Head / Bob sura PG: Rafer Alston / Vspan / JLII With this lineup and our MLE gone, we have one last need and thats it. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Umair15:</div><div class="quote_post">Our MLE is gone??? I thought we used a little of it? Do we have enough of it to get Jeffries??</div> Don't worry we still have $3.3 M($4.9M minus $1.6M = $3.3M) left on our MLE after the signing of VSpan. The buyout for VSpan is only $350,000 according to a Greek Newspaper and it does'nt count toward the salary cap. TMacGarnett might have thought that the $5M contract the VSpan has signed means the whole $4.9M MLE is consumed when in fact the $5M is a three year contract with the first year worth $1.6M. Keep in mind that $5M is distributed over 3 years. To make things easy, each year any team above the salary cap has $4.9M MLE money to spend on free agents and previous unsigned draft picks. Every other year also team over the salary cap can have additional $1.9M(aside from the $4.9M) MLE money to spend. Last year(05-06 season) we have the additional $1.9M MLE and used it to sign Derek Anderson. So we cannot have it until next year.
It was a great idea for the rockets to bring this guy over. Though it is a risk bringing him over with that kind of contract unknown of what he is able to do at the nba level like Sarunus Jasikevicius. I believe that won't inhibit him because hs is relentless and has great heart and like JVG said a guy with heart can be taught to play D. Hopefully his jump shot has enough range for our three and hopefully he becomes a Key contributor for us.
ok so is the 3.3 MLE good enuff to get a decent power forward?? Our last need is Power Forward Rafer/V-Span/Sura Battier/Snyder/Head Tmac/Battier/Bowen Howard/Hayes <<<< need help here!! Yao/Deke our only need now is to get a decent pf with gpod defense and good offense.
I think a decent Big is going to have to come in a trade using that exception. I dont think JLIII is signing for the min. for 3 yrs. so the MLE will go down. There will be 2-2.3 mil. left on it. Qytel Woods and Dermarr Johnson are still available. Would fit in well off the bench at SF and both give another shooting threat and more size and athletic ability. I wouldn't expect any big name. I know the Rockets would like to deal J. Howard's contract, but he has no value, unless he is involved in a multi team deal where the Rockets get a decent return and a PF from this or another deal.
I dont know if I agree with that. I know a quality PF and another C is needed, and it could come in one player, but I was speaking more about the little money left on the MLE. A quality PF won't come for the around 2 mil left. Teams always can use another athletic defender that can be an outside threat. With only L.Head as a bargaining chip, and the trade exception, they are going to have to work some magic to bring one of the rare quality PF through a trade. Skip Sura VSpan TMac Snyder Head Shane Howard Hayes Novak Yao Deke I know TMac will get alot of min at SF too and whether R.Bowen is on the team or not, I still Won't count him. With 4 guys able to take some min at PF, Unless the Rockets can get a truly good starting PF, they can still use other help
Dallas just got Anthony Johnson, and it seems they've been committing to adding as much depth as possible. Something Van Gundy and CD don't seem to understand how to do. The strength of adding depth is giving Tmac a rest so he'll be healthy an fresh for the playoffs. But if we have to depend on him to score 40 a night, well you what will happen.......Its a shame because Dirk doesn't have too, Duncan doesn't have too, or Wade.

Notice how Haslems career skyrockets once Wade becomes the main option. Notive how pressure is taken of Posey, payton, and mourning to score so they fill minor roles. Duncan also makes his team better in the sense that his leadership role on the court and off demand respect. Spurs really don't have depth at all. Outside of their starting lineup they have Micheal finley going through a subpar season. Dallas' depth is basically a bunch of guys who demand the ball and play together as a team. Josh Howard and Jason Terry aren't effectiver unless they have the ball ready to score. Their new found defense that they recently learned and that choice of letting dirk rest because they have those options is why they succeed. Our depth is more like Miami's depth. We have the 2 allstars, a PG who we know can score, but can dish it off on occasion, a midrange shooting PF, and that scrappy SF defense guy that does about everything. Coming off the bench representing alonzo is our old pal Deke who obviously isn't better but has the same initial impact. It is up to Tmac and Yao to make these guys step up and make this team better.
^^Which aint gonna be brought over with the little left on the MLE, so the Rockets still can add depth. I won't say that all the Rockets need is a good PF, and they are at the top of the class either. It would definitly help though.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Umair15:</div><div class="quote_post">Our last need is a good pf who can play good defense and can score.</div> Unfortunately, there simply aren't too many players that fit that criteria.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Drew Gooden is one btw. Can we do something to get him. Durvasa..can you tell me what is a S&T?? </div> A sign and trade is a situation where one team signs their restricted free agent (that the other team wants), then trades him for another player.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AznxBaller:</div><div class="quote_post">A sign and trade is a situation where one team signs their restricted free agent (that the other team wants), then trades him for another player.</div> So its like drew gooden is signed by cavs then traded to rockets. And a s&t is to make sure that a player doesn't go on another team? Right? Well anyways..Thanks for the help..
