I watched a couple games in the summer leagues, and you guys may have pulled off the steal of the offseason. Telfair ochestrated the offense perfectly and had Green & Jefferson lookin like allstars out there. Kudos to Ainge. With all the athletes Boston has, the missin piece was an unselfish point guard who will RUN RUN RUN. It also looked like he worked on his jumpshot too. Boston will be DANGEROUS this year. props

Ainge traded for Telfair thinking that Mo' Cheeks loved him and that they could use him to get Iverson. SURPRISE! Drafting Telfair in the first placewas a publicity stunt, Mo is not interested and D-West is a better point than Telfair. I Truly believe Ainge's master plan involved a starting 5 constisting of Iverson, West, and Pierce.

I don't think it would be a smart idea for Boston to give up Green for Iverson (even though that would be the case if the trade happened). Green has a very bright future with a lot of potential. He's a dunking machine and can virtually score from anywhere on the court. If the C's are in desperate need of having a winning record NOW...than go for it....but I see a better future if Boston keeps Green.

I guess Danny Ainge was not to happy with the appearance of Green when he arrived at the Summer League. He was said to be a bit "out of shape" maybe overweight, and Danny was not at all impressed with his off season work ethic. Therefore, I don't see Ainge having any second thoughts on trading him for a superstar in Iverson.

Seeing as Mo isn't even a remotely serviceable coach, I would be hard pressed to think he holds too much sway in personnel decisions. Then again, you never can count out BK Broiler's capability to cripple a team and its chances. As for a publicity stunt, what the hell publicity was that? Ainge picked up Bassy because there was absolutely no certainty as to who would back up West. Greene was out, no one was certain about Rondo, and all told, question marks were everywhere, even with Foye.

More wild speculation based on nothing anyone in the NBA has said.

It would be foolish for the Celtics to pass up on a player like Iverson and bank on Green. Yes, Green does have good potential and is a "dunking machine" if it matters, but chances are he'll NEVER be as good as Iverson. Paul Pierce is only getting older and coupling up with a superstar in Iverson is a type of opportunity you just don't pass up, especially for what the 76ers are offering. If Green can have the impact of a regular 30-point scorer who is going to the Hall of Fame once he retires, then no, the Celtics shouldn't trade him. But realistically, he won't. With Iverson and Pierce the Celtics are pretty much instant contenders having the most dangerous backcourt in the league, bar none. The future won't be bleek without Green; the Celtics are stacked with young talent and are just giving away a very small portion. And while we're at it, let me say no player on the Celtics aside from Pierce should be considered untouchable in a trade for Iverson.

So what would you rather do: gamble on Green to develop (I hear Ainge isn't even high on him) or take a chance to get a championship and include him in an Iverson package?

Thanks for talking a little sense. Pierce is the only man who needs to stick around with this trade. But I think we all know the reason the trigger has not been pulled, and its name is Wally. Billy King has come out publicly on the side of a no-Wally deal, but let's be honest. If there's no Wally, then how do you match those salaries. Lord Knows neither of these teams can just make a swap. We need the ol' 10% rule in effect. And without Wally's chunk of change, the deal never happens.

To stick to the thread. I must repeat, Telfair was not a publicity stunt, as some idiot called him (because there was no publicity, jackass!), he is not necessarily trade bait (as no one seems to want him, save us), he is more than likely just a fixer-upper of a replacement part, for Delonte West to wail on in practice.

With any luck, he turns into a good playmaker and we can chalk him up as a decent bench player.

The Celtics swapped their 7th pick (with which they could have gotten Brandon Roy) for Sebastian Telfair. How can this be considered a steal? Even if it turns out to be a good move, it's still a huge risk. Roy is the surest thing in this draft.

Telfair was not a publicity stunt for Boston, he was a publicity stunt wen he was drafted by Portland. Sorry if it was a misunderstanding, I know there is no publicity with this one, I like this trade for Boston, getting rid of LaFrentz.

Absolutely agreed, but there are other things to go with this trade that makes it a good deal. I have been saying for a while that Roy is going to be the most ready the most soon, but we unloaded Raef, and got a stopper in the middle, and Bassy to boot. And not only that, let's not forget that we have nowhere to put Roy. The spots he plays are already loaded with talent, and some of it is so backed up, we don't know what to do with what we already have. So no harm, no foul.

I didn't consider the other players moved in the trade. My mistake.

Happens all the time, no biggy. All told, I like the idea, but at the same time, I am still semi-with you as to the validity of this trade at this particular point in time. I mean think of it, Raef only has one more year on his deal than Theo does, and it's about the same money. All that, and they still have to get the Suns involved later, and they take on Brian Grant. The cap right now is hurting, pretty darn bad. We have Rondo and Bassy to show for it. That's all. Yikes!

Sebastian Telfair never got a chance to show off his talent at Portland...

He made enough starts to at least show somebody a glimmer of what he was capable of last season, but since he didn't show anyone anything, we can only assume. I think he'll get a chance this year, but you can bet if he doesn't show us anything, Rondo is going to be logging a lot of minutes.

To anyone who says the Celtics passed up getting Brandon Roy at 7, you'e wrong.

Well, that kind of proves and disproves the theory at the same time. If Ainge was serious about moving up, then yes, he might have taken Foye early, but at the same time, with the T'Wolves looking at Foye, if they take, Roy can be our's. It's a little bit of both, and the Herald speculating really doesn't say much to me.

Mike Gorman said after the draft that the Celtics would have picked Rondo at 7 anyway.

Not sure if I believe that, but Chad Ford did have us linked with Rondo weeks before the draft.

And we did work him out more than any other player.
