we all know KG has had a successful career but where is he amongst the greatest players of all time? he has had great numbers but has never won a ring although he has yet to retire he only has a few KG caliber seasons left in the tank. if he retired today where whould he stand?
Without the ring, top 20, with, top 10. No seven footer has ever been as talented as him. Few players have ever been as versatile form any height. He is truly one of the greats

Between him, Nash, and Kobe its truly a toss up IMO.
in my opinon he is the most versitile big men the game has ever seen. he could play any position, he also has good range and can handle the ball well. he is definetly top 15 ever
Garnett is argubally the best player in the league today, he is also one of my favourite players, but to say he is a top 20 of all time is a bit far fetched to me. Top 50? Definatley, but I'm pretty confident I could name 15-20 other players that are/were better overall (considering stats, titles, awards etc.) than KG. Top 20 PF of all time? Yes. Top 20 player of all time? No.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">but I'm pretty confident I could name 15-20 other players that are/were better overall (considering stats, titles, awards etc.) than KG.</div> Thats the thing about the NBA though. Titles, and awards don't mean as much as they imply. Stats while do hold up, sometimes don't mean anything. There is things that aren't measured statwise. I think he could easily be in the Top 25 list of best players of all time. His versatility, energy, pride, kindness, and ability to do as much as he can is what makes KG....KG.
Well I agree that the awards and stuff at the end of the day dont mean much, but like it or not, they're somthing basically all NBA analysts or enthusiasts base their "greatest this", "greatest that" lists off.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">Lol this is what I LOVE about Garnett. He can play almost any position. So saying top PF of all time isn't doing him justice.</div> Top 20 forward then. His primary position is PF, so I'm not going to credit him for positions he fills in for. Yes it takes talent to be able to play multiple positions, but there are alot of players in the league that can do it. Jalen Rose for example.
It is easily arguable that KG is the G.O.A.T. In terms of championship rings, Bill Russel runs the table in my book. Kevin Garnett reminds me so much of Michael Jordan, but at 7' tall. I'd like to see Kevin go to Miami, play there and take over in the paint when Shaq retires.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">Stats while do hold up</div> Guess Stephon Marbury is pretty high on your list then? Puts out greats stats but can't win a game to save his life. Winning championships isn't everything, but that missing ring leaves a big glare on his resume. Comparing him to other players, he puts up just as equally impressive stats, but the difference is the playoff wins. So regardless you have to give the nod to other players. Hes def a top 50 player of all time, easily IMO. But until he leaves his stamp in the playoffs like he did went he took the Wolves to the WCF, he cant be in the top 20. Players lead their legacy in the playoffs, not with regular season numbers. I am the biggest Garnett fan there is, point and simple, but one of the most irratating things to see done is for people to overrate him beyond the lack of sucess he has had.. partly his fault, mostly the Timberwolves franchise's fault. And yes if you want, I will come back with at least 20 players that have had better careers than Kevin.

Even if i didnt live anywhere near minny, i am sure he would be my fav player because of all the things he does right. He is truly one of the best people in the world (nba wise). He cares so much about everyone else.

Also Marbury may not be a GREAT player but he is still a good one. Him, KG, and Jason Kidd have the same problem. They always fall short of championship material even though themselves are good players. Its not there fault they can't win a game if anything its everyone on the teams fault including the front desk why they can't win a ring.
^^Not to mention malone and stockton, who btw had each other. If KG had Kidd forget about. They would be nba champs imo. I know i cant KNOW it, but they would certantly contend for all 18 years they were together if like malone/stockton

The thing that greatly seperates a player like Jason Kidd from Stephon Marbury is the playoff apperances and wins. Yes, Jason hasn't won a title but he has made his presence known and felt where it matters - the playoffs. Yes winning a title is really big on the team concept, however - thats where making your teammates better comes in to play. Shaq had one great player to his disposal - Kobe, the rest (outside Robert Horry) benefited greatly from Shaq's presence. Jordan did it with the bulls, Bill Russell was all team concept, Larry Bird elevated his team's play, and now Duncan makes some of the average players have great moments. Not to say Kevin doesn't make his players great, because I will argue down to the bone that he does - but that fact is he has only made it past the first round once. And using the line that not everything is measured by stats - you can say that for just about every top 50 players in the NBA, players not in the top 50, and Kevin himself. You have yet to point out a reason he sets himself apart from those great players who have gone title-less, and into the group of players who won titles, were great in the stat sheet, and great in the lockroom. Once Kevin leaves his stamp in the playoffs more than just once, he will be in that circle - however, no matter how much I love his heart, play, skill, you name it - he is only top 50, not among the very elite.
