I remember last year, Phil Jackson said that he felt that this team resembled the 90-91 Bulls. Looking at our new starting 5, this team reminds me a lot of the 97-98 Bulls. PG- Smush Parker/Ron Harper- okay, this is the one that doesn't really fit, but, hey, you never know. SG- Kobe Bryant/Michael Jordan- wow, nobody saw this coming... SF- Lamar Odom/Scottie Pippen- I know he'll probably play more PF, but it fits more in the Pippen sense. PF- Vladimir Radmanovic/Toni Kukoc- Remember, for this season he was starting instead of Dennis Rodman, most people forget that... and they both are SFs in PFs bodies who live and die by the three, so I think it fits. C- Kwame Brown/Luc Longley- Some people here are expecting big numbers from Kwame this season, I think it will be more like what Longley gave to the Bulls- 10/6/1 block. On the bench it isn't quite the same, but there are some: Shammond Williams/Steve Kerr- Both play out of position at the point, they both are pretty much just undersized SGs who can shoot the lights out. Chris Mihm/Bill Wennington- Okay, this one is just in the sense that they both come off the bench and can hit the mid-range jumper for a big man... But overall, I think this comparision works, maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but then again, there's nothing wrong with that... So what do you guys think?
I don't think so. If the Lakers were like they 97-98 Bulls, they would be championship contenders (which they arn't).
I don't think it's a secret that Phil's trying to re-produce the Bulls around Kobe, but I think today, that Bulls team, would struggle to win Championships. You need a bigman who can score the ball and dominate the paint to win a championship, the Lakers don't have that yet.
You hit the tail on the donkey Mamba. I agree. Thats exactly what PJAX is tryin to do. I also agree, Jordan and his Bulls would not have such an easy time w/ that lineup in todays NBA.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> You need a bigman who can score the ball and dominate the paint to win a championship </div> Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace did not exactly "dominate the paint" in terms of offense during the '04 Pistons title run. Furthermore, neither did Shaq during the '06 Heat run. Although I agree that you need a big man who can make his prescence felt, you don't necessairily need a big man who has to "dominante"...you more so need a deep roster comprised of veterans who know how to do thier job.

And um they won titles against some History's greatest Centers. Lets think: CENTERS David Robinson Shaquille O'neal Hakeem Olajuwan Patrick Ewing Alonzo Mourning *Tom Chambers *Dikembe Mutombo ext..... Okay to day you have CENTERS An old Shaq Brad Miller NeNe Wallace Howard .....and maybe im missing someone Centers are an endangered species today. But when the bulls dominated, the league was filled with great bigmen. Some that i didnt even mention that would kill in todays game. Like rick smitts. Please dont reply with an arguement that smitts wasnt good because that isnt my point. POINT. Bulls Dominated a League Full of Great Centers. Why would they need a great center in todays game where bum centers are getting star money?
I always felt the 3-Headed Monster the Bulls used was underrated. Individually they didn't put up dominating numbers, but when you combine the total of the 3 players, they stack up against some of the better centers during that era. The main advantage they gave to the Bulls team was anchoring the defense and creating space on offense. Luc Longley was a crafty passer and all of them could hit the 10-12 foot jumpshots.
^^^Exactly... to say that the Bulls team of the 90s couldnt compete for a championship today is unreasonable... Are you serious Jordan in his prime? Michiganave17 brought up a great point in that the Bulls team of the 90s took on Olajuwon and Robinson in their prime and A young Shaq you say they couldnt compete now when you have who? Nesterovic, Ilgauskas, Mihm, Magloire... am I leaving anyone important out? That team could compete for a championship in any era to date hands down.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't think so. They almost beat Pheonix, would have been favored in the next series against the clippers because of matchups, and have been known to handle Dallas. They could have stumbled into the finals last season if a few more balls had bounced their way (bring on the attacks). Anyways- i think LA will be really good next season, I'm predicting 51-58 wins and WCF. PS- The reason if any have you have noticed that i've posted like once since june is because my computer broke so I have to hop online at work and my boss doesn't exactly like me doin that... I'll be back for the season
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting bigballer111:</div><div class="quote_post">These comparison do fit in place but I'd rather have the 90-91 bulls team.</div> What!? that team had nothing.

Yet you have them as a couple of balls away from playing in the Finals? Being first-round fodder sucks, but it feels better if you at least face the reality of it instead of indulging in fantasies. It's time to wake up and smell the Starbucks bro Next year however is a different story. And you never want to bet against Phil or Kobe.
Also kobe bryant is no Jordan, odom is no pippen (not even simmilar in style), harper and smush come on that's a big insult, in harpers prime he put up 20 ppg and was amazing in d. The similarities are phil jackson that's it really.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting michiganave17:</div><div class="quote_post"> Okay to day you have CENTERS An old Shaq Brad Miller NeNe Wallace Howard .....and maybe im missing someone </div>
Lol, Yao looks mad. " THEY LEFT ME OUT! " A lot of these posts are making me wonder about a lot of the basketball knowledge you guys have. During the Jordan era witht he Bulls they could and would dominate all the teams in the NBA today. Our Lakers team is no where near the team they assembled so long ago. Not even close.
^^^ Exactly... a team today that has the best CHANCE of beating the Bulls of the 90's in a seven game series is the '06 Suns with Kobe and they'd still fall short.
