Boozer the loser for Murphy could be a wash, IMO. Neither are focussed defensively, but Boozer does play like a true power forward and that helps. The problem is Boozer is way overpaid for the amount of games he's hurt and he's no Baron Davis impact. But Boozer does have a nice mix of power/finesse type skills and this definitely showed in Cleveland and was useful in Utah with shotblockers at center and small forward. He's got the same turnaround jumper that Murphy has in addition to being strong enough to overpower guys in the paint. Like Ike Diogu, Boozer is another one of those guys that people said was too short or too unathletic. Turns out both are underrated athletes with the way they can convert on alley oops and dunk on guys. But skill is skill and at least the two own strength as a big mismatch in their favor. Plus, both can pass maybe 3 assists a game and operate as true college center in a real small lineup. If we had no Ike, Boozer would be a nice skillset to have despite being way way overpaid and questionable motivation and health status. Zach Randolph would be another type of those players. They'd be 20/10 guy without the defensive impact, but great on the offensive glass and high % scoring, but no defensive presence. I think Ike could play post D and block at least a shot per game (despite bad per 48 minute ratings) and if not that, he'll work hard in altering a shot. It's not how many shots are blocked, but how many guys think their shot is about to be blocked, so they start changing their mechanics, their release point, and end up missing the shot. It doesn't help when Murphy has his hands at his side, and there's few others that can help out on weakside D other than Jrich who on occasion can come out of nowhere and swat Kenyon Martin or some other forward trying to score off the dribble. Also regarding Drew Gooden, the guy is a tweener and he sucks outside of rebounding.
I'd trade Boozer for Murphy because I think he'd get a whole lot of dunks served up from Davis. He's actually a decent fit. Not a good or great fit, but a better one than Murphy.
What about Ike? Trade him for Danny Granger? I bet it's too late now though. With a big 20/10 power forward that doesn't block many shots, having a nice SF and C that can cover weakside would be good. Boozer can be pretty inattentive playing perimeter D, though. Even if it's not an all-star game, I can see Boozer getting the ball bounced off his head again.
Also anybody having any buyer's remorse with POB? I mean passing up on Harrington was a good thing, but what about Ronnie Brewer? His dad was an NBA player (so the genes are there), he's got everything, but the shot mechanic which he can't fix. He's also reportedly better with the ball than without which can be a problem to the offensive flow. But I can't help think that if the goal was to win now. This lineup would have made more sense. C: Biedrins or Taft PF: Ike Diogu/Zarko SF: Ronnie Brewer (SG on offense) SG: Jason Richardson (SF on offense) PG: Baron Davis But I guess POB is a smart move if we're looking at a high potential prospect, even though not quite the thick body or high recruitment of somebody like Andrew Bynum. At least POB, like Bynum, has hands, good athleticism for his size, and lots of upside... can't stand big players that can't catch in the paint. They'll cost many a game with such blunders. Besides, later on we may find a better small forward than Brewer in the 18 to 20's range that doesn't have the elbow problem.
Well, it's tough to say. Clearly, POB was and is a logical choice. Our inside is horrendous, and we were looking for an inside presence, who can score inside, rebound and block shot. And, it's extremely hard to find a players from FA or trade that meets our primary needs, not to mention they would cost a bundle. And, top tier of 8 players were all taken. So, in that regard, Mullin did the right thing. POB didn't shine in summer league and showed why he is a project. But at the same time, he also didn't embarrassed himself either, and he got better as the season went on. But then, Bowie over Jordan was a logical choice at that time... Brewer looked pretty good in summer league, and he would have been nice along with Richardson. So, do I have a buyer's remorse? No. At least not now...
I'm actually higher on POB now than I was when we drafted him. The guy has a sick hook, really nice hands and a big body. He seemed to get winded and disinterested very quickly during the summer league, but everyone knew his conditioning would need work. Even if we got Brewer I just didn't see him getting many if any minutes, unless Mickael absolutely sh!ts the bed again like last year. I'm hoping that the knee injury Mickael got during the euro play last summer was really the reason he never got on track, his best asset is as a defender and slasher/finisher and I don't know if he ever had faith in his body last year, and then his confidence disappeared.
Who cares?! Ronnie Brewer was already drafted along with POB. There is nothing WE can do about it anymore. Why even bring up this topic?
Because of the feeling of doooooooom! Oh well. I'm glad we're not overpumping Al Harrington a step above Murphy. Some folks at ESPN and realGM have lost their minds over Harrington for 9-10 mil a year as SMALL FORWARD and losing Murphy! Sometimes, I think we're so fed up with losing that we'll make any trade just so we don't have to look at the same roster as the year before. It's like fans have lost their perspective. Yeah the coaching needs work, the roster needs more work, yeah dunleavy is bad, but man... will Harrington help us with our financial situation and bring us things that Murphy already does and doesn't do? How does this fix Dunleavy's situation if he's playing so poorly to even be a sixth man? Well the upside is we got some good big men for once (as far as we know). The backcourt is pretty much set. I think we got a good chance at inside/outside ball movement, plus we could become better at defense and rebounding the ball. Having big players with good hands and ability to shoot free throws is nice.
At first I was disappointed the W's did not make a move but with the Fisher trade I'm at least satisfied at the start of the season. I'm glad Mully did not over pay for Harrington and would rather walk away. I think with improvement from Dunn, Pietrus and the young core we could see quite an improvement of our record. The W's lost so many games by so few points a little growth could make a differnce and with possible tinkering at the trade deadline could make a huge difference. If the roster remains as is going into this season how to you see the depth chart. Hoopshype had the following and I thought it was interesting. I don't know to much about the three from Utah. http://hoopshype.com/depth_charts_pacific.htm
I've made my opinions clear about this draft.. I really think there's no point complaining as I see the whole lot of them as career backups. POB will be a nice backup center in 2 years, so I'm not dissapointed. I don't think we could've gotten anything better. Honestly, I was hoping we'd trade down because there was nobody in the mid-range picks that was remotely exciting to me
Or trade the pick entirely for somebody good, but I guess that fell through since we needed a center more than we need a small forward. Pietrus + Dunleavy have a chance to rebound from a poor year. So let's hope they rebound or else we're going to be hard pressed to find any consistent offense coming from the wings. Those three Utah guys will probably be pleasant suprises in ballhandling and defense, but not sure if they can shoot.

We're going to get crushed at the hoop. Here's scouting reports on Devin Brown from TSN Here's a basketball simulator game scouting report on Devin Brown Keith Mcleod I heard is supposed to be a little like Ronald Murray. Actually, are these guys supposed to be good defenders??? Maybe they are better now, but... they can handle the ball at least, I hope. Andre Owens, I heard was a hustle point guard. Not sure what he does well, though. I think ShapeCity knows. He said he has some Monta Ellis in him.
