It looks like he's going to sign a 3-year deal. Much more attractive to me than signing Salmons for five.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting azn_iverson:</div><div class="quote_post">you dont understand how happy i am. i thought getting salmons was good, but JONES!! finally our first good dunker since vince!</div> Yeah, because to build a winning team, Toronto needs a big dunker.... Nice signing for the Raptors. As we've seen on so many occasions, size means nothing, the kid can ball, I'd have him on my roster, he averaged 10.6ppg as a backup and is still young with potential to become better, that would be enough incentive to sign him for me.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NTC187:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah, because to build a winning team, Toronto needs a big dunker.... </div> i didnt mean for it to sound that way. i was just happy because im a HUGE fan of watching good dunks and we havnt really had a dunker on our team since vince. it makes me wanna watch games even more because he adds more excitement to games.
all i know is Fred Jones wont win the Defensive Player of the Year anytime soon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4dKTpRRhYM...ch=fred%20jones
How about this line up for next seasons starting five. PG TJ Ford SG F.Jones SF M.Peterson PF C.Bosh C Bargnani or Rasho ...lol
im not sure if parker will start at the beginning of the year. i know he will eventually but im not sure because of the fact he hasnt played much NBA style. he still has to get used to game style of NBA since hes been in europe for most of his career.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Voodoo Child:</div><div class="quote_post">He's decent at hitting the spot up threes but not really off the dribble, and his midrange game still needs a lot of work. Obviously he's a decent shooter overall by some standards. You're not going to be able to survive as a two guard in the NBA without some sort of outside shot, but by NBA standards, his range is limited and his jumper is streaky. Really, I see him as a poor man's Desmond Mason. He's still a decent pickup none the less at this point in the signing period, especially considering that Mike James bolted to Minnesota. My only real concern is when the Raptors play small ball, pairing him with Calderon in the backcourt. Calderon's outside shooting is one of his biggest weaknesses at this point, and without Mike James' shooting to keep defenders honest, the Raps' new backcourt could get exploited.</div> I definately agree, I think for what we want to do though he will work. I don't expect him to be called upon to do too much shooting off the dribble from outside, so that should be fine. One thing we can hope is that Calderon improves that outside shot. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I'd go with: C - Rasho Nesterovic PF - Chris Bosh SF - Andrea Bargnani SG - Morris Peterson PG - T.J Ford Jones shouldnt start I dont think, but he'll definatley see minutes.</div> I'd go with: C - Rasho Nesterovic PF - Chris Bosh SF - Anthony Parker SG - Morris Peterson PG - T.J Ford Bargnani and Jones will come off the bench. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">all i know is Fred Jones wont win the Defensive Player of the Year anytime soon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4dKT...h=fred%20jones</div> Like already mentioned, he's actually a good defender, and even good defenders get crossed up. You ever watched the one of Tmac making Kobe fall with a fake, or Raja getting crossed up by Wade etc...
starting lineup ford (32 mpg) mo.pete (36 mpg) parker (30 mpg) bosh (39 mpg) rasho (22 mpg) sixth man-fred jones kris humpries caledron bargnani (15 mpg) btw, bargnani looks awful in summer league aside from his scoring ability.

So, why do you think Colangelo's first option was Salmons? That's the question that's been bugging me recently.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chutney:</div><div class="quote_post">So, why do you think Colangelo's first option was Salmons? That's the question that's been bugging me recently.</div> i was reading on hoopsworld.com this article about how salmons was his first choice due to his ability to be a playmaker. another reason his first choice was salmons was because of his versatility to play the 1,2 and 3. EDIT: Heres the Link http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_18210.shtml <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While Jones is a high-flying spark off the bench he is not the playmaker Salmons proved to be last season, especially when filling in for the injured Allen Iverson. Salmons can play both backcourt positions as well as small forward while Jones is more or less a shooting guard. There are sparks of rebounding and defensive prowess from Jones but Salmons was more fitting with general manager Bryan Colangelo’s desire to add versatile playmakers at every position. </div>
If that's the case, I think Jones' fit with this team is being a bit overblown. We're not going to be the Suns of the East. People say it a lot, but I don't think it's true. Colangelo's building a somewhat similar team, but seems to be focusing more on versatility than quickness. And he recognizes that he has to build around the strengths of Chris Bosh, not Amare or Steve Nash. I think Salmons had a chance to be a starter on this team, while Jones will most likely be a role player. The only reason I'm not that bummed about how it went out is because of the different contracts.
Salmons when playing PG has also been quite turnover prone, and his playmaking is there, but not really as good as they're making it out to be. So I think we'll survive.
