I've put some money aside from my work to finally buy a decent mp3 player. I've usually just stuck to CD's, so I really don't know what's out there and what's worth my money. Was originally thinking of just grabbing an Ipod, but then some people recommended mp4's and a whole bunch of other things, so I don't know anymore. Does anybody have any recommendations/opinions? Money isn't that huge of a concern, but I really don't know what the standard price is out there. Also, I'm not really looking for video players and all that other crap. Mainly music. Thanks.
if ur not looking for video just get like a nano its small and its just music. but it also matters how many songs u wanna put on cause u can always get a decent one but the size wont be that great
Ya, it depends how many songs you want to get on there. If you don't want like 7,500 songs, then I'd just get a regular I-Pod BTW--What the hell is a MP4?
Get the iPod video. It's the sh*t. I have one and there's nothing to dislike about it. You have to convert the videos to mp4 for it work on the ipod, but it's really not a hassle since you can find many videos on the web as mp4's, and there are plenty of easy programs out there to convert.

I've been using a Rio Carbon for the last few years and I like it alot. I don't listen to that much music so 5 gb is plenty for me and its pretty cheap compared to Ipod's (which I would never buy because there was close to 40 stolen at my school last year). As for which MP3 player is right for you, it depends on how much music you have/want on it, what you're using it for (i.e. jogging, listening to while traveling, etc.) and what your price range is. Theres obviously alot of different Ipods out there but theres also Creative Labs mp3 players (which I really like), Rio, Dell, etc.
Hey Chutney, seeing how you live in Toronto, my only suggestion would be to go to Canada Computers in Pacific Mall. The mp3 players there are a lot cheaper than other store, including Wal Mart. And they're brand name players, not a bunch of no-name brands. Anyways, I just got a 1gb rca mp3 player there a few months ago for $110, whereas in other stores like The Source or the Bay, they were selling the exact one for around $200. Here's a link to their mp3 player selections and prices. CanadaComputers is not as reliable as Best Buy or FS IMO though. Chutney, how much music do you have? Are you very active with an MP3 player (ie jog)? Do you care about battery life? Scratches? Sound quality? It's easy when buying an MP3 player to just see iPod and think of it as the shiznit. Fact is there are a lot of other players out there with the same functionality as the iPod and one-ups it. I have four MP3 players from different generations and different sizes, and all of them are better than iPods. If you want to stand out amongst the crowd of white headphones, look elsewhere. Creative, iRiver and Samsung all have some very solid MP3 players. I myself just bought one two weeks ago.
Thanks a lot for all the feedback guys. So I guess mp4 just mean videos as well. Didn't know. I just want music though. I tend to download songs in bunches, and I have a lot. I had an early Rio one (200 something MB's) that I was happy with. However, I'm kinda clumsy and I dropped it and broke the screen. It kept on working for a while, but eventually stopped completely. My main concerns with an mp3 player are size and battery life. Is there a big difference in sound quality between brands? I don't really know. I would like it to be fairly durable, but I intend to be far more careful with it this time and probably won't use it for jogging or anything. So yea, battery life and size are the most important things for me. And thanks for the info dunksworth. I'm focusing more on the exact one I'm going to get right now. But when I go to buy it, I'll definitely be comparing prices. Again, thanks a lot for the help.

I had one of the original ones, and that thing took a nice beating and never broke. I even had a flood in my apartment one day, and it sat, submerged in soapy water for a few hours without breaking. If you're clumsy, you probably need the most reliable one you can get. I'd go with an ipod. Unless you want to be like my friends and go with something else first. When you break that, you'll end up with an ipod anyway.

But yah, mine is a rca lyra but it's tiny and fairly new. That probably explains why mine cost more for less memory.... Oh and keep in mind that I'm paying Canadian dollars so it'll be a little more than what you'd pay.
Ok what is exactly MP4?? Is it the file types for music or is it the actual thing meaning the player posted in pic above?? so is it file types for music or the player itself??
