George on the way: The Mavericks are working on details of a contract that will lock up former Los Angeles Laker Devean George. The 6-8, free-agent forward was a vital part of the Lakers' championship teams with Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. That experience is what has the Mavericks excited about the possibility of landing him with a veteran's minimum contract, about $1.2 million, guaranteed. The Mavericks on Monday finalized the trade that brings backup point guard Anthony Johnson to the team for Darrell Armstrong, Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall. Even if Powell and Marshall are waived by the Pacers, they will not be returning to Dallas, apparently. The Mavericks, according to Johnson, believe that a veteran with NBA Finals experience will better serve them at this point than young projects. George would fit that billing.
Man, if this goes down, only Kobe will be left from the glory days... oh well, time to make new memories.
Uh, take George. We really don't need him. He doesn't contribute much anymore. It was nice to have him in his hay day, but he never panned out like we expected him to.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting YourNewChef:</div><div class="quote_post">He was good when he got the touch, but I havn't seen much of that this season.</div> Yeah, that hand injury really killed it. I remember him during the Heat christmas game and he was tearing it up when he came in. He hit like 3 clutch 3's in a couple peoples faces. But like Flashback and Trench said, time to move on and make new memories.
George helped the Lakers in Game 4 versus the Suns with those clutch 3's(in that small span of minutes), but that's really it for recent times.

We should have never extended Gump in the first place, especially not for the entire MLE. I'm glad to see him gone, but I think the Lakers need to find an athletic SF to replace him.

Jeffries isn't a selfish player, but he knows what he's worth. Teams are low-balling him right now because his offensive game isn't something you dream about. But when it comes to defense, he's everything you want. He's likely to sign the one year qualifying offer the Wizards extended, so next year he can be an UFA.
