I keep hearing rumors of how Mihm is going to be traded or how people want to trade Mihm for another big man or another guard. Could someone please explain to me, why? I honestly believe that if Mihm had been healthy in the playoffs, we would've beaten the Suns. He may not have the explosive nights that Kwame had, but he was consistent and he can catch the freaking ball. He had a 70 something percent free throw percentage. Also, for a big part of the season, he was the Lakers second consistent scoring option. Even if they want to work on Kwame, Mihm would be a great backup (especially since Phil won't play Bynum). Why are they trying so hard to get rid of Mihm?!
Nobody is saying Mihm is a bad player. He actually is one of my favorite Lakers. The guy has really improved last season, and was one of our most consistent players on offense. I really think that if he stops getting all these phantom fouls, he can put up pretty big numbers. The thing is, nobody wants to get rid of Chris Mihm, it's just that he is one of our best trading pieces. The guy is a top 15 center, and he has an expiring contract. With the way players are getting paid these days, Chris is probably looking for a big pay day next off season, and I'm pretty sure nobody in the organization will want to overpay him. So, in that case, it is better to just trade him away rather than losing him for nothing.
Mihm is great. I like him as a player. But as in the post above, his contract is expiring and he is one of the best trading pieces we have at this point.
His contract is expiring. He's going to ask for much more money than we're willing to pay him. Put those together, you trade him so you can get some value for him.
Maybe we should trade him if his health is as iffy as some have said anyway. I respect the guy though.
Right now Mihm's value is at an all-time low. If we trade him, it'll be around the deadline. We need to give him an opportunity to build his value back up, the ankle injury all but killed it.
It's a tough decision, but the Lakers are counting on Kwame and Bynum to be the frontcourt duo in the near future. Mihm is a solid center, but he's going to draw a lot of suitors in the free agent market and will be too, expensive for the Lakers to retain. Paying $7 to $8 Million for him to be your 3rd center on the depth chart doesn't make sense. I thought Mihm had a great year last season and was our second most consistent player on the roster behind Kobe. Unfortunately, he injured his ankle, but the silver lining was Kwame embracing the center position and finding a role on the team. The Lakers hold all the cards now and need to be patient with Mihm. His value is going to be low because of the injury and teams who want aren't going to give up much, knowing he's a free agent next summer. Most teams are more likely to hold out and try to pull off a sign and trade later on. Another reason to be patient with Mihm is to allow Bynum to develop more and to avoid being thin at Center if Kwame or Bynum get injured.
Who is to say he is going to ask for that much money. As of now his contract is smaller than Browns. To me Mihm doesn't seem like the money hungry type of guy. I hope he stays and if he does unfortunately get traded then I hope we get good in return and not get shafted.
Well, considering how guys these days are getting paid, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mihm get a 7 or 8 million dollar contract, like Shape said.
He'll get paid just because of his height alone. Take note of Adonal Foyle, Erick Dampier, and Danny Fortson. Three extremely overpaid guys...but...they're all big guys. Centers and PFs nowadays are overpaid like no other just because of the lack of quality big men. Another couple notables would be Nene, who missed all of last season, and Tyson Chandler, who is nothing more than a poor mans Ben Wallace.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">and Tyson Chandler, who is nothing more than a poor mans Ben Wallace.</div> Dang....all this Tyson Chandler hating.... Anyway call me crazy but I don't think he'll be overpaid.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">Anyway call me crazy but I don't think he'll be overpaid.</div> Then your crazy. Do you have any idea how much money free agents are getting paid these days? Another example is Nene. He got paid, I believe, 60 million. What has he ever done in his career to guarantee that much money?
Dampier Speaking of overpaid, Dampier is sort of overpaid but he was second in Rebounds per minute last year. Very effiecient rebounder at least.
