Now that it seems more than likely that AI will return to the Sixers next season, what does everyone expect out of Andre Iguodala? As you all might now, he is terrific on defense and has deadly athleticism. His weakness is his aggressiveness on offense. At times, the guy will score 15 or 20 points, and the very next night come out with only 6 or 8. I really hope next season Andre steps up on the offensive end, and helps AI with the load. Andre, IMO, has talent to be an all star, but he has to get himself together and realize that he has the ability to take control of the offense, and he must execute. I was sort of disappointed with him last season, since he didnt improve as much as I had hoped stat wise (http://www.justbball.com/forums/showthread...gression+Stats). Anyways, next season, hopefully his numbers will look something like this:

    PPG: 14
    RPG: 5
    APG: 4
    SPG: 2

with his talent and athletisism he should be getting something like 17ppg 6 rbs, and 4 assts, along with 1.5stls. but the system hes in and his confidence constricts his play

I don't think its the system or his confidence, I think its more along the lines of Iverson. I think that Iguodala can easily reach Richard Jefferson type numbers and play a lot like VC(outside shot with the option of finishing strong near the rim).

I had huge expectations for Iguodala this past season, but he failed to live up to them. I am going to predict around the same numbers I did last season I think if he comes back looking to score, and be aggressive on the offensive end he will average at least 16 points a night. As far as rebounds and assists go I think he will grab about six rebounds a game, and five assists.

I don’t see it that way from the games I watched (all of em) whenever AI and Webber where on the court the other players would give them the ball and get out of the way. I saw many opportunities for other guys to get involved, but whenever AI would give them the ball they would not even hesitate in passing it back. They need to be more aggressive that is the problem.

^^I have seen the same thing, players are too timid around ai. That is why he works so well with vets. They are amazed by him, and are assertive.

I dont understand it 6'0 165 lbs and is a scoring machine that no one can shut down completely because of his driving capabilities. Such an inspriation to us all but , still at times his teammates have no sign of life.

Well then maybe if its because of the rest of the team not being assertive enough, cheeks needs to put his foot down and start asserting them. if they dont want to shoot then get a guy in who does. Cheeks needs to make sure that enough plays are being called for iggy and korver to shoot the ball. a couple times last season i saw a play where igoudala posted up on the right block and scored easily. i think they ran the same play for korver too, but he just did a turnaround jumper while iggy drop step slammed it on someone. korver and igoudala are actually pretty versitle if they are put into situations where they have to be.

Dre has broken out yet, because the 76ers don't have a true playmaker that can take his game to the next level. Dre has shown flashes, but when AI and C webb are shooting close to 50 shots a night its hard for other players to get theirs on Offense. Also when they get the ball they are prone to settling for jumpers.

If everyone wants the young guys to develop, they need to be given more opportunities, even if they aren't coming through with those opportunities. You have to fail first to suceed.

But if you look at it Dre did get better, he is slowly getting better. On offense he added a couple dimensions to his game by improving his outside jumper. Dre will slowly continue to grow until he finallly gets the hang of it. Consistency is the key. Iguodala just needs to focus on being consistent and the game will come to him. I tihnk he has done a fair job of letting the game come to him, but at the same time he needs to be more aggressive.

Andre has never been a scorer, even in college where he could've been one, so I don't think he'll actually ever be a first option type scorer. I still see Richard Jefferson attributes in him, with possibly better playmaking. His iso game is as a scorer is not that polished yet IMO, he's still a guy that is best feeding off others. Jefferson has the ability to play the iso game, which is why he can combine that and feeding off others to average ~20 PPG.

I was a little dissapointed in his improvements from his rookie season to 05-06. This coming season I'm expecting something like 14-15 PPG, ~6 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.8 SPG, playing 38 MPG.

Andre has the potential to put up 15 a game. He gets enough touches, but that's not the kind of player Iguodala was even at his days in Arizona. He's the type of player that will make an impact in other ways.

That being said, I wouldn't expect more then 14 points a game from him. Hopefully he can get his assists up a little more and turn into a guy that will eventually give you 15-7-5 every night...

He's not going to get 5 APG with both Iverson and Webber on the team, unless someone's role is decreasing. To get 5 APG, you need the ball in your hands, Iguodala just isn't likely to have the ball in his hands enough to be able to do that.

I like the leadership type role he slowly played with late in the season while they was making a push for the Playoffs. I don't know if anybody realized it but he seems to put himself more out there. His stats wasn't really much different but if you watch the game he would assert himself more. And in the final game of the season he took it upoin his hands to be hte #1 scorer, so that's just a sign that he has the mentality to take control and charge when need be. Hopefully he understands behind Webber and AI the rest of the guys follow his move. And hopefully taking that into consideration he will be consitently be more assertive and just elevate his game. AI PLEASED for Iggy to be aggressive and Iggy did so. It's just so frustarting how talented somebody can be but they just need that kick in the ass to wake them up. I believe if the Sixers did more off the court stuff together they would be a MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH better team.

I've said this before, this team is talented and we COULD compete with the East's best. Yes a little tweaks is NEEDED and out bench is a little weak, but for the most part, if you look at our starting 5 we have... great player makers, perimeter defense(Iguodala and Carney), shooting, experience, slashing, scoring, rebounding, shot blocking, speed, length, swagger etc etc. We have all the right forumlas to win but the problem is that everything I mentioned these guys do it for themselves and not together as a unit if they can bring all their skills together and function as a unit and communicate we could be a very dangerous team. And going back to my point of them HAVING to do off the court things together, well it's just important. That's why the Pistons were what they were because those guys were like best friends, they udnerstoof each other and had a special bond and when their on the court they all had each other back. If the Sixers can share that type of unity the effort and willingness to win will come. One of our main probs last year was defense and it wasn't necessairly because we was bad it's just the effort wasn't there.

I'm sure I've called you crazy before. The simple and easy way you win with Iverson is if you surround him with defensive minded players; players that don't have to score to be effective. What we have on the court now are four players (Iguodala, Iverson, Webber, and Carney) that need to have the ball in their hands to be effective. When we made our championship run we had one player that needed the ball in his hands and that was Iverson.

With all that being said I do agree with you with our main problem being defense and part of that is Mo's fault. He needs to get up in these guys' face when they don't play defense, and I think we saw that a little bit late in the season when he started taking out Iverson, Webber, and Dalembert at times for not playing D.

In my mind, if we go to battle with these troops in the start of the season, Mo has to make some things clear. (1) Everyone plays defense or else you're benched, simple as that. (2) Make Webber more of a passer out of the high post. Limit his shots to around 8-10 a game and just feed him the ball in the high post to work our offense through him. (3) Get Iguodala and Carney involved in the offense early and often. (4) Limit Iverson's shots to 18-20. I've said the "simple" way to win with this team would be to surround Iverson with defensive minded players but I'd be fine if we all shared the rock this year...

This team has so much potential. It would be nice to see them live up to it because everyone on this team is a really good basketball player. They just dont utilize their strengths and work together enough.

But the fact is that the simple way is NO way. Yes, it would be simple if we put a bunch of defensive nobodies around AI like in 01 but we don't have that. We have to run with what we got, and that's with guys like Webber who needs the ball and Iguodala who should be getting the ball more. So all in all, we just need to find away to bring them together. If the offense can be spread more then the defense will come. It was very evident in Iverson absence early on. Look our problem was never offense, but the fact that when everybody got more touches and looks they were willing to give effort on defense. And the only way everyone can be happy on offense is if they play as a team. I just can't stress enough on hte importance of how much coming together will be vital for this team. The talent is MOST DEF there because I've seen much less talented teams do better than what we did last year, it's just all about coming together and working as one.

I don't think Dre needed to be woken up for him to be more agressive. He just has the mind set that he has to defer to Iverson and Webber.
