<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Los Angeles Lakers have become the first NBA team in history to own an NBA Development League team. The Lakers wanted to give their fans an opportunity to name the team with an online naming contest and fans selected the name LOS ANGELES D-FENDERS.

The Los Angeles D-FENDERS will play their home games at STAPLES Center the same arena as their big brother team the Los Angeles Lakers. The D-Fenders games will take place either pre or post Lakers home games. "The D-League has been instrumental in helping improve the quality of play in the NBA and we are thrilled to be the first NBA franchise to own a team in the Development League," said Jeanie Buss, Executive Vice President Of Business Operations for the Los Angeles Lakers. "I am so pleased that our devoted fans participated in the online naming contest and voted for the winning name the Los Angeles D-FENDERS."

The general manager and head coach for the team will be announced later this summer.

Yeah but we disappeared past game 3. Game 4 was just a lot and I mean A LOT of clutch plays by Kobe, Parker, and Walton.

Besides Sasha, and maybe Smush, tell me who else deserves to be on a D-League team.

Thats a solid sarting 5 right there, but plenty of teams could claim that.

Ronny deserves to be on our active roster. Just ask any Laker fan. Wafer isn't even signed on our team, from what I believe, and although Bynum may not be a superstar, he is tall and in the limited minutes last season, he has proven he can block and alter shots. Plus, he scored 21 points against the Knicks. That's not half the roster.

Really? Because then we couldn't have made the 7th seed in the west, and gave the Suns a run for their money.

My bad, take Smush off the list. He may be criticized, but he is a solid player. All he has to do is play with more heart, which can be easily accomplished with players like Farmar pushing him for the starting spot.

If this were true, then that makes Kobe look that much better for getting them into the playoffs. The insult isn't valid anyway.

So? Just because it's the Knicks doesn't mean crap. They are still an NBA team with NBA talent, and for an 18 year old kid to do something like that is still special no matter which way you look at it.

i just meant that plenty of nba teams have d league quality players, they are the ones who didnt play much. And as much as i loved how th elakers almost beat the suns, you guys need to stop dwelling on it, you were up 3-1 or 2 and choked. Hopefully you guys can maked i to the second round next year. I am pulling for you [IMG]

the GOAT34, don't come in here baiting Laker fans. If half of our team belongs in the D-leauge, then does half of the Raptor squad belong on an 8th grade middle school team? We made it farther than you guys, we had the Suns on brink of elimination. Don't knock us, don't bait us, if you do, stay out of my forum. Plain and simple.

Back on topic, I think this is a horrible name. Since when have we shown sides of defense outside of Kwame, Kobe, and occasionally Lamar? I voted, I forgot the options, but this was my least favorite.

    Thread opened.

The name doesnt matter to me. I think its a great addition to one of the most successful franchises in NBA history. Good for the fans. More bang for our buck since we get to watch a pre-game D-league game before a Laker game.
