The Washington Wizards will have seven days to decide whether to match the offer. The terms of the offer were not disclosed.

Jeffries has long been coveted by Isiah Thomas, New York president of basketball operations and head coach. Like Jeffries, Thomas starred at Indiana University.</div>

Washington will probably match the offer, but this is the right move by Isiah.

Wow, didn't know we were offering him 30 million. Still, if James is making that much, no reaons why he can't.

Terrible contract offer from the Knicks, Jeffries is worth half that at most. If I'm the Wizards I'd definitely let him go for $30M.

He turned down a bigger offer from the Wizards before? He should have taken that. Because now the Wizards can match it and get him for less. But, it's still a lot of money.

I can't say I'm certain the Wizards will match the offer. Jeffries isn't bad, he's a good defender and rebounder (more offensively) for a SF/PF, and he's a versatile guy that can give you some ball handling. His shooting is quite depressing though, if he ever learnt to shoot he'd be a much more impressive offensive player, but his offense is not really much. He can pass decently well too.

The money is obviously too much for the ~6-7 PPG and 5 RPG Jeffries brings, but from the Wizards POV, his defense and extra ball handling is badly needed on the team. With him, Jamison hardly ever had to matchup agaisnt the quicker PF's, and he even took SF duty at times on the bigger ones, though Caron did well there, so that was okay. I personally think he should be let go, too much money, doesn't seem he wants to come back, and he's not a true game changer. All the team would be doing is paying to be OK.

^^ I think the Wizards are better off developing Andray Blatche than matching the offer from Jeffries. I saw some clips of Blatche in the SPL, he's really improved from last season and has a lot of upside.

It's going to be tough for the Wizards to lose him, since he's an important role to their team. I don't see really see a replacement for Jeffries, unless like Shape said, Eddie Jordan can develop Andray Blatche and give him more playing time this season.

If the Wizards do let Jared Jeffries go though, be prepared to see Ernie Grunfeld make another move. But, they should just match that offer, to be safe and stick with the squad they have now.

He doesn't want to play for the Wizards. His agent is quoted as saying that Jeffries wants to move on. He turned down a 6 year, $33 million dollar offer from the Wizards. He has asked the Wizards to not match the offer. He wants to continue his career in NY. I wouldn't be surprsied if the Wizards let him walk.

I wouldn't say he has improved, I'd say he's gotten a chance. To start his rookie campaign out, Blatche was shot in the chest and the wrist in an attempted car jacking. That really killed his shot at having anything last year. This year, he's healthy, and he's getting to show what he has.

This may sound crazy, but I think Bulletproof (Blatche's fan given nickname) will be as solid, or even better than Jeffries is by the end of the year.

I don't think it'll be tough at all. He brings defense to a non-defensive team. He's the only player in the starting lineup who will give you consistent defense. In a lineup like that, his defense isn't as valuable as it would be elsewhere, a team that focuses on defense. The Wizards are gunning for an offensive style of winning, such as the Mavericks and the Suns. Losing Jeffries will be easy to replace in such a situation.

Blatche will be seeing a lot more time this seaso. He's being set up as Caron Butler's backup, so he'll see a lot of floor time.

Grunfeld is going to make a run for Bonzi Wells, I just have a feeling.

I don't think Bulletproof can give what Jeffries does in terms of defense, ball handling and rebounding, but he is much better offensively, at least it seems like he is.

I don't agree. While we're looking to score, you still have to defend a little. Many teams in the league can score, so unless your scoring is simply amazing, you can't just expect to win with that alone. The Wizards don't have enough firepower around the team to just rely on scoring, we basically only have 3-4 scorers. Daniels is there, but he isn't a "true" scorer, and Hayes is injured all the time anyways.

Without Jefferies defense at PF last season, we would've lost at least 3 more games because some other PF's would've just easily owned Jamison. Also his versatility offensively being able to play SG on offense and PF on defense allowed for us to incorporate Butler into the offense better. It also pulled out one of the opposing teams big men because they didn't want to put a big on Butler.

    I don't get it.

To sum up my exact thoughts, read below:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
The Knicks presented an offer to restricted free agent Jared Jeffries, signing him to a deal the Wizards can choose to match worth about $30 million over five seasons. Since the Knicks are over the luxury tax threshold and will have to pay a tax on his contract as long as they remain over the limit, in actuality it?s like they signed Jeffries to a five year, $60 million offer.

Jeffries is a nice player, with a lot of size and the ability to play everything from the five to the two, but why sign a guy like this when you already have Channing Frye, David Lee, Reinaldo Balkman, Jalen Rose, Eddy Curry, Jerome James, Jamal Crawford, Quentin Richardson, Malik Rose and Maurice Taylor at those positions?

Unless you?re going to move one of those guys and get nothing back in return, it makes absolutely no sense. This doesn?t even address signing Jeffries to a deal that?ll cost you over $10 million a year, which isn?t anywhere near his actual value</div>

i think this is a good move other than the fact that they over payed him adn have players at that position because almost every knicks palyer is offensive minded they finally get a defensive minded player

I think it's fair to say that Isiah is trying to sabotage the Knicks. Has anyone noticed that Balkman's strengths are the same as Jefferies'? This makes the drafting of Balkman look more stupid. The Knicks aren't going to be under the luxury tax threshold for a while, so this signing raises some eyebrows to me considering the huge price they're going to pay for the signing.

This roster is so packed with players of the same position who are ALL (yes, every single one of them; except maybe the sophs and rookies) overpaid players that it's hard to imagine an equal distribution of playing time among all of them that will end up satisfying everyone. Furthermore, if Zeke ends up NOT playing a certain guy, you can always ask, "then why the hell did you pay _____ million (usually above 10-20 of course) to get him?"

What a shame such a legacy-filled team is being run by a bunch of morons.

And to fill in Tribute 2 H2O's line:

Anyway, I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

Bingo. Knicks are nutty. Wiz would be foolish to match. 6 mill a year for a guy who probably gives you 9/6 a night, tops? No thanks.

While you may have valid points, I think you're wrong on Blatche's ball handling. He came into the league as a PF, with the ability to play SF. Now, Blatche has evolved his game into a SF with the ability to play the 4. He has vastly improved his ball handling. In the summer league, he was driving on fella's from the arch and displayed ball handling skills.

No way is Jeffries worth that much money. He doesn't bring a whole lot to the table if you ask me. His offensive game never developed, so he's not going to give you much there. Sure, he's an above average defender...but he's not a game changer on that end of the court. So, to me, because of his offensive deficiencies....that hurts his value. I don't see him worth the $30+mil the Knicks are offering and it'd be really stupid for the Wiz to match that offer, especially if he doens't even want to be there. Go develop Andray Blatche and spend the money elsewhere. Let Isiah waste more money.

You mistook me, by ball handling, I don't mean ability to dribble, there are many guys that can do some crossovers and dribble. What I mean is taking care of the ball, and being trusted as a ball handler. You will not see us using Blatche to run offensive sets or as a secondary ball handler when he's on the court because he will be prone to turnovers. Even in SL he averaged about 4-5 TPG.
