I'll post article in a minute. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Washington Post - According to the Washington Post, league sources have confirmed that the New York Knicks have signed restricted free agent, Jared Jeffries, to an offer sheet this afternoon. Terms of the offer sheet were not immediately available, but the Knicks had their full Mid Level Exception still available meaning they could have offered Jeffries an offer sheet of up to 5 years for $30,247,000. The Wizards will have 7 days to either match the Knicks' offer sheet or let the 11th pick in the 2002 NBA Draft become Isiah's highest profile move so far this offseason.</div> http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/417...to_offer_sheet/ Why in hell would he want to play for that mess of a team?
Most likely because of the money I'm guessing. It's a lot better than the qualifying offer he's recieving from the Wizards at the moment, but the Knicks really offered a lot more than what he should be payed. Only if, Grunfeld can counter attack with signing a guy like Melvin Ely, then I'm fine with it.
Rumors out of the NY post is that the Wizards final offer was 6 years, $33 million. The thing is, Jeffries doesn't want to play in Washington anymore. His agent has been quoted as saying that Jeffries knows the Wizards have the right to match, but he'd like it if they didn't. Jeffries feels that his career is better suited in NY than Washington at the moment. By the looks of it, if Jeffries doesn't want to be here, don't waste the money on him. I say we try to acquire Bonzi Wells. Knowing Ernie Grunfeld, that's a very likely possibility.
If he wanted to be here, he would've signed a deal for what he's worth, about 15 million. He's not worth the MLE, and he turned down more than the MLE from Washington. I'm all for letting him walk, I think he's easy to replace.
Bringing in Bonzi Wells wouldn't be bad at all. It brings in another scorer we need, puts Caron Butler to his natural spot, and settles Antonio Daniels on the bench. With Bonzi on the team, it'll expand our offense, he can run the break, and do some dirty work out there.
yea i think hes not worth that money hes a decent role player hes not worth that type of money but i guess if salmons got it (even though salmons is somewhat younger) you guys will proabably get a player of his calibar, its like last year when they lost hughes but got butler who had a better season anyway
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Isiah Thomas and Jared Jeffries are doing everything in their power to convince the Washington Wizards not to match the five-year, $30 million offer sheet Jeffries signed with the Knicks on Friday. owever, there are several factors that weigh heavily in the Knicks' favor. By matching the contract, the Wizards would put themselves dangerously close to the luxury tax threshold of $65.4 million. Also, Jeffries has made it known to Washington management that he would prefer to play for the Knicks.</div> http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...0p-369988c.html If I was Ernie, I wouldn't put the Wizards in that position close to the luxury cap. Also, if he doesn't want to play, this is Ernie's easiest chance, so he won't have to deal with Jeffries during the season and cause a distraction for the team.
Isiah's making this hard for the Wizards to even match it. Rumors are that he's given Jeffries a trade clause and 80% of his annual salary before the season starts. Let him go.
