Atkins will likely agree to a two-year deal and will help backup Damon Stoudamire, who's hoping to return from knee surgery. Atkins will also serve as a mentor to rookie Kyle Lowry, who will be the third-string point guard.</div>

I'm sure VC is jumping for joy now that Chucky Atkins is back.

And Flashback, most Grizz fans would see this as a bad thing. Atkins is a poor decision maker, takes defensive posessions off, and thinks he's our main option on offense --- more or less everything you don't want out of your point guard.

Aside from Atkins' game though, I just don't see the logic in this move in terms of the Grizzlies' rotation. Damon Stoudamire is apparently near 100% health, they just signed Junior Harrington, and they drafted Kyle Lowry. Who is going to play where? Stoudamire, if healthy enough, is most likely going to be our starter, Junior Harrington was a starter for the Nuggets back in '03, Lowry's talented enough to step into consistent minutes right away, and Chucky Atkins started 39 of 43 games for the Grizz last season, so you know the coaching staff likes him.

I wonder if they're looking to move Stoudamire, because he's never really played less than 32-35 mpg on a season, but with the way our point guard rotation looks now with Atkins having been resigned, I just can't see a scenario where he'd get more than 20-25 mpg.

What is he going to mentor him on, how to not play defense and take bad shots and make bad decisions? There's nothing Chucky Atkins can really help Lowry with at this point. I watched Chucky a lot when he was with the Lakers, and all he really is is an undersized (extremely) shooting guard that won't play defense. He doesn't bring much to a team outside of a streaky, inconsistent outside shooting touch. There's nothing he can teach Lowry....at all, in my opinion at least.

He's not the best playmaker out there but he's not too bad as second or third pg. I like our point guard rotation but we need a more defensive minded point.

I rather have him than bobby jackson.

I disagree on both comments. He is bad as a second or third point guard because of what a liability he is on both ends of the floor. It's not just the fact that he's selfish but also the fact that he's a poor decision maker who will make costly errors at crucial stages of the game. Bobby Jackson may have also been shot-happy, but at least he had somewhat decent shot selection.

Chucky coming back isn't a great move. Should've left him back in the FA pool. Doesn't have strong defense and lacks a better passing game to be coming back to the Grizzlies. Also the Jet roasted him on both sides of the court.
