<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Washington Post - The Washington Wizards are expected to receive a copy of the offer sheet that restricted free agent Jared Jeffries signed with the Knicks on Friday, and will have until next Monday to match if they want to retain the forward's services. Jeffries representatives, however, are pleading that the Wizards let their client go.

"We signed the offer sheet with the intention of playing with the New York Knicks ," Miller said. "We hope that the Wizards respect Jared's wishes and allow him to move on with his career."

According to sources, the New York offer contains a couple of provisions that could make it more difficult for the Wizards to match, including an up-front payout of $6.5 million and a hefty trade kicker if Jeffries is traded.

Wizards owner Abe Pollin, President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld and Coach Eddie Jordan have all indicated a desire to retain Jeffries.

According to the Washington Post, the Wizards have room under the league's luxury tax threshold ($65.4 million) to match the Knicks' offer.</div>

Does he know he's going to the ugliest situation in basketball today? Does he know that his minute probably will be down. Does he know that the crowd is going to ride him because of his no offense? Let him walk, like I've said before, I think he's easy to replace.

Jeffries is a very young man. It's in the best interest of his agent and possibly Jeffries to have success in the biggest Pro Market. That would traslate into a Max Deal in 3 years. But he will have to succeed where few have been succeeding lately. He knows the Wizards game. What does he know about NY other than that it easily ranked as the highest paid and among the worst 3 franchises in the NBA. The Wizards have Arenas, Jamison and Butler and now Songaila and a couple of great athletes. Jeffries would make the Wizards a strong Finals contender. NY can't be completely ignored, but name a single
player other than Channing Frye who received accolades last year. Marbury, Stevie Franchise, Jalen Rose, and other former stars at other teams 5 years ago are not going to win more that .500 games.

I don't understand why he's acting like this pleading Washington not to re-sign him. Does he have any idea what he's getting himself into in the Knicks?

I never liked Jeffries, every time I watched the Wiz, it seemed like he screwed up something... and he should have plenty of fun fighting for minutes against Rose, Richardson, Balkman, Lee, Frye...

Wow, what is Jeffries thinking. The Wizards should let him walk. No need to match if he doesn't want to play for them. I don't get why he would want to go from a playoff team where he knows he will get his minutes to one of the worst teams in the league where he will have to fight to get time. It obviously isn't the money because he will get the same with either team. It wont be hard replacing him. Wizards can get Stevenson or maybe even Bonzi.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">New York Post - Two sources close to Ernie Grunfeld told The New York Post on July 19 that the Wizards GM was confident forward Jared Jeffries would return to Washington because Grunfeld planned on matching any mid-level offer and did not foresee another team surpassing that reasonable price.

A third source within the Wizards organization confirmed yesterday Grunfeld hoped to match the Knicks' offer for the full $5.2 million mid-level exception. Across five years, that's $30 million. The Wizards would still be under the luxury-tax threshold, meaning they wouldn't have to pay double that amount like the Knicks.

Grunfeld did not return phone calls yesterday, but confirmed the offer sheet signed Friday has arrived.

"We have received an offer sheet and we have seven days to respond," Grunfeld said in a statement.

The Wizards recently offered Jeffries a comparable six-year, $33 million pact. The only slight glitch would be if Miller convinces Grunfeld that Jeffries will be miserable playing for the Wizards.

But that does not seem to be the case. Jeffries had a good conversation with the Wizards brass since the signing, according to his agent.

Miller has been outspoken on Jeffries' wish to play for the Knicks, but was noncommittal when asked directly yesterday if his client would be unhappy returning to the Wizards.

"That's hard to say," Miller said. "We spent 31/2 weeks trying to get a deal done with Washington. Then we tried what Jared was most comfortable with, his relationship with Isiah Thomas, whom he's known since he was 12. We signed the sheet with intentions of playing for the Knicks."</div>

Yeah, he's not a franchise player or game changer and he didn't get the Wizards to the Finals this year.

Yeah it is, now it's like a toss-up of who gets Jeffries.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sports Illustrated - According to a league source, the Washington Wizards , who recently signed shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson to a two-year contract, will not match the New York Knicks five-year, $30 million offer sheet extended to restricted free agent forward Jared Jeffries last week. As a result, Jeffries will become property of the Knicks on Monday.

The 6-foot-11 Jeffries averaged 6.1 points per game in 77 games (all starts) with Washington and was considered one of the top remaining free agents on the market</div>
