The Oregonian cited two anonymous NBA general managers who say Baron Davis is being shopped for a trade by the Warriors. One GM told the paper that Allen Iverson is still on the trading block, despite the Sixers GM and A.I.?s agent saying last week that Iverson wasn?t going to be traded.

Can someone explain to me why they think Iverson would be an improvement over Baron? Better yet, can someone explain to me why they think Montgomery and Iverson would work better than Montgomery and Baron?

I am willing to give Baron at least 1 more season before even looking into trading him...

IMO he should be averaging 24ppg while Jrich is regulated to 2nd scorer status...

I disagree I think Baron should continue to feed Jason's confidence and leadership ability and allow him to be the leading scorer, while Baron needs to concentrate on getting everyone involved and cutting down his threes ala Tony Parker.

I do agree with giving him another year, no one will give us close to market value for Baron so it's either sink or swim with him this year, hopefully the USA team snub will really motivate him.

He can get that in his sleep, the question is are we going to win some games and make a playoff push?

My thinking as well. Davis IS the PG & needs to get his teammates involved. He will & should score, no doubt. But J Rich should be getting more of the buckets.

I would like to see Baron penetrate more to pass and create for others instead of him trying to finish himself. I don't know how successful the Warriors will be if Baron is the leading scorer. We have some players on this team, if they can play with confidence we will be alright. We have two go-to-guys in the 4th with Jrich and Baron. Bring on the season!

I'd say BD should keep slicin up the D and dishin but when it becomes crunch time he should take over.

IMO Baron is the most Skilled Point Guard if Heathy and will allways get 20 and 8 but this time he will win some games

Baron probably knows if he's healthy, he's still pretty much alone because other Warriors don't catch or finish the play or make the extra move to pass or get a better shot for themselves. Better inside play, more ballhandling and shooting can fix this. Outside of Jrich, we've got some lousy field goal shooters. We also need to designate roles to score inside the paint and get second chance points. If we lose that paint scoring and offensive rebounding capability we're basically not a playoff team.

Without Baron healthy, we're basically like the '04 team that was disastrous. Very little ball movement, guys that can't move with/without the ball, guys inside who can't catch, guys who get swatted by guys a foot smaller.

Warriorfansnc93, I'm not trying to jump on you, I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything:

When was the last time a team with their pg as their leading scorer went deep into the playoffs?

The only one I can think of was Isiah's bad boys. Payton made it to the finals, but Kemp was probably the #1 option on that team. Iverson was a two guard when he made it to the finals. Hardaway was never the #1 option on those Heat teams. Am I forgetting anyone?

    Magic Johnson?

edit: no, Kareem was their leading scorer. Hmm...

Well, if I had to think of any modern player who could do it, I only have four:

1)Dwayne Wade (if he played point)

2)LeBron James (if he played point)

    3)Gilbert Arenas

    4)Baron Davis

obviously LeBron and Wade are tops there, but looking at pure point guard skills, Baron is the best of the bunch IMO -- the dude is friggin walking dynamite

Good point. Like Alley Oop said, Baron was one of them. He was the second leading scorer on his team in 01-02 during the regular season but in the playoffs when Jamaal Mashburn was injured he averaged 22.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, and 7.9 apg (averaged 25 ppg, 9.3 apg and 9 rpg in the first round with 2 consecutive triple doubles to close out the series). The Hornets never got passed the second round though.

That is a good point about Baron. Honestly, I completely spaced about his pre-Warrior days. Their best years were '00-'03 when they averaged about 46 wins a season, and as you said, never got past the second round of the playoffs. But I guess I would say he would be the best since Isiah and Magic.

AlleyOop, I didn't forget about Magic, but I did forget that they made it to an NBA finals after Isiah's Pistons. (I guess I'm off my game today.)
