i hope it's anyone but Nash or Kobe...I don't hate Kobe i just think that your team has to be a pretty good team. So I'll go with Lebron or Wade.

I honestly think Kobe will take it!! But just like last season, it will be very close with Lebron, Nash, Dirk, and maybe even Carmelo & Wade right on his tail. The NBA is in very good hands, there are a lot of great players. But it is kinda early to predict!

Duncan has something to prove. He is 30 so some good seasons left. He will be back on MVP level next year. And for me, he is the most value NBA player of the last ten years.

But if LeBron continues improving his game and stats, there will not be much of a debate.

^^Duncan has being dangerously declining, i highly, highly doubt he has another mvp worthy season, he may not even make it through the whole year.

His PER the last 5 seasons was: 27.0, 26.9, 27.1, 27.0, 23.1. It appears to me that one season isn't enough to completely right him off. He was at an MVP level the previous 4 years, albeit his minutes declined steadily each season.

I think he'll bounce back from last year, probably will again play under 35 mpg. He'll be in the running for MVP, but I expect Nowitzki to get more MVP votes.

^^He is still efficient, but his overall numbers are dropping mainly because he cant take the heavy minutes anymore.

Out of curiosity, I checked the relationship between his per-minute numbers and minutes played for the last 3 seasons, game by game (discarding the few anomolous games where he played less than 15 minutes).

I added the trend lines to get a feel for his tendencies the past couple seasons. The interesting part is what he does when he gets between 35-45 minutes in a game:

The "dip" in his performance goes out further for last season than the previous years. The coincides with your observation that he doesn't handle extended minutes quite as well. At least for last season.

Still, the change in the curve isn't drastic. It could just as easily be accounted for by his plantar faciatis.

Where did you get/How did make those charts? Just wondering. I did not find those charts in your statistical references.

I copied Duncan's game log data (from basketball-reference.com) into Microsoft Excel and made the charts.

I think Dirk's going to take it because like durvasa said team record counts and Dallas is a strong team. If Dirk can make to the finals again I think he has a good chance of getting it. Lebron would be my second pick though.

cool stuff durvasa, and yeah, the planter faciatis is likely the main reason, but to me it just seems like he is slowing down, and will be forced to retire, or turn into a role player in only like 2-3 years. I definatley think this will be his last year as a force in the legue if he is healthy

Finally someone that can appreciate Pierce for the god that he is!!

    Pierce for MVP!!

The lakers are going to be a "pretty good team" or better, but I guess your team has to be better than that and better than a 7th seed lol b/c with everything that Kobe accomplished last yr. (81 pt. game, 62 pt. game in only 3 quarters, winning a scoring title for the first time, last person since jordan to average 35pts. 5rbs. & 4asts. etc......oh and not to mention that he dragged a very inexperienced team into the playoffs in the very tough western conference.) So I don't think they will ever give him the trophy unless the lakers are top 4 in the west.

I honestly think Duncan will get it. We all saw him in the Mavs-Spurs series dropping 30 and 10 on the Mavs. When healthy Duncan is the best bigman in the league. The Spurs never do repeat. Tim Duncan will be on a mission this year. He is the reason that questions my thought of a Miami Heat repeat. Spurs will get the 1st Seed in the West with a healthy Timmy.

It's way too hard to predict. Only thing we can predict is the candidates. With Don Nelson controlling the Warriors I think Baron can become a candidate (not win it though).

Baron in my opinion will not be a candidate. Just not see it happening.

I say it is between Wade, Nash, and Bron if the Cavs win enough games and pull off some stuff magic to make him look like he deserves it.
