Dallas waived Podkolzin, the 7'5, 300 lb Russian.

Too bad the roster's kind of full. He might have been a Yao stopper. Who knows?

Hey what's up Gee_dupe. Thanks for the compliments, man.

I wouldn't mind either of those guys if they come cheap and short deals. It's really taking advantage of them because they could go elsewhere and play for more guaranteed type money like in Europe, but hey they need to prove themselves in the NBA if they want to belong. I believe cheap depth is always good as long as these guys can be somewhat ready to play. I figure most nba centers don't really do much anyway except be intimidating and block shots and dunk it (perfect for Pavel if he can demonstrate ability to rebound, block shots, and avoid foul trouble). Dajaun Wagner would just be another guy to have in case Pietrus or Baron goes down with injuries. It's not the greatest moves in the world, but it would be something in case we need a 7 foot 5 300 pounder or a guy that can create his own shot.

I can't remember, and am too lazy to search for it, but have we talked about aquiring Chris Wilcox? The Sonics could definitely use a guy like Pietrus, but I read somewhere they want an allstar forward in return, Murph is as close as you'll get? His agent says they are looking for a 3 year 24 million deal, which is really high, but short and leaves us with some flexibility. I'm intrigued by it, if we play more up tempo he would be great at filling the lanes and rebounding, he shot very well with the Sonics, and is very young. This guy could break out and fit in very well with us.

Any thoughts? Would the Sonics want Murph? They'd have quite a few honkeys on that front line with Collison, Swift and Murph, but all three are very different.

Yeah, there was some stuff on Chris Wilcox, but how many of us here take that rumor seriously? Sonics are basically in need of the same positions as the Warriors with the whole Rashard Lewis might be opting out rumor and the fact the Sonics have drafted several centers in a row.

We need Wilcox like we need a hole in the head. We need more swing guys while we wait for our PFs and Cs to develop.

However, if we believe in Chris Wilcox's potential to be a Kenyon Martin/Amare Stoudamire type scorer and defender in a running game, then a gamble on him might not be so bad. But then again I thought Darius Miles was going to turn things around and man... just goes to show it can be a flip of the coin with athletes without polished games or questionable work ethic/improvement.

I'm starting to want him more and more, I feel he fits in a lot better with Baron and everybody else. Does he have attitude problems, or was he just stuck playing behind Brand for 3 years, and now, like everyone else wants an unwarranted large payday? Looking at his game by game stats, he really filled it up with the Sonics. I just envision him filliing the lanes and getting great alley oops from Baron or Mike Jr. If he blows up this year with the Sonics while playing for the tender, he'll command a Nene, Al Harrington-type contract next year.

If the Sonics want Murph, I do it, it would be tough to see Murph 3-4 times a year, and I guarantee he would stick it to us, but Wilcox has a chance to be something special with the W's, if he stayed at Maryland another year I have a feeling his NBA career would be a lot different. He would've been drafted by some bad team, who desperately needed at PF and would be averaging close to 18-19 and 9. Make it happen Chris and Rod (or does he really not do anything except for carry MJ and Mullin's jock)

Not so sure about that. I don't think Murphy is the type of player to take games over, especially with Ike around. The team's weakness would be guarding a big guy in the middle, not really watching hovering 3 point shooting forwards. I'd make that deal in a heartbeat and ride it all the way into the playoffs.

Oh no, here we go again with Harrington. I'm afraid Mully is going to get used or worse, sign Harrington to another crazy contract. The key is "the quality of the deal" aka $$$ and a lot of years....

Al Harrington's new agent said he is willing to listen to offers from all teams, making what looked like a done deal for the Indiana Pacers to acquire the free agent now seem uncertain.
But Golden State and Denver have reportedly expressed renewed interest in recent weeks.
"The quality of the deal is the most important element," he said. "We will review and exhaust all meaningful options until a fair deal is reached. A lot hinges on Atlanta, but the period ranges from very soon to a couple of weeks or more."

Man Mullin is proving to be one desperate GM if he's trying to overpay Harrington or Wilcox. I hope Cohan is willing to take a loss in paying luxury tax if Mullin goes ahead and snatches either guy.

Stay the course, figure out where Baron's heart and mind is and don't get tied up in any lengthy and expensive deals which we might be unhappy about later.

Seems like Harrington and Wilcox is the only rumors thus far. Maybe some good trade will come out of nowhere and Mullin is keeping whatever plans he has, close to the vest.

If he gets Wilcox I'd be extremely dissapointed. Harrington would be a good move at the right price. Simply because he balances the lineup out.

I think trading Murphy for Wilcox does help our situation, both salary wise and talent wise. Supposedly the contract he's looking for is 3 for 24 mil, Murph's contract runs two years longer than that and escalates in price up to 11 his final year. I could see Wilcox really fitting in with an uptempo attack, which is the way we should be playing. He definitely wouldn't be a downgrade on the defensive side or rebounding for that matter, he doesn't shoot like Murphy from the outside, but he fills it up around the basket, and I wouldn't be surprised if he developed an Antonio McDyess type turnaround jumper. I actually think, with the caveat that Murphy will be moved, that Wilcox is a better fit than Harrington, at a cheaper price, with much less mileage on him.

I agree. If the deal is murphy for harrington that leaves the W's with Al, MDJ, and Peitrus all sharing minutes at the 3, probably resulting in less minutes for Monta. This will also leave us very thin at the big positions, forcing Foyle and Taft to play heavy minutes. Wilcox will leave the Warriors in a better salary cap situation and provide something they actually need, defense and inside scoring (harrington will probably score more but wilcox will do it inside and fits in much better with our lineup).

Pavel was released? He was my favorite prospect in his draft and I was bummed when GS didn't pick him. I'm glad we ended up with Biedrins though, lol. But dude, if I were a GM I'd seriously look into his situation. He has a medical disorder, as well as some international stipulations on his contract I think. I don't know why Dallas let him go -- it may not be his basketball skills -- but he's like 7'5" and can pass and shoot. He's worth a look IMO.

As much as I don't really like Wilcox I'd rather have him than Harrington as well. If we could get him at 7-8 mil a year for 3 years that would be very good because it wouldn't totally screw us for the next half-decade if he turns out to be the second coming of Dampier. Wilcox isn't a go-to scorer but hes the type of guy who can score alot if given good feeds by his PG because he's automatic around the rim. He and Baron would work well together and I also like that he can move to C so Ike can potentially still start. He's a good rebounder and runs the court like a deer but doesnt block many shots for how athletic he is, I also get the impression his defense isn't very good but I'm not sure about that.

Wilcox and his 8 mils per year for 3 years contract does help capsituaion. However, unless the contract is two years or shoter, it does not solve our biggest financial incoming problem. After two seasons, we are sitting with 5 big contracts with probably very close to luxury tax territory. And, we have to resign Biedrins, Ellis and Taft. That has been said, Wilcox and his contract would be much easier to trade if Wilcox keeps improving. Will Wilcox help this club more than Murphy? It's pretty hard to say, and I don't know much about Wilcox's game. He did manage to score 14.1 pts while shooting nearly 60%. So, he must be doing someting right. However, Sonics is not even willing to ink 24 mils/3 years, which should be a pretty good deal for a young and raw player like Wilcox who is already averaging good numbers. So, there must be more than what those number suggest...

This is a tough situation for us because of the Dun/Foyle debacle and building around a financially heavy backcourt with two duds occupying the other starting positions (SF and C).

Getting rid of Murphy now might or might not be the right time to trade him. One can only speculate how badly Murphy's value actually decreases if Ike is to get more and more minutes at PF. If only we had some flexiblity and breathing room. I wish Murphy could have been traded at the apec of his '05 season but the BYC status and length/size of his contract proved to limit the number of potential moves.

I never saw this happening until Kwan/walker brought up the subject of financial inflexibility in the season of '04 when Mullin (in his GM debut) started going nuts on Foyle/Fish and then finally Murphy/Jrich. The icing on the cake was Dunleavy in '05, but at least he's got some upside to him if he should ever bounce back from a horrible season.

I just think Mullin's vision really centers around his experience as a player and he likes fundamentally sound, shooting type small forwards just like Isiah Thomas likes scoring guards. We just can't win with these sorts of biased mentalities manning the front office. The two just don't bring enough balanced roles in the offense or defense.

I read an article that the Sixers are trying to trade Webber. Would anyone on this board trade for Webber. I know he is old and fragile but it looks like his huge contract is up in two years.
Could this be a way to get rid of Murphy, Foyle if we threw in Zarko?

It's awfully tempting if it meant shedding Foyle. But it probably wouldn't be the best PR move on MUllin's part, and that might be a painful 2 years to watch. Especially if it means Ike has to rid the pine behind C-Webb.

Yeah. Webber move won't be a popular one for sure. Not only he isn't exactly welcome by fans in here, he will get worse. I would make that deal in a heartbeat though for number of reasons, but I don't see 76ers taking both Murphy and Foyle's salary without awful a lot of sweetners...
