<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Premium:</div><div class="quote_post">who knows...if we kept tmac, the raps wouldnt have been able to afford other players that gave us that playoff run in 01. losing t-mac gave us depth, which in the end is what led to our success. </div> Please tell me your not talking about the 150 million we spent on Alvin WIlliams, Hakeem , Jerome Williams and Antonion Davis. Here is a quote from SI "Worst Free Agent Signings Since 1996" <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hakeem Olajuwon, Toronto Raptors, 2001: three years, $17 million Antonio Davis, Toronto Raptors, 2001: five years, $60 million Jerome Williams, Toronto Raptors, 2001: seven years, $40.8 million Alvin Williams, Toronto Raptors, 2001: five years, $35 million This quartet of ill-fated signings set the Raptors back a half-decade. For $150 million, you'd hope to at least get beyond the first round of the playoffs, but the Raptors won only 42 games in the 2001-02 season and lost to the Pistons in the playoffs. Even with Alvin's recent buyout, the Raptors are still paying for these moves.</div> http://si.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery.../content.1.html
I think what everyone forgets is those signings helped us re-ink carter as well ... Don't get me wrong they are still terrible, but having JYD, AD and AW come back at the time was considered an amazing feet for the GM and people were talking about the raptors as the team that had a an outside shot of winning the east.. of course we all know that never happened but who knows maybe without the FA pool there would have been no Carter in Toronto either.
^^ I remember at the start of 2001-2002 season, Bill Simmons had us for his prediction of grabbing the #1 seed in the East... ...such high expectations. Actually, the Raptors were doing well until Carter reaggravated his jumper's knee or whatever. I still remember beating Dallas for the opening game of 2001-2002...ACC was on fire and I felt like we could take the East no doubt.
