<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The status woe By Steve Kerr, Yahoo! Sports August 7, 2006 With the NBA draft in the rearview mirror and the brunt of free agency complete, several teams have to feel frustrated with their inability to make the offseason improvements they had hoped. Teams like the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors. The Celtics, Sixers and Warriors all looked to make changes to their high-salaried, low-achieving rosters, but none of the teams have been able to make significant moves this summer. The Warriors suffered through a disastrous season in 2005-06 despite high hopes for their talented young roster. With a sort of Phoenix Suns style uptempo offense, Golden State was a trendy preseason pick to be a playoff team, but the Warriors never could put it together and hoped to revamp their roster this offseason. But with a host of bad contracts on the books (see: Adonal Foyle, Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy and Baron Davis), Golden State hasn't found many willing trade partners, all of whom are only interested in Jason Richardson. The only way the Warriors will be able to unload any of their bad contracts is to include Richardson in a deal, and they're not interested in doing that. It appears Golden State will have to improve from within, which means Davis has to be the guy to step up. He is incredibly talented but has not proven that he can stay in shape or be a good leader in the league. This has to be the year Davis matures and expands his impact on his team. If not, it will be another long year for the Warriors. </div> http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Ao9g...=yhoo&type=lgns
Mullin, mullin, mullin, this is why you can't put all your eggs in one basket in '04. Now there's no flexibility to make moves because we're so dangerously close to a dump salary mode if things don't improve and we're stuck with all these dumb contracts.
This has to be the year Davis matures and expands his impact on his team. "so you're saying there's a chance" - Lloyd Christmas
That's not an overly informed analysis by Kerr. He says the only way the team can unload any of their "bad" contracts is to include JRich because no one wants the "bad" contracts of Foyle, Dunleavy, Murphy, or Davis. That's wrong. Davis and Murphy have value, but more importantly there are a host of teams that would do business with the Warriors if they would put Beans or Ike on the table. The young GS prospects are highly valuable pieces, and I'm sure many teams would trade for Murphy if GS included Ike. Also, he makes no mention of the Fisher trade, which 1) was a brilliant cap-cutting move, and 2)shows that GS can move a bad contract without including JRich.

We could play out the season, get people's values up and then trade them. Of course by that time, fans will be like keep them! keep them! We're going to make the playoffs! And then we miss it for the 15th or however many times we've missed the playoffs...
