I just noticed that MJ won the MVP award in 88 and 98. Has anyone else ever won two MVP's tens years apart?
I dont know of anyone that has done that. MJ is great! He was still MVP type player ten years apart.. Nice..
http://basketball-reference.com/awards/mvp.html Jordan (88, 98): 10 years apart Kareem (71, 80): 9 years apart Wilt (60, 68): 8 years apart Russell (58, 65): 7 years apart Moses (79, 83): 4 years apart Magic (87, 90): 3 years apart Pettit (56, 59): 3 years apart
MJ was amazing. if he came back to the league tomorrow he would still be MVP. okay, maybe not, but you know what i mean.
If MJ does hold the record for longest time between 1st MVP and last its weird how its not that publicized unlike almost everything else about his career.
Just shows how bad the late 90's was..It was Jordan and a bunch of role players in the whole league. Other than Karl Malone, no one else were even a threat for the MVP that year.

Charles Barkley, scotty pippen? not to mention the emmerging young shaq. 90's basketball wasn't bad at all.

The early 90s were alright..All the players that you mentioned above were past their prime, and David Robinson was injured around that time too. Anyway, MJ wouldn't have won the MVP or even the title that year if the league was filled with the kind of talent these days.
80s Stars: Magic Johnson Larry Bird Moses Malone Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Isiah Thomas Michael Jordan Dennis Rodman Dominique Wilkins James Worthy Clyde Drexler Robert Parish Kevin McHale Charles Barkley Ralph Sampson Akeem Olajuwon Adrian Dantley Patrick Ewing 90s Stars: Michael Jordan David Robinson Karl Malone Charles Barkley Patrick Ewing John Stockton Shaquille O'Neal Gary Payton Shawn Kemp Penny Hardaway Hakeem Olajuwon Reggie Miller Alonzo Mourning Scottie Pippen Overall the 80s is much better

But i do agree in the late 90's the talent level did dip a bit.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NBA MAN:</div><div class="quote_post">dallasdude, if Mike played now (in his prime) he would easily win MVP every year</div> I dunno about that, he'd win some, but its not a guarantee he'd win every year... and yes, the 80's had WAY more talent than the 90's overall.

Even the years he didn't win it, some felt they just wanted to give it to someone else because he was getting too many. It's not like he didn't have competition. The late 90's weren't so bad. I'm assuming late 90's is from 95-96 and on. We still had: Malone, Hakeem, Penny, Grant Hill, Pippen, Shaquille O'neal, David Robinson, Payton, Stockton, Barkley, Ewing, KJ, Mitch Richmond, Glen Rice, Reggie, Alonzo, Webber. There were also the younger guys, Kidd, Sprewell and Iverson, and in 97-98 we had Duncan.
