Haha, I laughed at a couple of these.

I remember this on ESPN many months back. For NBA star wing players, I'd do:

    Mercury: Allen Iverson
    Venus: Vince Carter
    Earth: Kobe Bryant
    Mars: Ron Artest
    Jupiter: LeBron James
    Saturn: Dwyane Wade
    Uranus: Ray Allen
    Neptune: Tracy McGrady
    Pluto: Paul Pierce

Can anyone decode why I chose those players for each of these planets?

Paul Pierce for pluto because although he is a star of his own like the rest of the guys, he rarely gets the attention that they do. So, compared to the rest, his startdom is smaller, much like Pluto which is the smallest planet of the traditional solar system.

Lebron James for Jupiter because it is the largest planet, thus resembling Lebron, who is perhaps the biggest star in the league right now.

Dwyane Wade for Saturn because it is the 2nd biggest planet (behind Jupiter), resembling the league in which Lebron James is the main star and Wade is argueably the 2nd biggest star.

Good job. All three answers are correct. Of course, the Iverson choice is the same as in the article.

I chose Kobe for Earth, because I consider him to be the most "complete" wing player in the game. Just like Earth is the most "complete" planet in the solar system (from the perspective of support life, of course).

I chose Carter for Venus, because he's a very similar type of player to Kobe (just as Venus is very close in size to Earth, and shortest distance away from Earth than any other planet). Venus also represents beauty and volatility, which describes Vince's exciting dunking style quite well.

Mars, in Roman mythology, is the God of War, and so I picked Artest because of his hyper competitiveness, fighting spirit, and physical play. I think Kobe could have fit nicely here, as well, considering his personality.

For Uranus, I chose Ray Allen. Uranus differs from the other planets because it rotates along a different axis. Similar, Allen's game stands apart from the rest of the players in the group, because's the strength in his game in perimeter shooting, whereas for everyone else the dimension in which they excel is slashing and the midrange game.

One defining feature for Neptune is the path of it's orbit around the Sun. Very far away on one side, much close on the other (if I recall, it's actually closer to the Sun than Uranus, at times). I chose McGrady for Neptune, because the past year with all the injuries he stepped well out of the limelight. He was front and center for a few seasons, but after last season his status has dipped quite a lot. Yeah, I know .. a stretch. I had to put McGrady somewhere!
