I'm stealing Chutney's idea right out of the Raps forum. I actually thought the idea of a Raps all time team was pretty funny, so I wanted to kind of compare it to the All Time C's. For Raptors fans that wander in, I'm just joking, but let's do it for giggles anyway. C Russell/Parish/Cowens PF McHale/Heinsohn/Macauley SF Bird/Havlicek/Howell SG Jones/Sharman/Pierce PG Cousy/Archibald/White vs. C A Davis/Camby PF Bosh/Oakley SFCarter/McGrady SG Christie/Peterson PG Williams/Stoudamire Does anyone else see why I think this is funny? The idea of having an all time team for a ten year old team, hmmm... Again, just kidding guys, I know you're just trying to keep the offseason stuff fun, and I give you guys more credit than anyone for being SO devoted to that team. The rest of the NBA would be honored to have that kind of basketball credit in other cities. Keep up the good work. Anyway... What do you guys think? Any one else see other players who should be on this list?
I bet you could make a team of players that you left off of your Celtics list, and it still might look better than that Raps one.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">I bet you could make a team of players that you left off of your Celtics list, and it still might look better than that Raps one.</div> You're absolutely right. It wouldn't even be a stretch. Here's another lineup: C Paul Silas PF Cedric Maxwell SF Reggie Lewis SG Dennis Johnson PG K.C. Jones But wouldn't you agree, those Raps fans are pretty great fans?
I agree with the list as a whole, but if Hondo is the greatest Celtic of all time, why don't you have him starting?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree with the list as a whole, but if Hondo is the greatest Celtic of all time, why don't you have him starting?</div> Would you be able to show your face on this board if you didn't start Bird? Or if you moved Pierce off the twos list to make room for Hondo? Besides, Hondo was the greatest sixth man of all time.
Geez, Celtics fans are like the tired, old coots of the Atlantic Division. Always scolding us young whippersnappers and telling us stories from "back in the good old days." LoL, no offense taken either. Definitely, there's no comparison. Would any of the players on the Raps team even make the All-Time Celts? Just for fun, though, let's try to make a team of the Celtics players who only played in the first 12 years of the franchise's existence (1946-1958). That might be a fairer comparison, and might prove me right in thinking that, despite only existing for 12 years, the Raps have assembled a pretty good collection of talent.

I'll assume we are: C Bill Russell/Ed Macauley PF Tommy Heinsohn/Frank Ramsey SF Jim Loscutoff/Satch Sanders SG Sam Jones/Bill Sharman PG Bob Cousy/K.C. Jones Sorry, I don't think this turned out quite as you were expecting, but it was fun anyway. Instead, let's list the Hall of Famers from this group instead: Ed Macauley Tommy Heinsohn Bill Russell Bill Sharman Frank Ramsey K.C. Jones Bob Cousy Sam Jones Bob Houbregs Honey Russell Arnie Risen And if we don't count the BAA days you can also add Hondo and Clyde Lovellette. A grand total of 13 Hall of Famers, to the Raps (potentially) one. With all that said though, let's be fair and say that the talent was hardly spread around back then, there weren't near as many teams, and more Hall of Famers came out of Boston than anywhere, so it's not really a fair comparison. Plus, you've got Red robbing everyone in the league blind for talent. It's not fair to pit the two teams head to head.

I guess that's what I get for assuming things about the league back in the day, and not bothering to check it out. It's pretty ridiculous how quickly the Celtics assembled a dynasty.
Squishface, your forgetting one thing, Toronto had Eric Montross, Loren Woods, Roger Mason Jr. AND Milt Palacio in only 12 years in the NBA. Can't touch that.

Can't touch that.</div> Or at least, I couldn't touch that, if we were talking about any team but the Celtics. In just twelve recent years, this team had Jerome Moiso, drafted Eric Montross, had good ol' Full Court Mort (that would be Palacio, funny story behind that, PM me sometime for it), and Stojko Vrankovic (50 games with the C's, a total of 95 points scored, and 79 rebounds, he was 7'2").
I really think you guys may be underrating Paul Pierce a bit. IMO him and Bird have been the two best Celtics scorers of all-time. Bill Sharman was a great and memorable shooting guard, as was Sam Jones; yet I think we tend to overrate the mythical men of the past. So, my starting lineup would be. C- Bill Russell PF- Kevin McHale SF- Larry Bird SG- Paul Pierce PG- Bob Cousy

I'm with you when it comes to the idea overrating the men of the past, but Sam Jones is simply irreplaceable in the all time C's roster. He was a wizard on the defensive end, could fill it up, and made some of the most memorable moments in Celtics history possible. There's no overrating Cousy though is there? The man was just the best at what he did. I'm with you on Pierce's abilities though, he is very possibly the best one on one scorer in Celtics history, he can beat anyone, any night.
the celtics are rich with history and have had some great players. if all of the teams in the nba had all-time teams i think the celtics whould be right up there with the lakers
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Laker_fan:</div><div class="quote_post">Make a Celtics team of the last 12 years and make a Raptors team of the last 12 years.</div> Now you're talking. Those two teams would be right there. I'm actually fairly certain the Raps would have more talent, and the C's would be looking up at them.
Hmmm.... Celtics- C - Raef Lafrentz/Tony Battie/Kendrick Perkins PF - Antoine Walker/Dino Radja/Danny Fortson SF - Paul Pierce/Wally Szcerbiak/Bruce Bowen SG - Dominique Wilkins/Joe Johnson/Ricky Davis PG - Gary Payton/ Chauncey Billups/Kenny Anderson Raptors- C- Antonio Davis/Marcus Camby PF- Chris Bosh/Charles Oakley SF- Tracy McGrady/Charlie Villaneuva SG- Vince Carter/Doug Christie/Morris Peterson PG- Chauncey Billups/Damon Stoudamire/Alvin Williams

Or are they as good as they were when they were in Toronto? Cuz Thrilla has a team of how good they are today, we all know Chauncey wasnt that good in T.O.
I'd say that because the whole idea of an all-time time is a fantasy, then we should consider the players at their best.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">I'd say that because the whole idea of an all-time time is a fantasy, then we should consider the players at their best.</div> Then it's a joke, and Toronto hasn't got a shot. Payton, 'Nique, PP, 'Toine, all those guys in their prime and on the same team, that's not even fair. Just ridiculous.
Alright then make a team of the 12 best Celtics when they were with the Cs vs. the 12 best Raptors. This is mine: C: Bill Russell PF: Kevin Mchale SF: Larry Bird SG: Paul Pierce PG: Bob Cousy 6: Robert Parish 7: Nate Archibald 8: John Havlicek 9: Bill Walton 10: Sam Jones 11: Pete Maravich 12: Dennis Johnson I don't really follow the raps too much. Y'all can make a team. Peace
