<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Scot Pollard promises to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers in bruises and floor burns. "I'm not a pretty player," he said. "I go in there and do the dirty work. I dive on the floor. I take charges. I set screens. I do a lot of things guys don't like doing. I found my niche and I'm sticking with it." Pollard, a free agent known as much for his ever-changing hair and sideburn styles, signed a one-year contract with the Cavaliers, who also traded centre Martynas Andriuskevicius to the Chicago Bulls for guard Eddie Basden on Friday. Pollard averaged 3.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 45 games - 32 starts - last season for the Indiana Pacers, his third NBA team. The six-foot-11 265-pound Pollard will give the Cavs more inside muscle and can provide needed energy along with Anderson Varejao, Cleveland's mop-topped Brazilian. "I'm a piece to a championship puzzle," Pollard said from his home in Indianapolis. </div> link: http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story/?ID=174628&hubname=nba
Have fun with Basden. He never lived up to his expectations in Chicago, where he was supposed to be a great defensive player with an adequate offensive game. Well, his defense was poor and his offense was even worse.
you have fun with Martynas too, he wasn't exactly all that, lol. I'mlooking froward to seeing another hustler on board for the Cavs, and am also pleased to see a 1-year deal, so it makes it easier for us to re-sign Varejao next offseason.
When you guys got Martynas, you knew he was going to be a project. No one in the Cavs organization thought he'd do anything last year anyways. So, as a Bulls fan, I don't really have much for expectations for him this year, and for the most part, I expect him to designated to the NBDL. I know he's not ready to do anything on this level and I know the kids only 20 with height and a ton of potential. He's got plenty of developing to do still, and he could end up being a good player. However, with Basden, he was supposed to come in and be good for us. However, when given the chance, he didn't do anything. He didn't show the defense that he was supposed to have, and that was the reason why we got him by the way, and his offense was very, very poor. So personally, I'll take a 7'2" project that could end up very good as opposed to a 6'6" guard that's probably not going to amount to anything and will probably be completely out of the league in another year or two.

Maybe it's just the selfish Shannon Brown fan in me, but I don't like the Basden trade. Aside from Brown, we've already got Larry Hughes, Ira Newble, Stephen Graham, Daniel Gibson, and maybe even David Wesley at the two. I guess we're going to give Brown minutes at the point. He actually ran the point in Vegas and did very well. How does this sound as a backcourt rotation? PG - Shannon Brown/Eric Snow/Damon Jones SG - Larry Hughes/Ira Newble/Daniel Gibson/Stephen Graham/Eddie Basden Is that crowded or what? I don't like the idea of giving up Andriuskevicius either. Sure, he didn't do anything for us, but we knew he wasn't going to right away. He's a long-term project, and given the value of center's in today's market, we probably would have been wise to hold onto him for another two or three years. As for Scot Pollard, it's a decent signing I guess. He's servicable as a backup, but odds are he'll just serve as a macot of sorts, entertaining the crowd every night with his bizarre hairstyles. Here's my favorite (pic). Yes, that's a real picture.
To be honest, I'm not too sure about most of these acquisitions, I mean, they're pretty good, but they could, and possibly should, be better. If we think that Marty is only worth Basden (and nothing else) then we obviously think that he will not turn into anything great. This is fine, so long as he is never worth anything much in the future. I, myself, would rather have seen a draft pick involved instead as (I think) we have none this year. Pollard is only on a 1-year deal, so he will help whilst Varejao develops, as well as providing extra cover for injuries. However, I don't really see him staying on for long at all, as he's not too great. On the subject of our backcourt rotation, it is overcrowded and I would like to see a couple of guys traded away. That could include Larry Hughes, if the offer is right. Although a fan favourite due to his hustle, Ira Newble's contract far outweighs his worth, especially in this rotation. If we can get a draft pick for Jiri Welsch, I'm sure we can get one for Ira.

You forgot about Aleksandar Pavlovic and Luke Jackson at the three though, so I mean, even if you move Newble and Graham to the three, it just moves the logjam. As for Snow starting, maybe he'll get the job because of seniority, but he's had back to back very unproductive seasons, so I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Brown won the starting job sooner or later. In fact, I'm sort of banking on it.
and hoping for it, lol. I'm not sure about Snow, because he has intangibles and helps stop a lot of players. He's no defensive stopper, but he can defend pretty well.
