I really hope that the Wilf's move quickly to find a replacement. The Pioneer Press presented this list of possible replacements: Cam Cameron, offensive coordinator, San Diego Chargers Brad Childress, offensive coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles Ted Cottrell, defensive coordinator, Vikings Jim Fassel, offensive coordinator, Baltimore Ravens Kirk Ferentz, head coach, University of Iowa Jerry Gray, defensive coordinator, Buffalo Bills Russ Grimm, offensive line coach, Pittsburgh Steelers Gary Kubiak, offensive coordinator, Denver Broncos Tim Lewis, defensive coordinator, New York Giants Ron Rivera, defensive coordinator, Chicago Bears Jim Schwartz, defensive coordinator, Tennessee Titans Gregg Williams, defensive coordinator, Washington Redskins I personally think Jim Fassel will get the job, although I would not meind seeing Gary Kubiak, Ron Rivera, or Gregg Williams. I would hate to see Ted Cottrell.
i agree with you as a Jet fan who had to deal with Cottrell i would definatly not want him as a head coach, if i were a Vikings fan i'd love to have Ron Rivera i mean look what he did with that Bears defense wow. Jim Fassel will definatly be considered as hes been there before, also what about Mooch maybe he'll move right along to another team
I don't want Mooch either. I've never considered him a good coach. He has completely flubbed in Detroit. A coach is supposed to use what is given to him, and the lack of any productivity from his wide receiver corps is just criminal. Even Arizona without a real good QB is getting production out of their star receivers. I am simply not sold on him as a head coach. Rivera would be extremely good. Not only is he a good coach, he also has a lot of insight into an NFC north rival, which helps drastically. BA, why don't you think Kubiak will leave Denver?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (vikingfan)</div><div class='quotemain'>BA, why don't you think Kubiak will leave Denver?</div> 2 reasons; 1) a gut instinct 2) He's had opportunities before and hasn't.
The latest rumor on the Tice replacement - Childress of the Eagles. Why? The Vikings are looking for a Personell Director (one of the many positions eliminated by McCombs), and the Eagle's Heckert is being interviewed for the position. Some are speculating that they want to bring him in to help choose a head coach, which would lead one to believe that Childress might be a legitimate head coach option. I'm sure the rumormill will be busy - and I can't wait. I will be on my knees praying for an incredible replacement coach.
Childress is going to be a solid coach for someone. I guess he would be another guy on the Holmgrem tree. He would be the first assistant of one of Holmgrem's assistant to become a head coach. GB is very high on him as well.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Hawk)</div><div class='quotemain'>Sherman!</div> Sherman would have Minnesota in the playoffs in a 2 years at worse.
Kirk Ferentz, head coach, University of Iowa I've heard good things about him. But I'm not real high on college coaches. Have the Vikes considered him?
Brad Childress expressed an interest in the head coaching job for Vikings. http://vikings.kfan.com/sports/nflguide/lo...7A-722D8D6E84F8
I just hear on the PA & Dubay that Childress is going to be in MN today for an interview for the coaching job. But he will also be in Green Bay for an interview .
The latest word is that the head coaching position is down to Childress and Cottrell. I have two theories about this, but I'm not sure which one wins out... <u>Theory 1</u> The owners decided to go a different direction with the club, which is why they fired Tice. I am not sure if they anticipated such heavy demand for coaches, but they made their decision. Because they decided to do this, they should go all the way, bring in someone from the outside (Childress) and let him rework the team. <u>Theory 2</u> The Vikings are a team that is only a few players away from being competitive. Towards the end of the season they started to come together, and with a little work on the offense (which will happen naturally when people get healthy), this will be one scary team. Because of this, we should keep the same schemes and same philosophy and bring in someone who can make the necessary changes without having to rebuild. Therefore, bring in Cottrell. I don't know which theory I like better. I am probably leaning towards theory 2, but then again, I don't think Tice should have been fired this year...
