<div class="quote_poster">Quoting vcwannabe15:</div><div class="quote_post">Who makes the most money, athletes, musicians, or actors?</div>probably actors, then athletes, then musicians. But in all areas, there is a small percentage that make way more than the rest, then there is a steep drop off.
yes, athletes...musicians.. and actors.. all make a ton of cash doing what they do. basically people u see on television for entertainment.. make mad cash.. but the people makin' the most are the ones behind the t.v. networks that are puting those people on t.v. (ex. take Oprah - HARPO Productions. makes millions while she's sleeping.. & billions every year)
Bill Gates is worth loads more but he aint a Athlete. Athletes get paid way too much to play a sport if you ask me... We need more teachers and doctors who save lives and teach our future to be paid more. Tiger is worth over half a billion? Thats just insane.
If they can make teaching/medicine into a sport, with referees, cheerleaders, ESPN, colour commentary, and post-game interviews, I'm all for giving them these type of salaries.
^ Thats the reason every other nation has better education systems than our own. Education and Medical comes first. Japan has one of the best in the world! Did you know that the government pays for medical expensives of each and every citizen in Japan? Education is also very solid out there.

Also, since the players' unions are strong, they refuse to play unless they get an appropriate percentage of the profits. It's not the athlete's fault they get so much money.
Im not saying it is the althetes fault. im sayin that OUR SOCIETY as a whole, has their priorities all wrong...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trench:</div><div class="quote_post">Im not saying it is the althetes fault. im sayin that OUR SOCIETY as a whole, has their priorities all wrong...</div> I wouldn't agree. Really, if one doesn't want athletes to make money, then don't watch their sport. Otherwise, the money will always flow into their bank accounts. Since I don't think there is anything wrong with watching the NBA(etc.), athletes being rich is just something that almost can't be helped.
I love sports, but it doesnt mean I agree with everything that goes on in sports. I love the game, but alot of the business aspects of it I dont agree with.. So now what? Because I dont like the business side of sports, I shouldnt watch sports?
Nothing can touch NBA money(sports and salary wise). Tiger has the First BIllionaire thing on lock), but if LeBron manages to keep going at a steady pace, he can be worth a billion for sure...IMO.

That doesn't mean that sports/entertainment stars don't get way more money and attention. The fact is, our societies are leisure-based. Forms of entertainment will always get more focus/generate more money than everything else. btw, I was just being a wiseass with the other post.

Why shouldn't they get paid? If they don't get millions of dollars, the owners and figureheads will get the money. I understand what you are trying to say, but if you analyze the position the athletes are in, them getting a bunch of money is justified. It seems what you're really asking for is socialism.
When I think of the top grossing athletes I look at what they are able to do w/ their money as opposed to what type of contracts they are able to secure. Magic Johnson has invested his money in real estate, merchandise, ownership, along w/ his side gigs in TV and other social events. In my opinion he has done as much with his earnings as any athlete in sports. Professional boxer Ike Quartey has also modeled after Magic Johnson in his country of Ghana and is said to be one of the wealthiest men in Africa. Smart investments is the key to maximizing one's earning potential. We've all heard the saying that you have to be willing to spend money to make money.
Yeah Tiger will be the first billionaire, as stated, he is already worth an estimated $500,000,000 and he is in a sport where your professional career can span 35-40+ years. Tiger is only 31, he has another 30+ years in him while LeBron has about 15.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't even consider Tiger Woods an athlete.</div> weak dude, golfers in general may not be athletic, but tiger is an athlete. He can bench like 300 i heard, and look at him, he looks like an athlete
What he actually does is not that athletic though, is the guy's opinion. Yes he may practice a lot, but so do many people. Golf is not the NFL/NBA/etc.
