<div class="quote_poster">Quoting huevonkiller:</div><div class="quote_post">What he actually does is not that athletic though, is the guy's opinion. Yes he may practice a lot, but so do many people. Golf is not the NFL/NBA/etc.</div> I assume you've never played, followed, watched or know anything about golf. If you look at it, the number of sports that involve less physical work than say basketball, football etc. probally out number those that do.
Uh am I a Golf expert? No. Good guess (but I have watched golf and played it a bit). However, that is what I am doing right now, purely speculating. The point, is that the previous fellow, did not find Tiger Woods to be an athlete. I am inclined to agree (that he is not an athlete at the level of most baskteball-Football players). I don't know for sure. Also, I'd listen to an intelligent arguement on why I am wrong of course.
Well let me put it this way, Lance Armstrong for example argubally has a greater workload in his respected sport than what LeBron James has, does that make LeBron James any less of an athlete?

I am not following you. However it is known LeBron is easily one of the most athletic players in the NBA, many would agree he is more athletic than Armstrong. I don't think Armstrong is as athletic as a baller either, although again, I could be wrong. Maybe there is another example that better explains what you mean.
You said you dont really regard Tiger Woods as an athlete, I'm assuming because Golf isnt as phsyically demanding as Basketball is, I'm saying how does that make Tiger Woods any less of an athlete?

Well I know some people that can do that to and a few other things, but they can't play in the NBA/NFL. I think he is an athlete, but not at the level of a lot of ballers.
Yea, but it's all subjective. Looking from a hockey/basketball perspective, one might say that it doesn't take much of an athlete to play baseball. The fact is that only a handful of people can play the game of golf. It may not require as much stamina, strength, etc. (what we tend to consider a criteria for the athletic), but it still takes a hell of a lot of precision, co-ordination, etc.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Iron Shiek:</div><div class="quote_post">When I think of the top grossing athletes I look at what they are able to do w/ their money as opposed to what type of contracts they are able to secure. Magic Johnson has invested his money in real estate, merchandise, ownership, along w/ his side gigs in TV and other social events. In my opinion he has done as much with his earnings as any athlete in sports. Professional boxer Ike Quartey has also modeled after Magic Johnson in his country of Ghana and is said to be one of the wealthiest men in Africa. Smart investments is the key to maximizing one's earning potential. We've all heard the saying that you have to be willing to spend money to make money.</div> I agree with this. I dont see nothing wrong with this. We all know what happened to Mike Tyson. He made big bucks, and now look where he is at... In debt.. Smart Investments is KEY! I guess Im a bit upset about all the poverty and problems I see with our country. We are out fighting wars, paying entertainers millions of dollars, but we cant seem to feed our own people. Its sad...
LeBron may be one of the wealthiest ballers in about 5 years if he smiles more. Personally I think the future face of the NBA will be young Chris Paul. He's more photogenic, superbly talented, doesn't want to take anything away from any of his friends like Bron, DWade or Melo, but he is relaxed and articulate in front of a camera, with his only distraction being a point guard's natural tendency to see what is going on all around him while focused on the interviewer. This kid will be selling more clothes, shoes, gear, equipment, energy drinks and could probably beat Charles Barkley for governor of AL on a write-in ballot. He isn't as big and strong as Wade and can't attack the rim the same way, and he can't dominate with power and finesse like Bron nor can he shoot as sweet as Melo; but he's running them pretty well in Japan leading the world in assists and making 50 % of his shots and grabbing 4 and 5 rebounds to boot. Not bad for a 6 foot kid from Tre-4. Oh, and by the way, I think there's formula race car driver in Italy who is pretty close to Woods in the endorsement lottery. When I have time I'll post his name later today because it truly amazes me how little we really know.

If you look at the rap stars, they make more money with a clothing line/endorsments/video games/alcohol/clubs/restaurants/sneakers/making movies etc...
Tiger Woods is only 30, and he just gets richer and richer. Just think most golfers are 10x his age. I`ll believe by the time Tiger retires, he`ll be the richest athlete in history.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't even consider Tiger Woods an athlete.</div> that is just complete ignorance
If you don't consider golf an athletic sport, you should give it a go. It's not the most physically enduring sport, but mentally, it's up there as one of the toughest.
It's still a pretty phsyical sport, it involves alot of upper body work / strength, and you have to be to be able to walk an entire golf course for a whole day, thats a couple of kilometres walk right there.
I like LeBron's ambitions to reach out to his consumers. The article mentioned he's learning Mandarin to relate more with the Chinese market. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> James is working on it, even taking Mandarin Chinese lessons with the hope of being able to conduct interviews by 2008.</div>
Today, actually a swedish newspaper wrote about this subject. Headline: Tiger Woods f?rst att n? tio miljarder (SEK) = Tiger Woods first to reach 10 billion Swedish Krones. This is then 10 / 7,2 (since I USD is 7,2 SEK) which gives you a total of approx 1,4 billion dollars. So I guess Tiger is already a billion dollar athlete and therefor end of discussion? According to Forbes, Tiger makes 91 million dollars a year. The article also includes a list atheles with biggest Income per year (USD) 1) Tiger Woods, golf, 91 million 2) Michael Schumacher, formel 1, 58,6 million 3) Muhammad Ali, boxning, 53,4 million 4) Phil Mickelson, golf, 47,6 million 5) Michael Jordan, basket, 32,3 million <-- that's what the article says. 6) Kobe Bryant, basket, 31,3 million
