Did anyone realize that he is still a free agent. Wow!
Rockets getting him is a slim chance, but we can always hope.

Rumor has it he might settle for someone "renting" him dirt cheap for a year if the team is a contender and he has a starting spot. That way he can work on his trade value but still have a shot at a ring in the meantime.

Sounds like Houston would be a great fit for him, if you ask me.

    Alston
    Wells
    McGrady
    Battier
    Yao

That lineup is pretty incredible. Too bad I don't see it happening [IMG]

Well, we do have around $3 mil of the MLE left; if Wells wants to sign for that amount, I'd be all for it. He's a good scorer and solid defender, not to mention as a shooting guard he could give you 7 rebounds. On a team last year where no one in the backcourt went after rebounds after Sura had his surgery, Wells would help.

Rockets have in the range of 1-2.4 mil. left on the MLE from what I understand.
They also have the trade exception at 4.1 mil. right

So heres the thing. The Rockets are over the cap.
The exception could be used to give Sac some flexibility, and give Bonzi close to the MLE. That salary would count double against the Rockets payroll.
So it would be spending 10mil a year on him as far as the front office perspective.

Bonzi is a guy that is good enough to take that chance if something can be worked out. CD and L.Alexander should make something happen.
It was rumored that Bonzi might go to Denver for 1 year at 3 mil. Rockets can do better and should.

    Skip Sura VSpan JLIII
    Bonzi Snyder Head
    TMac Shane
    Howard Hayes Novak
    Yao Deke

Add a 3rd center and I would be dancing in the street.

Adding Bonzi to the team can put us over the top, but common guys. He'll prob resign for a year and be a free agent next year.

That would be a great opportunity for the Rockets by aggressively chasing Bonzi, but wait a minute, are we talkin about Jeff Van Gundy's Rockets? Never mind, we all know JVG can't coach talented players. He'd much rather spend the rest of the midlevel and resign Charles Oakley. After all, Oakley is 10times the "Jeff Van Gundy type player" Bonzi is.[IMG]

Don't really understand your point here, since Wells is actually a solid defender, rebounds well, and racks up a lot of steals. If Van Gundy can't coach talented players, how the hell did he make Camby the beast he is today, cope with Sprewell, get Yao to break out, and coach Ewing, one of the greatest centers in the history of the league? Besides, why are you taking out your anger on Van Gundy? Its not like he's the GM of the Rockets and its not like he's the one fielding all the trade calls, etc.

Seriously, Bonzi would be a great fit. But Van Gundy's system is too slow and lacks the freedom to get Bonzi any touches. Van Gundy likes to run out the clock and have as many low scoring games as possible. Unfortunatley, that style worked with the Knicks in the 90's but isn't very effective in todays game. In order for somebody of Bonzi's nature to be effective on the Rockets, we would have to have some flexibility in the offense. And that we know is NOT gonna happen. That's why he chooses so many NBDL and washed up point guards, because they won't dare complain if they're just happy to be back in the league.

Bonzi is the most talented free agent on the market. I'm pretty sure teams that still have their MLE will contact him.

I would have to disagree with saying Bonzi would not fit our system. He's not exactly a run and gunner, or a number one option. He's actually at his best on the block posting up.

I really don't see him going back to Sac. and I'm sure somebody will throw some money at him. I would be shocked and ready to tear down Toyota Center if the trade exception as a offer for him ain't on somebody's desk in Sac already.

Sac will wait and wait until they think they have got the best deal if they are involved in moving him at all.

I actually think he would be good for the Bobcats who have money under the cap to spend and would not have to involve the Kings.
The Rockets have got to be attractive to Bonzi, even if its for 1 year at 5mil.

    Actually, sources say otherwise-

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Petrie: Wells Return No Longer Practical
    3rd September, 2006 - 6:04 am
Sacramento Bee - There have been talks within the Kings' organization about free-agent swingman Bonzi Wells' renewed interest in rejoining the team, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Wells, who dazzled during last season's first-round playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs , has been unable to find the lucrative deal he sought this summer and has made it known to the Kings that he would like to return.

But as far as Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie is concerned, his team has moved on.

"There's nothing to that beyond the fact that Bonzi still has legitimate interests about wanting to play for us," Petrie said while interrupting a brief vacation. "The dynamics we've talked about before are still there.

"The tax issue still is there, and we've assembled a roster. We've basically moved on. We've made commitments. There's nothing that's changed, nothing that involves us."

Earlier in the summer Wells rejected a five year contract which would have paid him $8 million annually.</div>

Ya i just read that...seems like we still have a chance. If Kings arent willing to take Bonzi because they have prior commitments then maybe they would be up for a 4.2 trade exception.
