That's kind of messed up. I don't think Edwards would ditch the Jets for a job in Kansas City. He just doesn't seem like that kind of a guy. I'm sure he would love it if the Jets let him go or something but I don't know.

Herm Edwards if he gets that job is gonna be really lucky. He already has a great team. He is a defensive minded coach, and he can teach that defense how to tackle. His first priotry should be stockpiling young guys, because the chiefs are gonna hit a wall soon with their QB and offensive lineman getting older and older and soon to be retiring.

but does anyone think this could actually happen? i mean if it does the Jets will get a 1st round pick which is big but i think their coach is bigger. Herm is a great guy too and a decent coach good motivator not the greatest playcaller but he has more to work with if he goes to the Chiefs. I mean would the Jets even let the Chiefs talk to him? would Herm actually ditch his team? idk

    Heres an article on nfl.com

NEW YORK (Jan. 4, 2006) -- The Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets discussed a compensation package for coach Herman Edwards on Wednsday, a person familiar with the situation said on condition of anonymity.

The Chiefs, rumored to be interested in Edwards for the last two months, would have to give up draft picks to hire Edwards because he is still under contract with the Jets. Edwards has ties to the Kansas City organization and general manager Carl Peterson, and would replace retired coach Dick Vermeil.

The NFL must approve the deal before it can be official, and nothing was submitted to the league office by late Jan. 4.

Giving up draft picks is nothing new to the Chiefs. Kansas City surrendered a second- and a third-round pick when it hired Vermeil, who was technically under contract with St. Louis even though he was retired. Peterson was upset about that, and though he declined to discuss Edwards at a news conference Jan. 3, he did say "Any time I have to part with a No. 1 draft choice it's painful."

But the Chiefs might not have to if the Jets agree to take lower-round selections. That would make sense for the Jets, who need as many picks as they can get to fill holes after a 4-12 season.

The Jets maintained the Chiefs haven't officially contacted them. Edwards' agent, Gary O'Hagan, said he hasn't spoken with the Jets or Chiefs, saying, "I'm only talking to Coach Edwards."

Edwards, who has two years left on his contract, wants an extension with the Jets so he could have more time to rebuild the team. At $2 million a year, Edwards is one of the lowest-paid coaches in the league, and wanted a raise as a reward for taking the team to the playoffs three times in five years.

Still, he maintained throughout the season and as late as Jan. 2 that he planned to be the Jets' coach. In November, team owner Woody Johnson also said he wanted Edwards to stay.

"I'm happy to be the coach here and I'm going to be the coach here, like I said before, and that's as far as I want to comment on it," Edwards said earlier this week.

It appears that is no longer likely.

Nice article panthersare#1, I don't think they would agree with the 1st round pick for Herm. Probably if it was like a 3rd or 4th round it would seem reasonable. It's not like he's a famous coach or something.

This is a nice thread, but who are the Cheifs??? (Great googley moogley! Someone had to say it!)

I think Herman Edwards has done a great job with the Jets. They've made the playoffs three of the five years that he's been there. I think he would be an excellent replacement for Vermeil. I think Edwards has a similar approach in the way he treats his players and inspires them to play for him. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets agree to let Edwards go for a couple of lower round draft picks.

Herman Edwards will stay with the jets because he really faced some uncontrollable problems like pennington and such. i dont think he will end up at the chiefs.

idk who are the Cheifs i mean jeez who the hell would make such a stupid mistake?

    i think they'll take more than a 3rd and 4th i think 2nd and 3rd would be fair, i'd be happy with a 1st rounder too lol

but really i'd rather Herm stay with the Jets that'd be the best, Woody Johnson u stupid owner pay the man what hes due. The guy owns an NFL team and he stats that he doesnt want to go after any high price FA its ridiculous its a mess i think over here

The talks have stalled for now but I guess the Jets asking price isn't that bad so I'm guessing KC is trying even harder to talk them down to maybe a future 2nd.

The negotiation for compensation has stalled but I think it will get done. Herm will succeed Vermeil.

Allegedly, the jets are in financial dire straits annd it may take a few years to right the ship hence Herm asking for an extension.

i personally think if they do ship off Herm that they should hire defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson he'd make an awesome coach and hes a great defensive mind bringing them froma 20th ranked defense to 7th the year after. i wouldnt be happy if they didnt hire him

It seems that Herm Edwards is really mad that the owner isnt sticking up for him, so im sure that Edwards will be gone soon

I guess they've reached a deal where the Jets receiver only a 4th round pick. Jets fans can't be happy. I saw J-E-T-S thinks Donnie Henderson should get a shot at the Head Coaching spot and I agree with him but they better hurry as I think he's got a couple interviews setup.
