Will, you guys probably already know who I'm gonna say. Gilbert Arenas. He's already putting up superstar type numbers and he's turned this whole Wizards team around and making them a playoff team; and yet, he barely gets on the all-star team.

You guys gotta see how he turned the Wizards around. Guys like Michael Jordan, Jerry Stackhouse, or Richard Hamilton weren't able to do that. Gilbert may lack in defense, but he does do a lot of hustling out there, which adds to his great scoring. Hopefully in a couple of years, people can see how they call him the eastern Kobe.

Mike Bibby is also sort of underrated, but I do agree I wasn't impressed by him as much this season.

Agreed, Arenas is very underrated for what he does for his team. Delonte West is also very underrated.

Gilber Arenas, Jason Kidd, Raymond Felton, and Baron Davis. When he's not injured he's one of the best.

Gilbert Arenas is really underated but he still made the All-Star game and he is a household name so I wouldn't say he is the most underated point guard.

I think Jameer Nelson is extremely underated. He was a college player of the year and slipped to the end of the first round in the 2004 Draft. He has always been an underdog because of his height but has always been able to adjust and perform at a top level. He is going to be one of the best point guards in the league in several years along with Felton, Paul, and Livingston. There was a poll before about the top young point guards and someone put Marcus Williams in the poll ahead of Jameer. The fact that nobody mentioned him in that thread or in this one just helps prove my point.

For someone that is as much of a household name as Arenas, and also for someone is on a huge contract, I can't call him underrated. Most casual fans know who he is, and when you put up the numbers he has and do what he's done, you lose the underrated tab. He may not get as much recognition, but he still gets some. Also, didn't he make an All NBA team last year? I believe that means he's getting recognition. Same with that MIP Award he won a few years back....and that huge contract he got from the Wizards. Just because he's not popular, doesn't make him underrated.

As far as most underrated PGs, I'm going with Brevin Knight. He's been #2 in the league in assists the last two seasons. For that matter, if it wasn't for the fact that he doesn't play heavy minutes, he'd have led the league in assists two years ago, as he averaged 9apg in under 30mpg. The other thing that makes that impressive is the fact that he's on Charlotte, a team that's still working on finding themselves. Throw in a career 6.8apg in about 27mpg for his career, that's pretty good. However, most people don't really know who he is.

To aid in the discussion, here are some numbers to consider.

Top 20 players in PG PER differential (PER when playing PG minus opposing PG's PER) who played at least 30% of his team minutes at PG:

    <div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><br/><font color=""Blue""> FullName TmPG_tmminPER_diff</font><br/>1Chauncey Billups DET 73% 13.6<br/>2Allen IversonPHI 77% 11.5<br/>3Steve Nash PHO 70% 9.4<br/>4Tony ParkerSAS 68% 7.8<br/>5Gilbert Arenas WAS 85% 7.1<br/>6Sam CassellLAC 51% 6.2<br/>7Chris Paul NOK 42% 5.2<br/>8Kirk Hinrich CHI 34% 4.2<br/>9Devin Harris DAL 32% 3.5<br/>10 Jason Kidd NJN 75% 3.3<br/>11 Jameer NelsonORL 43% 3.2<br/>12 Mike James TOR 69% 3<br/>13 Mike Bibby SAC 79% 2.7<br/>14 Earl Boykins DEN 38% 2.4<br/>15 Baron DavisGSW 49% 2<br/>16 Jason TerryDAL 52% 1.6<br/>17 Speedy Claxton NOK 50% 1.6<br/>18 Jason Williams MIA 31% 1.4<br/>19 Brevin KnightCHA 59% 1.1<br/>20 Derek Fisher GSW 65% 0.7<br/></div>

And here's top 20 PGs by per-48min plus/minus (team point differential while playing PG, per 48 minutes):

<div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><br/><font color=""Blue""> FullNameTmPG_tmmin plus/minus</font><br/>1Chauncey BillupsDET 73%9.7<br/>2Jason WilliamsMIA 31%9.3<br/>3Tony Parker SAS 68%9.1<br/>4Steve NashPHO 70%8.1<br/>5Jason Terry DAL 52%7.4<br/>6Sam Cassell LAC 51%6.5<br/>7Devin HarrisDAL 32%6.3<br/>8Bobby Jackson MEM 34%5.7<br/>9Kirk HinrichCHI 34%5.1<br/>10 Jason KiddNJN 75%4.3<br/>11 Damon Jones CLE 33%4<br/>12 Smush ParkerLAL 69%3.7<br/>13 Gilbert ArenasWAS 85%2.9<br/>14 Anthony Johnson IND 37%2.6<br/>15 Gary Payton MIA 58%2.6<br/>16 Jameer Nelson ORL 43%2.3<br/>17 Sarunas JasikeviciusIND 31%2.2<br/>18 Mike BibbySAC 79%2<br/>19 Eric Snow CLE 58%1.9<br/>20 Andre MillerDEN 42%1.2<br/></div>

Billups tops both lists (he dominates opposing PGs statistically, and his team dominated opposing teams while he was on the court playing PG). Kirk Hinrich, Devin Harris, and Jameer Nelson are all young PGs who will potentially become house-hold names in the near future.

yeah i agree Mike Bibby is underrated. but how were you not impressed this season? over 20 ppg career high, although I understand that his playoff performance was not good, and he's usually pretty clutch...

None of those players are PGs. Pierce and Carmelo are actually forwards.

^ agreed, Hinrich gets no love whatsoever, also as swish said, Jameer Nelson. I can't wait for that guy to have a breakout season and to see him and that Howard dominate in a few years.
