<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Rockets could be close to adding shooter Casey Jacobsen to their retooled backcourt, potentially giving them five guard additions since last season.

Jacobsen, a first-round pick out of Stanford by the Phoenix Suns in 2002, was offered a partially guaranteed contract with the Rockets after a strong season with European power Tau Ceramica (Vitoria, Spain) and in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Jacobsen, who is not likely to sign until the middle of next week, would join Vassilis Spanoulis, Kirk Snyder, John Lucas III and Kelenna Azubuike as backcourt additions since last season. Guards Rafer Alston and Luther Head have had one season with the Rockets.

Jacobsen averaged 16.4 points on 54 percent shooting with the Nuggets' summer league team after averaging nine points last season for Tau Ceramica. He averaged 5.9 points on 39.9 percent shooting and 37 percent 3-point shooting in three seasons with the Suns and Hornets.</div>

With Yao in the post, you can never have too, many shooters on the roster. Should be a very competitive preseason for the wing position.

Nah, there's still some left. However, I'm kind of annoyed we went after Jacobsen compared to a guy like Jumaine Jones (who I think the Suns signed). Jacobsen isn't really that great of a defender while also lacking athleticim and quickness.

Seems like the rockets don't want to add that many guys to multiple contracts. They are trying to keep a solid core and guys that can contribute. They don't wnat to be locked down to specific people in the long run.

More comp for a solid shooter to emerge
Pat Carrol from the summer league signed with somebody a week or 2 ago.
They finally got some size in the back court to compete.

Rockets can give out as many minimum contracts they want. Thats what Novak signed for a min. contract of 2 years and KAz got for 1 year.
I don't think any of them count against the MLE so there still should be 2-2.4 mil left.

You are right that the Rockets don't want anything long term, because they are over the cap and it would count double in taxes.
I would hope a guy that would put the Rockets over the top would be an exception to this rule.

Somebody tell Bonzi to demand a trade to the Rockets for 1 year.

Yeah, and Jumaine Jones is apparently going to be signed for one year with the Suns. Whats is wrong with the front office of this team?

Jones said that the only team he will take a pay cut to play for are the PHX Suns. Before that he would have got paid around 4-5 mil playing Euro bball. Houston would not have gotten him even if they expressed interest in him...

They still have some of that MLE right. Thats besides the point. Bonzi wont take that. that 4.2 million TE is our only hope to get him.

Jacobsen is a solid shooter, but nothing more. Considering the fact that Eric Piatkowski was a bust when he was with us, Jacobsen, who's basically a clone, won't do that well either. However, if he can just make his open shots count, he might just be Jon Barry minus the flash. Good addition, especially since we can cut him anytime we want.

If he or any of our good shooters learn not to be a liability on defence they would be great for this team.

I don't think its really anything he can help. He's not the most athletic guy in the world (think Dunleavy) so its naturally going to be harder for him to keep up with the faster guards in the league.

Another white guy on Rockets that suck? lol..j/k. I hope he isn't another Ryan Bowen. He is a pretty good shooter, but is that the type of guy Rockets want when they need a power forward and they only have little bit of MLE?? Wtf are they doing? [IMG]

the money we have left with the MLE wont be enough for any PF so if your expecting them to sign some one with the money they have your going to be disappointed. The PFs left arent any good either so you'll be disappointed even if they do. Trades are all that will be considerable help to the team.

I've seen some reactions from Suns fans that liked what Jacobsen brought to their team, and missed him when he was traded.

They've actually said that he's very smart, takes the ball to the hole (not a great finisher, but good at getting to the line), and plays his heart out on defense. That's not to say that he's a great defender, but let's not act like he can't guard a cardboard cut-out.
