Kind of OT but not really, but whoever is interested, i was at the big day out (HUGE concert with about 40 different bands) and was in the mosh for Wolfmother( i was crowd surfing right infront of them), Franz Ferdinand, Iggy Pop( I actually got on stage with him, coolest thing ever),Kings of leon, White Stripes,Common and M.I.A. It was huge and by the end of the day, actually it was about 1am, i was so tired. I was there with about 10 other friends and we kept having to run from stage to stage (the concert is in a big park, which happens to be right near my house, and there is about 7 or 8 stages) to see every band we wanted to see, plus we were jumping around all day, crowd surfing and all that stuff. So if anyone is a fan of Iggy Pop and the Stooges, im sure you'll appreciate that i got to sing with him on stage along with about 15 other people and 3 of my friends.[IMG]

Solid list... but where's the love for "Hey"? I know, kind of boring with no big solos or anything, but I'm really drawn to the simplicity of it for some reason...

And yeah, "Tell Me Baby" is a decent track and all. Like I've said before, the songs which I think are worst Peppers songs are better imo than the best of most bands. OT, but doesn't it really bug you that on the music video they say "life can be a little kiddie" instead of "life can be a little shitty"? Can't get over that... they really need new directors for their "21st Century" video too, because these last two been horrible.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">How do you feel about the following songs: Give It Away, Can't Stop, Apachie rose Peacock, Sir Physco Sexy, Zephyr Song, Purple Stain, Throw Away Your Television, Venice Queen, and Under the Bridge?</div>

"Give It Away" is a classic, but I'll never be able to look at it the same way after the commercialization of it. I remember being in elementary/jr hs and hearing Weird Al parodies, and just hearing it everywhere I go. It's one of those songs that a lot of people know and they don't even know who it's by. Everyone loves the bassline, but it's really simple for the basslines Flea can play, and I always thought it was almost identical to Pearl Jam's "Alive" (which is eerily similar to the Beatle's "Come Together"). I really like the end though, sort of their tribute to Black Sabbath's "Sweat Leaf".

"Can't Stop" is one of my all time fav.'s. What makes the song imo is Frusciante's backing vocals leading up the chorus... and the chorus is great in itself too...also gotta love the guitar/vocal mix towards the end of the song, like 3:15 into it.

"Apache Rose Peacock" is a really funky song for the era it came out in, but I'm not really big on Kiedis' vocals on the track... instrumentally it's great... overall, it's one of my least fav.'s on BSSM though.

"Sir Psycho Sexy"... wow, how'd I forget this when making my top 10? Amazing song from all angles... yeah, the lyrics at points of the song are crude, but they're hilarious... perfect ending to the song too... love John's "la la la la la la"s.

"The Zephyr Song" is almost perfect imo. Like Give It Away, it became really commercialized, but unlike Give It Away, I really got into this track before it became a single, and before the radios picked it up, so the commercialization of it doesn't even phase me. I probably should have put this in my top 10 too...

"Purple Stain" is sort of a filler track to me, especially being placed after "Savior" and "This Velvet Glove", two of the best tracks on the record. It is funky though, I'll give 'em that, but usually I'll just skip to "Right On Time".

"Throw Away Your Television" has a bassline that's really fun to play. I probably drove my friends crazy playing this 24/7 when it first came out. It gets a lot of **** as being one of the worst tracks on the album, but I've always thought it was one of the strongest, especially the chorus... don't really understand the lyrics... but it's still great.

"Venice Queen" is another one I forgot about when doing my top 10 but should probably have been #1, 2, or 3 on my list... it's especially great in the studio. I mean, I love their live version of it, and they do it justice, but there are some great studio effects they put on it which you just can't get live, like the wind in the intro.

"Under the Bridge" is like Give It Away in that it's become way too commercial for my tastes. And when I say that, I don't mean that I don't like music which other people like, because I love it when other people get into RHCP, but rather that when a song is parodied as many times as UTB has been, and it's been butchered lyrically as many times as UTB has been, and it's been played a million times on the radio like UTB has, a lot of it's original meaning is lost. Sort of imagine Staind's "It's Been Awhile" ten years from now... that's how I feel about UTB. It used to be my favorite track of theirs though... hands down...

By the way, have you gotten a chance to hear "Rivers of Avalon" or "Quixoticelixer"?

I agree with you there, I love this song.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of my favorite groups and I really like your taste in music as well, Voodoo.

I thought that Stadium Arcadium was really good, especially the first few times I litsened to it, but that was because I was going through RHCP withdrawal (hadn't listened to them in like years). I finally picked up By the Way and Californication and they blew that album out of the water. Personally, Californication is my favourite, I don't really like their really old stuff, but I like it when the music's got a funky vibe to it.

Very interesting to pick his mind, there's a lot of solid opinion up there, the only thing I have to say about your Top 10 guitarists is: NO JIMMY PAGE! Blasphemy!!! LOL! And your guitar riffs list is fantastic [IMG]

While we're asking questions, here's one I've been meaning to ask, what bass(s) do you have, and what ever happened with the whole organ experiment? BTW I'm finally back in a band now too [IMG]

Shut the **** up! Iggy is one of my favorite artists, ever. I wish I lived in Australia for that reason alone, and also because you guys have Big Day Out.

    VC, list of favorite drummers?

Ooh, ooh almost forgot. One of the greatest voices in rock music disses Wolfmother. All hail Patton!

RHCP withdrawl - definitely experienced some of that after By The Way had been out for a while.

I can understand not liking their older stuff too. It's different, nothing like their current sound. It's really hard for me to compare it to their new stuff, because it's like comparing two different bands in two different genres.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Schaddy:</div><div class="quote_post">I so taught VC everything he knows about music [IMG] [IMG]</div>

I came really close to putting Page on there, but I didn't because I wanted to give Francis Rossi some love. He's really ignored when people talk about great 60's/70's rock.

As for my instruments, I have a 5-string Warwick Corvette $$ and a really shitty, old Fender p-bass, which I never whip out unless I've got a friend over playing w/me. The organ experiment has kind of died down for now. I've still got my Hammond B3, but I'm just concentrating more on bass. Every now and then I'll sit down and hammer out a few Doors tunes for the hell of it though. [IMG]

Great news on your band too btw, let me know if you ever get any of your material put online, I'd love to hear it. [IMG]

**** mike patton... the guy's opinion means ****. Even though Mr. Bungle may have been so much more advanced musically than 99% of the bands out there, Patton didn't add **** to it himself... just a name...

The guy is just an ass. He ripped of Kiedis's style back with Faith No More and ever since he got called out on it, he's been on a mission to give them a bad name... just check this tasteless **** out...

Yeah, that's right "The Ghost of Hillel Slovak"... **** him...

Though I'd definitely list Bonham, Portnoy, Carey, Moon, Bruford, and maybe Mike Giles... I'd have to think about who else is out there... Throw some names at me, you're probably more knowledgable about percussionists than me anyway, lol... and yeah, I know I haven't named Peart, but as great as he is, I just can't include him on any list because I really can't stand Rush as a whole...

BTW - How'd you get up on stage AKIRA? That's amazing... the Iguana's gotta be one of the greatest frontmen in punk history...

Oh man it so cool, he was dancing around like he usually does right, and then he tells the band to quieten down or something and he says "You know, sydney are pretty good, and so is queensland and the rest of em but you guys..... you guys are the ****, get up here melbourne, get the **** up, common im not joking" so everyone in the front (all about my age as well) jumped up with him and it was amazing. me, 3 of my friends and Iggy Pop all singing 'I wanna be your dog' at the top of our lungs with our arms around each other, and i was there next to Iggy.

I haven't listened to Stadium Arcadium for awhile, I've been listening to BTW and BSSM, so I went back and listened to SA after this comment. I completely misplaced the song. It would be in my top 10-12.

    Well, here's my list...

    1.) Terry Bozzio
    2.) Bill Bruford
    3.) Danny Carey
    4.) Neil Peart
    5.) Mike Portnoy
    6.) Keith Moon
    7.) John Bohnam
    8.) Dave Lombardo
    9.) Carl Palmer
    10.) Mike Giles

Even though, Peart hasn't done anything noteworthy in 30-some years, he still deserves the spot. I can understand why you don't like him, he tends to rush his drumming very often.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">VC, Sasha - Thoughts on Eddie Van Halen and Santana?</div>
I don't like Eddie. He's too gawdy with his playing. He has no tastefulness to his construction.

As for Santana, I never gave him much nod. I'm not really into the type of music he plays, I never really had an interest into latin music. As much progressive and experimental music I listen to though, he gets a nod for being innovative but just not my forte.

Voodo, you said something about a band similar to the Chilli Peppers? I reccomend Jane's Addiction. I like em a helluva a lot more than RHCP, more unique, more versatility, amazing at changing rythm.

I don't really like Jane's Addiction. Their lead vocals sound pretty crappy to me, I always feel like he isn't going with the melody or beat and screws up the song.
