<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Cavaliers appear close to finalizing their roster for the upcoming season. According to team sources, free-agent guard David Wesley is expected to take a physical in Cleveland today, and if everything checks out, he will likely sign a one-year deal with the Cavs over the weekend. The 13-year veteran can play point guard and shooting guard, giving the Cavs depth behind Eric Snow and Damon Jones. Wesley averaged 9.9 points and 2.9 assists in 71 games with the Houston Rockets last season. Over his career, mostly spent with the Hornets in Charlotte and New Orleans, the 35-year-old Wesley has averaged 12.9 points and shot 37 percent from 3-point range. If the Wesley deal is completed as expected and Drew Gooden officially signs, the Cavs will have 16 players under contract. One player will have to be released before the start of the season and the competition for the final spot will probably come down to Eddie Basden and Stephen Graham, who both have nonguaranteed contracts.</div> Source
It's official. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Press Release - The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard David Wesley to a contract, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. "David adds a wealth of experience and professionalism to our team,” Ferry said. “His defense, shooting and toughness will add to areas that we want to continue to grow this year.” </div> Source
Nice signing, better filling in Flip's spot, then not having it filled at all. His veteranship is gonna bring a lot to the team along with good scoring and passing.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Umair15:</div><div class="quote_post">He will hurt CAvs if he plays the 2. He can't hold Kobe or other 2's.</div> I don't think he'll play the 2 much though. Before Baron became the starting point guard, David was the Hornets' floor leader and did pretty well actually. Before that, he also played 2 relative good seasons in Boston. In those 5 years as the team's main point guard he averaged about 14 ppg and 6.5 apg. I know he's on the decline and all, but the man can play the 1 if he's asked to.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheCh0sen0ne238:</div><div class="quote_post">so let me understand this...they let go of an amazing talent in flip murray for david wesley?</div> Basically they are trading away future talent for veteran leadership and an outside shot.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">Basically they are trading away future talent for veteran leadership and an outside shot.</div> What you call future talent... Flip is already 27 years old, so he has to be on his peak about right now. And what did he accomplish last year? 11.2PPG, 2RPG and 2.6APG. I know he barely played for the Sonics, but he started all but 3 games for Cleveland and was not exactly a game-changer there either. Yes, Flip came up with some big shots, but now that LeBron is finally getting better in the clutch department. So I'd rather have Wesley, who probably doesn't care as much about his numbers, has a better range and who desperately wants to win.
The dude shot 40% the last 2 seasons... why is everyone saying they aqcuired a shooter? Damon Jones shot worse, but about the same % on trey's. I'd rather have Flip.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Phuzer:</div><div class="quote_post">What you call future talent... Flip is already 27 years old, so he has to be on his peak about right now.</div> My bad then. I didn't do the math right. I accidently thought he was 25. Birthday: Jul 29, 1979 I am prone to mistakes as I only check this board before I head out to bed. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Phuzer:</div><div class="quote_post"> And what did he accomplish last year? 11.2PPG, 2RPG and 2.6APG. Better range, and veteran leadership. I like the drop of Flip and aquiring of Wesley.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post"> Thats actually great bench producing but bench players aren't expected to be "game-changers" regardless. </div> He was a starter for the Cavs, and I expect more than 13,3 and 3 from a guy who was hyped as "the new Ray Allen" when he was in Seattle. And playing around LeBron, should have made him a better player. But I didn't see that happen really... I like Flip, I really do, but I just think he's less effective than David Wesley. So I agree with you, I am glad we got rid of him, and that we could sign a veteran like David. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The dude shot 40% the last 2 seasons... why is everyone saying they aqcuired a shooter?
