<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Chris Andersen was given a two-year suspension on January 27th for violating the NBA's substance abuse policy and in his first interview since, he spoke with Marc J. Spears of the Denver Post.

"I tell people I don't drink anymore and they look at me sideways," Andersen said, blaming alcohol as the root cause of his current situation. "Then they'll say, 'Seriously, let me buy you a drink.' And I'll say, 'I don't do that any more.' Some of them don't know what happened to me. But the ones that do, they respect me more for that. A couple people have told me I'm a big inspiration to them."

Declining to say which ones, Andersen said he also experimented twice with hard drugs, just before Christmas a year ago. He was given a random drug test on December 26th and he failed.

Following the suspension, Andersen voluntarily entered an alcohol rehabilitation clinic in Malibu, Calif., that cost $50,000. He completed the 30-day program and said he hasn't touched alcohol or drugs since.</div>Source

Good to hear he's finally getting clean. Never like hearing about people with tough addictions that are hard to boot. I could never imagine how difficult it must be for him, not just to quit something he'd grown so accustomed to using, but to be kicked out of the sport that he loved.

I believe his contract was voided and he wasn't rewarded the rest of his contract when he got a drug suspension. For that matter, I highly doubt he gets signed with any team when his suspension is up. While he may be clean, it'll have been two years since he played at the NBA level. He'll likely be out of shape, unless he's working vigoursously to stay in shape. I just don't see any team having any use for him by the time his suspension is up.

That'd be a pitty though. I really liked the Birdman, he was the only white man who could jump. Also, he gave the Nuggets a lot of support off the bench and was a solid 6th/7th man.

I wouldn't say he gave a lot of support off the bench. He never really gave a lot in terms of points or rebounds (not for the Nugs at least), but he did bring a ton of energy when he was on the court, and was also a good shotblocker.

You must not have watched David Lee [IMG]

I think its a shame if he doesnt make a comeback, he is trying his hardest to kick the habit, he seems to be doing well so far, I'm sure he is still working out and keeping in shape, I'm sure he doesnt want to throw away his dream that easily.
