I read an article today about Brad Johnson possibly seeking a trade to become a starter elsewhere. Now, I am a bit surprised by this - Brad is a decent QB, but I wouldn't want to take him on for more than 1 more year. Even at that, he would have to go to a team that has other strong talents, like a Baltimore or Chicago. Those teams need a game managing QB. I would, ironically enough, be in favor of Johnson being traded if we were able to get either a good prospect or a decently high draft pick (3rd round?). I think the Vikings, although committed to Cpep (and they should remain committed), need to be thinking about the possibility of Cpep never recovering fully. He deserves a chance, but three torn ligaments is not a minor injury. If he shows next year that he doesn't have the skills, then it makes sense to have someone beneath him who is groomed for the starting role. With that said, I don't think this should be their first priority, but if Johnson wants to start, then lets give him that chance and get something in return.
I dont think the Vikings could get anything of importance for him. Brad Johnson is a very old QB, and i dont think a smart coach would try to trade a 3rd rounder on a guy how will retire soon, when he could pick up a good 3rd round QB that will be good in a year or two
Vikings should hang on to Johnson. Culpepper really messed up his stuff with that injury and who knows might not be ready for the opener.. Plus he may not be the same type of player he once was. You hang onto Johnson because he such a valuable backup and I'm sure Johnson will take the role too.
Well, that's not what Johnson is saying - he's saying he wants to be a starter. So I say let him try, if he finds someone, start grooming a QB to backup Cpep.
Trade him to Detroit. They need to cut Garcia and Harringtong, draft a QB and call a "do over" for two years. Millen would be stupid enough to give up a 3rd rounder for him.
That would be cool if he went to Baltimore. Maybe he can be the next Dilfer for the Ravens. And he can trade those ugly purple jerseys for our ugly ones. LOL! And instead of being in the sloppy NFC North, he can go to the scary AFC North.
