I hated the way mike james played ball last year....I thought he had the ball too many times in crunch time(should have been bosh on iso) was selfish, jacked up too many shots, and pretty much lost us as many games as he won. He is also probably not the pg we need to run this new style team....
BUT....and its a big one, he was a good defender, he did avg. alot of assits, and he shot disgustingly well from all over the field.

Did colangelo dismiss mike james too quickly and without enough thought?
Plus, i wasen't a fan of the TJ/Charlie deal, i think the big smooth will turn out to be a much more valuable asset.

ps....i hate mike james

I think maybe as a SG, or a scorer off the bench he could have been good, but as a starting pg, I don't think he ran the offense well enough through other players.

I do have to admit he was a good scorer, and a good 3 point shooter for the Raps.

We are definitely going to miss his 3 pt. shooting (especially with the way our team is built now). However, it was a necessary sacrifice. He didn't fit in with our plans, and keeping him would have been more of a negative than letting him go for nothing.

our team will really miss his pattented "hand in face, deep 3pt shots late in the 4th of close games with 20sec on the clock". im not sure how we'll manage without him [IMG]

i dont think we'll miss him at all. we were a lottery team...how can we do any worse?

Premium we all know that Mike James had problems, like that the offense didn't run smoothly through other players (other than Mike James). Which would have given less good opportunities to Bosh, Bargnani, Graham, Mo Pete, etc.

but he was a good 3pt shooter, which is something that we might not find in Fred Jones, or TJ Ford. So I think we will miss that.

i disagree...we lose a 3pt shooter, but we gain that many more touches for bosh in the post which will open up the floor some more for other players

james took 382 3pt shots last season...if half of those went to bosh when they should have i bet we would have won more games. i dont look at it as just LOSING a 3pt shooter, i look at it as trading for a good descision maker

ill trade ugly 3pt jacks for good looks at the basket any day. losing a 3pt threat isnt necessarily a bad thing. besides...garbarjosa shot the ball from behind the arc really well in the wc's...we might not have lost so much afterall. we'll have to see how the season plays out. either way...like i said, we certainly cant do any worse. with james on the roster shooting 3's we were a lottery team.

You still have to acknowledge how good a shooter Mike James was. He may have taken ridiculous shots a lot (that frustrated me too), but he won us a lot of games with his scoring ability and his shooting definitely stretched the floor for the post players like Bosh. The fact is, that one of our weaknesses this season is going to be 3 pt. shooting and it makes everyone's job harder on offense if you can't make the defense respect the 3 pt. shot. Now obviously we're going to be better with a point guard that actually passes and with Bosh actually getting the ball enough, but there's no doubt that we're going to miss having someone who shot so well.

Mike James' chucking was infuriating, but it worked, to a certain degree.

Someone earlier on in the thread said that Mike James is a good energy guy or 6th man off the bench, and that's probably the role best suited for him.

Even though Mike James would have thrived in the offence Colangelo is planning on running, I think that TJ Ford helps distribute the ball a lot more effectively, which is a lot more important than knocking down threes. I try my best to avoid the Phoenix comparisons, but Phoenix had Kidd and Nash running the point for them, and it worked very well. When Marbury was the starting point guard (and Marbury is the guy you're worrying about putting the ball in the hoop, not dishing it out to his teammates even if it is a great skill of his), they didn't have as much success.

I guess we can use Fred Jones for that now.

yes he certainly was a good shooter and his ability to get to the rim and score during bosh's injury was amazing (even tho toronto went on a ten-game losing streak[IMG]) BUT he was not very good at his passing. jose calderon got more assists then him o.0

at first i thought the villanueva/ford trade was not benefiting the raptors. but now that bosh is back and as healthy as ever and played for USA this year, i see its good b/c the raptors need a good playmaker and i think him and bosh are gon b good together..

i checked toronto's supposed main starting line-up for the year and its:

5- Rasho Nesterovic
4- CB4
3- Mo-Pete
2- Anthony Parker
1- T.J. Ford

now, i've never heard of anthony parker and dont know who he is but i really thought jorge garbajosa was gonna start but they put him as back-up center?[IMG] personally , i would have had a diff line-up

i thank bryan colangelo for tryin to upgrade our roster but as much as we need playmakers and big men and everything WE. NEED. DEFENDERS. the main reason toronto had a 27-win season was cuz of our bad defense. our offense was pretty good and the team ppg was around 104! but as soon it came to the fourth quarter the opponent jus started drivin and gettin fouled etc. and after holding like a 20-point lead for the first three quarters, toronto jus gives up so many buckets that it actually loses. for example kobe's 81-pointgame: in the first half toronto had i think almost a 30-point lead even!!

I haven't seen Parker play at all, where did you get to watch him?

What averages do you expect him to put up?

^^ I'm curious too. I'm expecting around 10-12 ppg? Not really sure, cause I've never seen him play.

i actually vaguely remember him from college, but i was really young back then so i don't remember much. although, i watched him in that pre-season game against the raps and he was easily the best player on the court and also hit the game winner over mo. pete on an isolation play in that same game. moreover, he's a two-time euroleague mvp, so yeah, i have some lofty expectations for him.

There should be some sort of exchange rate in terms of intelligent posts. Because what counts as a quality in the Lakers forum looks pretty ridiculous in here.
