The Bobcats already have 15 players under contract, plus a qualifying offer of about $3 million to restricted free agent Melvin Ely. Please keep Ely. He's been one of our better big men on the team in the past couple years, he does a solid job at both the Center and Power Forward positions.
Ely would be a perfect fit in a NJ. The 'Cats already have a good crop of young big men in Emeka, May and Brezec so Ely can be expendable, though his value to the team sky rockets when Emeka and May go down.
I'd like to see them keep Ely. As P.A.P. said, when Meka and May go down, Ely can step right in and fill in. He's athletic and still pretty young. Given 25-30 MPG, he can easily average 12/6, though I would like to see someone with his height and athletic ability to get more blocks.
