<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Merle Scott, the Miami-based agent for Bonzi Wells, said Wednesday he has spoken to the Heat regarding the free-agent guard. Wells, who turned down a five-year, $36 million offer to return to the Kings earlier this offseason only to have it pulled off the table, recently switched agents and began exploring his remaining limited options. "We've spoken to the Heat, yes," Scott said. "And we will talk again." Wells, who turned 30 Wednesday, averaged 13.6 points last season for Sacramento and then upped that average to 23.2 in the postseason. But after Wells, who earned $8 million last season, took a hard line in his negotiations, the Kings instead turned to 76ers free agent John Salmons, the former University of Miami guard. Wells worked out earlier this week for the Rockets and also has drawn interest from the Bobcats and Nuggets, most likely to accept a one-year deal wherever he lands. The Heat has its $5.2 million mid-level and $1.8 million lower-level salary cap exceptions still available, but coach Pat Riley has said he does not plan to exceed the $65 million payroll threshold that triggers the NBA's dollar-for-dollar luxury tax. The Heat is currently on the cusp of the tax, with 13 players under guaranteed contract. The Kings, with tax concerns of their own, do not appear amenable to a sign-and-trade deal for Wells, the type of move where the Heat could lop off the contract of backup center Michael Doleac or others.</div> Source
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TimmyDMVP:</div><div class="quote_post">Now thats scary! If he joins, Miami will for sure be a contender</div> they arent a contender they are the defending champs. the addition of wells would give them a great low post scorer and a different look off the bench.

I dont think he will come here. Miami is really the lowest out of the the 4 teams. He is most likely to go to Nuggets, Rockets, or Bobcats. Even though Heat would be killers, I would rather have him come to Houston, and you know why.
If Wells comes to the Heat, it's going to be very tough to dethrone them. Their depth would be unreal.
He walked into our office with no real mutual interest and he walked out with higher value and more bargaining power against other teams
Not gonna happen, bargaining tactic by Wells and his agent for leverage. It'll get the bidding war going a bit. Robert Horry's done this a couple of times the past 2 years. Alonzo's done it to us with NJN and the Spurs a couple times. But you know Riley's flirting with the idea. Whatever team signs him is gonna take a nice amount of their capspace. The only team that could afford him right now is the bobcats (I think), $9mil of capspace
The Heat would need a 3rd team to get involved so they can dump Doleac's expiring contract in order to sign Bonzi. Miami still has it's MLE, but Riley isn't going to pay the luxury tax and Miami is at the threshold already.

Draft picks: The heat should be around 25-30 in the draft by their record, not much value. Key Players: Maybe Walker or Posey but I don't know if the Kings would be interested in those players. Young talent: G-F Wright or F-Simien would make interesting prospects, but the Heat would wait to see how they do with consistant minues before they write them off. Plus it would be a lot cheaper and less risk to invest in them than it would to be on Bonzi, who would want a big contract. Riley's good but I don't know if the teams involved might benefit from it, if at all.
